Lyrics for The Ghost of You as interpreted by Mike NJSS

The Ghost of You Lyrics
I never, said I'd lie and wait forever
If I did we'd be together now
I can't always just forget her
But she could try

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I?
Should I?
And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever ever...

Ever...
Get the feeling that you're never
All alone and I remember now
At the top of my lungs in my arms she dies
She dies

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I?
Should I?
And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I?
Should I?
And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me
For all the ghosts that are never gonna catch me

If I fall...
If I fall...
Down
Wooooooooaaaaaahhhhh

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Never coming home
Never coming home

And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I....
Should I?
And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me
For all the ghosts that are never gonna.....

I can't believe no one has commented on this song. Very powerful lyrics. Very powerful song. Very powerful CD. I think this song is just about a guy that can never have again a girl he once had. I think she died? His references to her never coming home, i took that as her never coming back to him. Who knows though. Great song.

I will agree this is probably the song with the most depth on the cd. Or atleast the way I take it.

this song screams of all his insecurity for k. It seems that he feels that he could never go on without her, but he worries that she doesn't feel the same. just a great sojg

amazing fucking lyrics. just one thing I noticed that I think is wrong

"and all the smiles that are ever gonna hug me", I think that should read "and all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me"

This song to me is about a person loosing a love one not only a girlfriend but a mother or sister. It's a very emotional song that makes me think about all the people someone loves and fears loosing.

i think it's about how he loses someone who dies and she was an atheist, so he'll never see her in heaven

to me it's about some girl (girlfriend?friend? don't know) that suddenly dies. he knows he will be in this world for such a long time that he will miss her too much, and writes this song. i don't believe he means he will never see her again, like in heaven, but i do believe the "never coming home" part is exactly about that she died, she is never, ever coming back home, and he will miss her because he loves her so much (as a friend, as a girlfriend, as a mother, whatever). it's very simple to me. anyway, i think this is the best song on the CD. definitely.

and all the smiles and all the love she left behind will haunt him forever... he will have these beautiful things of her stuck in his mind and in his heart and that's the unbearable part.

There's been quite a few songs about being haunted as of late. And I think that's what this is about. People always like to think to be haunted means there is an actual physical manifestation of a ghost around to do so.

But in reality, there is so many other subtle ways. To lose a lover is to lose that connection you have with them. Or is it? Where does all that energy go?

To have someone in your head, or always the emotion in your heart of someone, is just so painful. And the ghost exists within you.

"at the end of the world
or the last thing i see"

I have been seeing a lot of artists writing the "end of the world" in their lyrics as of late. Perhaps this has to do with the "end of the world" feeling? That feeling where someone dramatic happens in your life and you just float around feeling like everything is just going to fall a part.

Very good and sad song.

This song was dedicated to my sister and I in ST Louis.
Therefore, it's Aryka and Jeni's song.
Ask Gerard. He'll tell you. :)

ya know...i had a experience not too long ago that totally made me think different about this song..i was dating a girl for awhile and she broke it off with me..and i love this girl soo much..it hurt..well i continued to love her for a long time and tried alot to get back with her until finally one day i realized that all she did was treat me like shit and i deserved so much more...well one day she came to me and wanted me back..but at that moment she almost seemed dead to me..like i didnt want anything to do with here..so this experience made me think..maybe he had a relationship like mine..just bear with me and think outside the box for a moment...

i never said i'd lie in wait forever
(he got tired of wating for her to love him again)
if i died we'd be together
(she is dead to him now..and hes using death as a metaphor saying if he died then they would both be dead)
i can't always just forget her
(it was hard getting over her)
but she could try
(now he thinks she should try getting over him)

at the end of the world
or the last thing i see
(she is the last thing he sees now)
you are never coming home, never coming home
could i? should i?
(saying he wont get back with her..but does contemplate it "could i? should i")

and all the things that you never ever told me
and all the smiles that are ever, ever, ever
(maybe about all the lies...and now he knows and he wont be haunted by her smiles anymore)
get the feeling that you're never
all alone
(implying the cheating she did with other men)
and i remember now
at the top of my lungs, in my arms
she dies, she dies
(she finally told him about the lies and now she is def. dead to him)

the rest of the song is pretty much the same...i could easily be wrong..but please give it a look and think about it...i love MCR and they show so much depth on this album and i see a huge future for these guys..thanks for listening

Me and my friend just think that its about someone dying, not necessarily a GF. But, I mean, it would make sense. Lots of songs are about chicks.

Well if you do own the cd, at the bottom of the booklet with all the lyrics, it says RIP to i think his mother and sister, I dont remember at the moment, so I believe the song is about either of them. But I do love the hell out of that song

lost_all_chance, I like your view. And it could definitely fit with that.

So maybe most of us can agree that the ghost represents the emotions that are left behind of that person lost, whether in death or life (like a break-up).

I don't know if this has happened to you guys but I've had experiences where I broke up with a girl I loved so much that I coudln't be around anything that she related to. For example if she liked MCR, I couldn't listen to them because it would hurt too much. Or I couldn't go to the library if she was a librarian.

I thought I was the only one messed up like that, linking emotions to places and objects, but my friend just recently broke up with his girl and he says she ruined HIP HOP for him! That and he has problems driving by where she used to live.

such a powerful song.
there is thousands of things this song could but we'll never work out exactly what gerard wants it to mean.

i write alot of songs and i find when people read them the song meaning is different to them. the song means what ever u feel it means.people who dont like songs generally dont like it coz the meaning to them isnt what they want to remember or feel so they push it away and write bad stuff about it til they feel better.

i love this song, gerard you really know how to write a great song babe...keep it up gorgeous, i love u and im there for u through think and thin and that goes for the rest of mcr....luv ya babes!

so this song is definately about loss. that much is for certain. to me it's the death of a loved one. actually when i first heard it i thought this was the song about his grandmothers death and not "helena." Since helena is about his grandmother maybe this one is also. I mean it coud also be about relationships and loss in that sense. w/e floats your boat man.
