Lyrics for I Never Told You What I Do For a Living as interpreted by adrianelee

I Never Told You What I Do For a Living Lyrics
Stay out of the light.
All the photographs that I gave you
you could say a prayer for me too.
But just get in line and I'll grieve you
Can i meet you, alone?
Another night and ill see you.
Another night and ill be you.
Some other way to continue.

To hide my face.

Another knife in my hands,
a stain that never comes off the sheets
Clean me off
I'm so dirty babe,
the kind of dirty where the water never cleans off the clothes.
I keep a book of the names and those
only goes so far to bury them
So deep and down we go

Touched by angels so I fall out of grace
I did it all so maybe I'd live this every day

Another knife in my hands,
a stain that never comes off the sheets
Clean me off
I'm so dirty babe
It ain't the money and it sure as hell ain't just for the fame.
It's for the bodies I claim and lose
Only goes so far to bury them
So deep and down we go
Down

And down we go
And down we go
And down we go
And we all fall down

[screaming]
I tried!
I tried!

And we'll all dance alone to the tune of your death.
We'll love again, we'll laugh again
and it's better off this way.

And never again, and never again
They gave us two shots to the back of the head
and we're all dead now.

Well never again, and never again
They gave us two shots to the back of the head
and we're all dead now.

I tried, one more night, one more night
Well, I'm laughin', cryin', laughin' out loud
I tried,
Well i tried,
Well i tried,

'Cause i tried
but i lied

I tried
I tried
I tried

And we'll love again and we'll laugh again
We'll try again and we'll dance again
and it's better off this way.
So much better off this way.
I can't clean the blood off the sheets in my bed

Never again, and never again
They gave us two shots to the back of the head
and we're all dead now.

Not a big fan of this song, I think it's a bad way to end the album...

It really has to grow on you. It took me a few full listens of the album to see how well this song fits. Sure, it's no Demolition Lovers, but that's arguably their best song.

This song is fucking amazing. At first listen I think it's about murder, but then I think it's about losing someone. Not sure.
And we'll love again and laugh again - I really love this song.

It's a great end of the album...but it's supposed to be a concept album...they should've had a song where he's killed the thousandth guy and gets his bitch back = \

The song's about the fact that his entire life revolves around murder. He's killed and will continue to kill.

If you didn't know, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge is like..a sequel to the first album in ways...It's like Demolition Lovers pt.2.

Satan told Gerard to bring to him the corpses of 1000 evil men to get his wife or whatever back...so the album is about him going around and killing the thousand men.

Drowning Lessons makes reference to the new album, despite the fact that it came out before that....he keeps a corpse of a woman he loves in a well and "A thousand bodies piled up, I never thought would be enough" is making a reference to those thousand corpses to get her back.

And the lyrics on this page are horribly incorrect.

The whole "Love again" and "laugh again" thing is talking about when he finally gets his wife back.

Hell...maybe the end is actually about somebody killing him before he could kill all the guys "They gave us two shots to the back of the head and we're all dead now" and he talks about how he tried and shit....So yeah..different view on some of the song now but still the basic concept.

In the end, he gets killed, or kills himself....seeing as he's a murderer and therefore evil...anyway he's reunited with his wife person in Hell.

The End
Kthx

In Rolling Stone, they mentioned that the guy goes to hell and his love isn't there, so he has this deal with the devil to get her back. I don't think he gets killed -- he's already died once.

I love this song. It's the first MCR song I ever heard when it came free on the Rock Sound CD for October (?) 2004. I then went out and bought the new album, then their first album. I think it's a fab way to end the album. The album should never have ended *sniffles* but it was a good way to end it 'coz it leaves you wanting more.

This is a great song.. I think it ties in with the story about the man and satan and all that jazz. It's about the guy killing all of the people that he had to but I'm still trying to figure out how it's supposed to end.

"and we're all dead now" <-- this line makes me think that maybe after he killed all 1000 people he found his girlfriend but she ended up being in hell with him? I'm not sure if someone was supposed to have killed her or the devil just played a trick on the guy and ended up having both of them dead. -shrugs- Just an idea.

well wasn't the whole point that they were bonnie and clyde type characters so they were destined for hell anyway, but when she wasn't there, the dude had to kill the 1000 men. when he did they're "all dead noe" as in before she was in a place between life and death. and he had to kill the thousand men to get her back. even though he was bringing her to hell. i bet when she got there the devil had a bit of her anyway, south park satan style.

I love this song. The chorus is powerful. Well, here's my interpretation.
- "Another knife in my hands,
a stain that never comes off the sheets
Clean me off
I'm so dirty babe
It ain't the money and it sure as hell ain't just for the fame.
It's for the bodies I claim and those"
I would say that he's saying that he isnt just killing for the hell of it. He has a reason. ANd by saying "a stain that never comes off the sheets," I think he's saying that what he's doing is going to leave a mark in him, and on him forever. Forgive me if im wrong.

Not to be rude but you guys need to stop criticsing the lyrics on this page. Don't nit pick over every little thing. But my view of this song was that it didn't really have to do with the concept directly. It seemed more of a seperate storyline to me. About a man who goes around and murders select victims. With the lines "Another night and I'll see you/One other night and I'll be you/Some other way to continue to hide my face". To me it seemed to about his man's struggle to continue hiding and killing people and then living their lives for a short while. And in the man's opinion he's doing them a favor in a way and feels that "It's better off this way...And we'll love again and we'll laugh again/We'll try again and we'll dance again/and it's better off this way/So much better off this way". I'm guessing the victims he's choosing lead lives without anyone close to them so he's taking their lives and doing what he can in the short amount of time to make 'their' lives better. And in the end of the song when he is shot and he says "WE'RE all dead now" he's referring to the fact that all of the people he has killed are all really, truely dying at that moment. When he himself is killed all the people whose lives he has taken over are ending. This is just my opinion but it is something I have stuck by since my first time hearing the song. I think this is a great way to end the album and I always enjoyed it. Plus you get to hear Mister Gerard Way say "I'm so dirty babe" so the song should get it's brownie points for that alone. But it's a superbly written song and is incredibly catchy. Great way to end the album. It would be assume if that could be a future single and they'd make a video for it. Hint hint MCR. ;)

Ok, I didn't know about any storyline and I don't listen to all the lyrics so here what my interpretation was. I thought it was about a guy who's a paided assassin but he didn't tell his gf or wife (whatever). Then she finds out when she finds some blood stains. She gets drawn into it and then a crime sydicate or family (whatever) that he has disrupted by killing some of them kills them in an alley with two shots to the back of the head. Hope that dosn't sound too stupid.

i love this song. the funny thing about it tho was the first couple of times i heard the cd i loved the songs in the beginning but didn't particularly go for the songs on the end. this turns out to be one of my favorites probably cuz of the lines "clean me off. i'm so dirty babe. the kinda dirty where the water never cleans off the clothes." <-- best line EVER! and i like the ending where is slows down and says "and were all dead now." its a great way to end the cd and the line gives you somewhat of closure. well atleast to me it does. oh yeah and i agree with whoever up there said it was about how he just keeps on killing and killing and killing. kick ass song. whoo

this song definately is about the whole 1000 thousand bodies thing. gerard is very twisted and i love it! i still don't get the line 'another night and i'll be you'. because how could he kill someone and lead their life. i mean i get that he changes his life often so that he doesn't get caught. but wouldnn't he get caught quicker if he went around posing as a dead person? also, did he get killed in the end? if so he'll have nothing to say on the next cd. b/c he 'they gave US two shots to the back of the head and WE are ALL dead now'. so it sounds like he was killed.
