Lyrics for The Ghost of You as interpreted by Mike NJSS

The Ghost of You Lyrics
I never, said I'd lie and wait forever
If I did we'd be together now
I can't always just forget her
But she could try

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I?
Should I?
And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever ever...

Ever...
Get the feeling that you're never
All alone and I remember now
At the top of my lungs in my arms she dies
She dies

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I?
Should I?
And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I?
Should I?
And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me
For all the ghosts that are never gonna catch me

If I fall...
If I fall...
Down
Wooooooooaaaaaahhhhh

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Never coming home
Never coming home

And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I....
Should I?
And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me
For all the ghosts that are never gonna.....

I hate Music Videos.

They piss me off! -.-'

Especially when they don't agree with the song.
Well, They agree... but they don't? You know what I mean? Naw, How could you... I don't understand myself.

This song is great.

I hate the video.

-.-'

Wow, really?I think this video is fucking amazing. It goes along with the whole concept of losing somebody...but I guess I can see how it would contradict how it seems they're talking about a relationship with a girl or something.

Going along with the concept album...this song seems like he's lamenting about the 1000 people he has to kill, and coming to terms with how it's practically impossiblie to achieve. He keeps asking himeself "could I" do this "should I" do this (in relation to killing 1000 people)

It also seems like he's realizing that no matter how many people he kills, his love is never going to be reunited with him. "you are never coming home never coming home"

Something else I noticed "at the top of my lungs in my arms she dies"...perhaps he is having a flashback to the day the two of them died...she was killed first and died in his arms?

I think the main point of this song is bitter realization and disappointment. He begins to understand he'll never be with his love, he also begins to reminisce about her. He knows he will never be able to push her out of his mind.

this song doesn't meaning anything about a girl the video shows the band that they are in war and if they die they are never coming home and that they will be ghosts only

Its about the girl and guy who met before he shipped off and they never got to tell each other how they felt about each other or if they'll ever get the chance to find out. He goes to war knowing that he might not come back and the thought of her. She either gets to forget him and fall for someone else or stay committed to him in hope he makes it home alive. A horriby meaningful song for many people today.

song is sung pretty well.

lyrics are too transparent.

its annoying when you enjoy a song due to such superficial factors eventhough you know that the actually meaning behind the song is so apparent.

I pay a lot of attention to songs that bug me AKA this song. According to everyone else who has posted, there are many adaptations to this song. Whether it be about Gerard's grandmother, losing a loved one, and all that stuff.

The music video does fit with the song in ways, but in other ways the lyrics break off and warp it to something else.

Kind of like when Gerard is sing "if I fall, if I fall" and it's showing Mikey looking at his wife/girlfriend. Then it cuts to the scene of the war where Mikey gets killed. He indeed fell, and it's basically amplifying the fact that this song could be about losing someone.

It's weird, though, how it's talking about HER dying. I'm sure Mikey isn't a girl, seeing in the music video it's talking about the bond of Mikey and his wife/girlfriend.

I guess he's singing from Mikey's point of view, in the music video. I'm not completely sure, for I didn't write this song; it's all opinionated.

Anyways, when I saw the music video I kind of cried. The song makes me sad.

hey im new here :D

has anyone heard "Ghost of You edited version?

It is SO COOL it features screaming by gerard and in the moaning part he does the 'im-having-an-orgasm' thing he does when he sings it live! Also, the guitars sound more powerful!

I agree w/adict on how songs like these annoy the crap outa you until u figure out some sort of meaning behind them.

To me it seems - and maybe its the video talking (one of the best done I've ever seen) is about how his (the guy in the glasses) GIRLFRIEND committed suicide "if i died we'd be together i can't always just forget her but she could try" whenever I hear a line talking about how person "doesn't try" suicide filters into my mind - personal reasons.

Meanwhile his bestfriend (the singer) is watching all this - seeing his friend struggle (maybe blaming himself that his girlfriend died?) to just keep going and using the war as a metaphor for just how hard it was to keep going and yet at the same time how easy it would to kill oneself

Until finally "at the end of the world or the last thing i see you are never coming home, never coming home" and hoping that now they might be reunited

So I think its the best friend telling the story bc well for one reason he's the singer, doesn't die, in the bar u don't see the guy in the glasses, and in the end u see how his friend's death (suicide?) makes him feel

and lastly i think this is so bc in the end the best is the only left around (wheres the chick grieving over her boyfriend's death?) and that is also why I think the boyfriend did commit suicide bc he dies

so in a way its like romeo and juliet and trying to justify that if you loved someone so much that suicide isn't really that crazy?

Complicated theory w/lots of leaky holes but at least this way it hits all the bases (or so i hope)

I really think there are a lot of meanings to this song, but I came up with a theory thats a bit different from everyone elses. Note that I'm not always right but this is just what I assume. :)

From a bunch of magazine articles that I've read, the song itself is about War, and not just about grieving for the loss of someone. I think its told in many POVs, Gerards, and perhaps someone elses. Gerard is off fighting in a war, and someone close to him (mother/girlfriend/sister/etc) has a broken heart and thinks the worst (that he's dead or something). They think hes never coming home, and they have memories of him, and eventually resort to suicide because they become so depressed. And how he talks about missing a girl, and how she dies, perhaps, he finds out that shes dead and gets angry that theres so much she never told him. And maybe hes thinking about suicide himself (Could I? Should I?)

I dunno, my theory is really dumb, but you know that the band wouldn't have OKed a music video about war when the song has nothing to do with it (all their music videos thus far have been close to their lyrics)

How could you even compare D-Day to the Iraq war?! More people died on D-Day than both of the Iraqi wars combined. Stupid bitch.

this song sucks. I think if MCR make another song like this i will kill them. It has nothing going for it. and mcr can make good slow songs "demolition lovers, Drowning lessons" this is just pathetic

This song is so moving, so powerful. It is just...amazing. I love it so much. It holds special meaning to me because my uncle is at war right now, no thanks to the Idiot Bush, and there's not a night that I don't spend at least ten minutes of my time worrying that he won't be coming home and that I'll never see him again. Every time I hear this song, it brings me to tears. It's just so meaningful to me.

possibly my favorite song from 2005. certainly my favoite song on this cd. It really grew on me. Obviously the video is what the song is about. (war and the effect on people and relationships.) I think knowing that for sure only makes the song better. (with no questioning) the people who want it to mean something else... thats cool you can do that with any song. certainly war in general is a metaphore for relationships. Personally I wouldnt change a thing. there are tons of wonderful songs about "normal" relationships.

I like this really powerful song about war and the friendships and love, and the would have, could haves that revolve around it.

It really stays with you.
