Lyrics for The Ghost of You as interpreted by Mike NJSS

The Ghost of You Lyrics
I never, said I'd lie and wait forever
If I did we'd be together now
I can't always just forget her
But she could try

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I?
Should I?
And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever ever...

Ever...
Get the feeling that you're never
All alone and I remember now
At the top of my lungs in my arms she dies
She dies

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I?
Should I?
And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I?
Should I?
And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me
For all the ghosts that are never gonna catch me

If I fall...
If I fall...
Down
Wooooooooaaaaaahhhhh

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Never coming home
Never coming home

And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I....
Should I?
And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me
For all the ghosts that are never gonna.....

I could see how this song could go along with the video; The whole plot about mikey and the girl he met at the USO show.

I personally think that it's more about the concept behind the album,I think that the guy might be second guessing himself;wondering if he can accomplish this HUGE task of bringing satan 1000 corpses of evil men.

The opening line where he says" I never said I'd lie in wait forever",I think that means that he never agreed to spend eternity in in this state of purgatory that he's in while he tries to achieve his goal. He's at the point of wondering if He even could finish this task and if he could should he ? I think he could also be realizing that he made a deal with the devil and even if he does finish ,who's to say that the devil would keep up his end of the bargin? Thats just what i think right now...Lol ...I have SO many theories on this song but i'll post that later.

i think the song is about someone who went to war and while he is fighting he finds out that his girlfriend who he really loves left him because she couldnt handle being alone and no matter how hard he tries to get her back it just didnt work

I don't think this song is about war, sure the song fits the video, but I think Gerard made the video to surprise people. He said himself that everyone thought the video would be about ghost, so he wanted to do something different. He also said that MCR wrote the song about the fear of never coming home or something like that. But anyway its my favorite song and video and yes I cried too.

Thank you MCCTRB. This song is NOT about war. Isn't that too obvious? You simple minded people need to get it through your thick freaking head that this song is not about war.

Am I the only person that cries when they hear this song?

I DO!!!
It's the fact that a perfectly good band just sold out which brings so many tears to my eyes.

Gerard is remembering the death of his grandmother Elena Lee Rush and the death of someone else, Maria Jose Santos(who might have been girlfriend or his sister). At the bottom of the lyrics on the album it says, "This record is dedicated to the memory of Elena Lee Rush and Maria Jose Santos". The songs Helena and The Ghost of You are songs remembering them. That is why they have so much emotion in them.

When Gerard sings "At the top of my lungs in my arms she dies She dies", he is probably remembering either screaming or sobbing as one of his loved ones died in his arms.

When the song talks about "Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I? Should I?
Gerard is probably asking his dead loved one if he COULD have done anything to keep his loved one from dying. He is also asking if he SHOULD have tried to save them.

This is my interpretations that I derived mostly from the script at the bottom of mcr's lyrics. It just seemed that this was the logical meaning of this awesome song. If anyone else wants to elaborate on my philosophies, write your mind out.

I'm actually not a fan of Chemical Romance at all, and this is the only song that I can stand to listen to by them, however, despite my indifference towards the lyrics (which I find rather simplistic and poorly chosen) I have to say, the video for this song is extremely well done. If you haven't seen it, you should attempt to find it, either at launch.com or some similiar site.

I believe this song is about him loosing his lover by death, and him dealing with the emotions that come with that, in particular having difficulty moving on and feeling that he would be betraying her by doing so - 'I never said i'd lie in wait forever, if i died we'd be together'
Also living in fear that her ghost would haunt him if he found someone else, and so he questions - 'could I? should I?'

the songs quite simple.. its about not having someone back.. it doesnt have to be about DEATH! geez.. if you read the lyrics carefully, theres a sense of irony in the stanzas. the video is superb though.. she dies! she dies! hehehe

the video for this is totally awesome and it was a bit unexpected how they used the war theme. I do agree with herbit that it doesn't have to be about death... the line "She Dies..." could be symbolism, but death is what stands out in my mind because of the video lol

what exactly is wrong with B12, I have to wonder, if this song was from the older album, would you still say it was awful? Just because more people have heard it doesn't make it any worse. i hate people like that, think they're better just because they've heard about something longer makes them think they're better. I also hate the people who don't know that there's another album besides Three Cheers, and those who are only like " OMG!!!!!!!!! GeRaLD WaY is so HOTT!!!"
I hate that,
hate it, hate it, hate it.
So I'm not siding with that kind of person just because I'm opposing the older fans who think they're greater than everyone else because of that.
