Lyrics for The Ghost of You as interpreted by Mike NJSS

The Ghost of You Lyrics
I never, said I'd lie and wait forever
If I did we'd be together now
I can't always just forget her
But she could try

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I?
Should I?
And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever ever...

Ever...
Get the feeling that you're never
All alone and I remember now
At the top of my lungs in my arms she dies
She dies

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I?
Should I?
And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I?
Should I?
And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me
For all the ghosts that are never gonna catch me

If I fall...
If I fall...
Down
Wooooooooaaaaaahhhhh

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Never coming home
Never coming home

And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I....
Should I?
And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me
For all the ghosts that are never gonna.....

To me, this song is about a soldier in combat, but from two different perspectives. It seems as if the verses are from the soldier, thinking about his girl back at home, and he knows he may not ever be with her again. The choruses are from his girl, and she's dreading and thinking about how she may never see him again ("you are never coming home"). You can see this a bit in the music video also. Gerard did a really great job with putting himself in the place of these people living through every day with dread and uncertainty.

This song means a lot to me, because I have/had many many many combat veterans in my family, fighting in wars like WWII and Vietnam and Korea, and some of them never made it home.

**To all the POWs, MIAs, fallen heros, and alive veterans.**

and to the rest of you... if you really love this song and message, don't go shopping on veterans and memorial day.

I honestly love this song. It really makes me consider the feelings of those who have lost a loved one more. It really can hit home, and it's one of their slower and emotional songs.

Though this song is about a loved one(be it relative or girlfriend) dying, I think the song is more about the guy.

The line "if I died we'd be together" is obviously him thinking about suicide to be with this loved one.

The line "could I? Should I?" makes me think he is questioning himself. Could he do that to himself? Should he do it to himself?

Overall I think the song is mainly about the man thinking about suicide to be with this loved one and questioning himself on if he should do it or not.

Great song, but really sad when you think about it...

I think that the song is about a guy who is in love with a girl. The girl breaks up with him, but he can't give up on her and still believe that they will be able to get back together. Then she dies and he only now thinks that they are truely through. He holds on to every memory we has of her even the bad ones and though he misses her behonde all belief he begins to blame her for the time he spent longing for her before her death.

ok so obviously a song can be interpreted many freakin ways unless otherwise specified by the producer or the writer or anything of the such
In my opinion its a War song about how he is at war and starts to die during the song and its just about how she misses him and how she will never see him cuz he won't ever come home.

for those of you who have seen the music video for this song will know what I mean

The draft, war, and leaving the loved ones at home.
The pain of not seeing them again, the harsher reality to be the one to tell their family that your father/brother/husband is now dead.

Frankly, I'm not really fond of punk rock, but I saw the video for this song several years ago, and decided just now to look it up. The only problem with the video (assuming they are covering Omaha and not Utah) is the fact that only 1 guy gets shot (that I saw). In reality, they dropped like flies. Still, it is a pretty good video, and a decent song.

"You are
Never coming home
Never coming home"

It reminds me of a part from Stephen Crane's "The Red Badge of Courage" when henry is handed a package by another soldier who thinks he is going to die in battle to give to his family.

Im just brain storming here
When he says "at the top of my lungs, in my arms
she dies"
Well if she is at the top of his lungs maybe she dies while they are kissing? well just a thought or its simple and hes screaming

It sounds corny, but this song reminds me of a time when I was going away on holiday for a while and my boyfriend and I sat in the car the day before I went away and listened to this song in silence. I just remember the rain on the window and the tears falling. We aren't together anymore but it always makes me sad as I remember that day.

I think its about someone leaving, not necessarily dying, but going away, and it feeling (whether true or not) as if they'll never come back.

This song is about someone never coming home, never coming home, never coming home.
This song is about a baby sheep's ghost (or a ewe), and it never comes come, never comes home.

It's possible the song IS about losing someone and that the war music video DOES have something to do with it.
Maybe his significant other is dead and he's contemplating getting killed in the line of battle on purpose for the chance of seeing her again and not having to wait. Hence the "if I fall down." May have to do with dying in battle and that his pain won't matter if he's not alive.

so basicly i suck at this song meaning thing but this is what i get out of it

war.
brothers at war.
youngest brother has a wife/girlfriend/whatever
as he leaves for war he sees her die INSIDE..not literally. "SHE DIES...SHE DIES..."
little brother gets shot in war,
and dies...
and hes never coming home?

idk, i love my chem, and i absolutely adore gerards words, but he confuses the hell out of me sometimes :)

I think that this song to me means that the guy has gone to war and didnt come back because he died. I mean have you seen the video for this song? It's very sad, but the way it's done makes it seem like the guy died.
