I never said I'd lie and wait forever
If I died we'd be together
I can't always just forget her
But she could try

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I
Should I

And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever ever
Ever

Get the feeling that you're never
All alone and I remember now
At the top of my lungs in my arms she dies
She dies

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I
Should I

And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I
Should I

And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me
For all the ghosts that are never gonna catch me

If I fall
If I fall (down)

Woah, woah
Woah, woah
Woah, woah

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Never coming home
Never coming home

And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I
Should I
And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me
For all the ghosts that are never gonna

My Interpretation:Pretty obvious meaning, if you ask me. Of course, everyone has their own interpretations. There is no "true" meaning to a song. What ever it means to you IS the true meaning. (:

"I never said I'd lie and wait forever
If I died, we'd be together
I can't always just forget her, but she could try"
    - He's not going to wait, knowing they can't be together now, so he's thinking of suicide to possibly be with her, and stop all the pain that the ghost of her, or memories, are causing. He can't just forget about it all, and her. It's not that easy. But maybe she could at least try now.

"At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are never coming home, never coming home
    Could I?
    Should I?"
    - He knows he's not getting her back, so it might as well be the end of the world to him.. And this might be him questioning suicide again. Just more expressively. & It sounds to me like he's asking "Could I be with her if I did?" and then "Should I do it?" If that is the case.

"And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever ever"
    - It hurts to think of the things that could have possibly been. Maybe they never had a chance to say/do/be what they wanted with eachother, or at least not to him.

    "Ever..
get the feeling that you're never all alone?
    And I remember now
At the top of my lungs, in my arms she dies.. she dies!"
    - Although she is gone, maybe he still has some kind of connection with her.. The ghost of her(memories), as I'm guessing the song suggests, or his love for her. But it's still very painful to be reminded of, or remembering. I think it's expressing how much with "At the top of my lungs, in my arms she dies".

"And all the wounds that are ever gonna' scar me
For all the ghosts that are never gonna' catch me"
    If I fall..
    If I fall.. (Down)"
    - He has been, and will continue to be hurt by it for a while. He's scarred. Either way, he will try his best to go on though. But he's still not sure if he will be able to.

General Comment:She dies and dies in his arms... It hurts him to know that shes not coming back to him, it hurts him to remember her dying, it hurts him that he can't be with her anymore

General Comment:Its about someone he loved greatly, but now she doesnt. He still loves her but knows he needs to get over her, and he wants her to love him before he has too. So thats the scenario, but the theme is what would happen, who would she feel, if he were to get over her today, metaphoricaly dying, as the video suggest with all its WWII scenes.

    Case in point:

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
(Its the end of the world, or at lest seems like it to him)
    You are
    Never coming home
    Never coming home
(Never coming home to him, she will never love him)
    Could I?
    Should I?
(Could he, should he try to continue to love her, in the hopes she will, or is it time to get over her?)
And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me
(If he decided to get over her today, again metaphoricly dying, what would happen to the memories that were, and those that may have been.)
    Never coming home
    Never coming home
    Could I?
    Should I?
And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me
For all the ghosts that are never gonna catch me
(Again with the metaphor, all the scars of a lost love and all the memories that he will try to get over)

Well other than that this is just a plain freaking amazing song, great course, and an excellently paired video. Its amazing that considering this is a music video, the entire thing is just as good as, if not better than, some of the best WWII movies made. So yeah, awesome sauce...

General Comment:The song is unrelated to the music video, and that is where people are getting their interpretations messed up. If it were about the video, then mikey would be a girl("she" in the lyrics). It is about a guy whose girlfriend dies, and he is sitting around waiting to die too because, to him, there is nothing else worth living for. He is haunted (ever get the feeling that your never all alone) by her smiles and the relationship that they would have had (all the things that you never ever told me). When he is alone he thinks back to the day she died in his arms. he knows that he will only be with her again in the afterlife (at the end of the world or the last thing I see...you are never coming home). Could I? Should I? refers to whether he has the courage or will to go through with suicide "to see her again."

pretty simple lyrics to interpret but most of the people on this site probably failed english lit.

My Interpretation:These are powerful lyrics, but I'm pretty sure this is about war (watch music video) - the thoughts of leaving loved ones behind and thinking you're never coming home. She dies in his arms, to me I see as meaning- his world and her image is dead in his mind, dies with him. ("at the end of the world, or the last thing i see")- Its the pain of a young soldier whose world seems to have ended with him or entered another deadly realm while his girl, the life at home is as far as can be and he knows her world is still going, moving, happy(maybe), normal, spinning, optional. Even if he goes back he will never be truly home. it's the effect of war. He wont ever connect with it again. thus, "Never coming home". Also she is able to forget him if she needs to ("she could try") but his pain is so deep (his life was forcibly taken from him literally or not) the "ghost" will always haunt him. "Could I? Should I?" perhaps is meaning he is debating whether or not he can even pick up where he had left off or if he even should. so i think that's all I can really take from it.

My Opinion:He can't have the girl he wants when he did, and she can try to forget him even though she thinks she likes him now.

Home is sort of like "him". He's "home". He's still wondering about his choices though. They never really met, they've never talked. He used to smile to let her know he loved her, and now he's thinking about it really not sure what to think about it. (the ellipsis)

He still knows that it can't happen and she "dies" from his feelings, emotions and memory.

This is just me though. I LOVE how their songs are thought-provoking and open to interpretation. :) This is such a deep song...

General Comment:The video shows troops at Normandy. He never really says that he girl he is talking about is his girl. The idea that he saw a friend die in the war seems the most likely. And when he talks about the girl "she dies, she dies" could be referring to her reaction at hearing about her lover's death. If so, then the lyrics are a lot cooler. I'm sick of love songs.

My Interpretation:my interpretation, most closely touched on by 'lost all chance' is not that someone has already died. i feel like this song is about the risk of love. its about the fear of loss. im sure everyone has been in that situation where you start to realize just how intensely you feel about someone and the thought of it not working dawns on you. its a grimly romantic way to weigh the options...is loving her worth all the haunting it will cause him if he loses her? i feel like the song implies that she is alive and all the lyrics about what he has lost is a jolt into his future that he could experience.

"i cant always just forget her, but she could try"
    "if i fall"
    "could i, should i?"

death taken on a much less literal level could mean death in faith, death in love, a broken heart.
