Soon I will be here no more
You'll hear my tale
Through my blood
Through my people
And the eagle's cry
The bear within will never lay to rest

Wandering on Horizon Road
Following the trail of tears

White man came
Saw the blessed land
We cared, you took
You fought, we lost
Not the war but an unfair fight
Sceneries painted beautiful in blood

Wandering on Horizon Road
Following the trail of tears
Once we were here
Where we have lived since the world began
Since time itself gave us this land

Our souls will join again the wild
Our home in peace 'n war 'n death

Wandering on Horizon Road...

" I still dream every night
Of them wolves, them mustangs, those endless prairies
The restless winds over mountaintops
The unspoilt frontier of my kith n'kin
The hallowed land of the Great Spirit
I still believe
In every night
In every day
I am like the caribou
And you like the wolves that make me stronger
We never owed you anything
Our only debt is one life for our Mother
It was a good day to chant this song
For Her

Our spirit was here long before you
Long before us
And long will it be after your pride brings you to your end "

General Comment:I'm part Cherokee, and when i heard this i thought about my great- great- great- father about how he survived the Trail of Tears. He was just a baby when he was on the Trail, but his parents died and he was rescued by some white missionaries he took the name Stephen Bennett and then he became a preacher. I'm proud of my heritage, and it makes me mad about what the white men did, but it makes me think that if those missionaries hadn't taken him in i would not be here. When i heard this song it reminded me of the movie The Mission with Robert De Niro in it, because the way the Europeans treated the Indians that lived in the missions were treated like crap once they were captured and sold into slavery, and then we turn around and to the same thing to our Indians. Just my thoughts.

General Comment:I'm Ojibwa myself. I know this is off topic, but, has anyone else besides me noticed a similarity in Native American languages to that of Asian languages? And, not just that, look at the similarity of facial structure of both races. I've been mistaken a few times to have asian in me only to surprise people I'm FAR from it.

General Comment:This song reminds me of all my people have lost...I'm half Native American, and a Lakotan to boot.

But the saddest thing is, because of what the white man did, I never learned my native tongue, never learned all the traditions of my people, and never learned what it was like to really be a Native American.

Some of my elders and ancestors we keep in touch with still resent what the white man did to them, yet there is also still a sad resignation whenever they tell us the stories, and I can link this song to some of the tales we have been told.

The poem and the chanting make me smile every time I hear it; my ancestors hardly speak our native tongue much anymore, and it is such a joy to hear it spoken.

And it's not often someone outside of our community brings up the terrible injustice done to us. :)

    General Comment:Pretty obvious one...

It's about how white man came and took over the land of the Native Americans, similar in meaning to Iron Maiden's "Run to the Hills". They then forced them to move away (Trail of Tears was a trail Native Americans followed west to relocate)

It also describes how the person's story of white man coming is only known because it was passed down from generation to generation orally.

General Comment:It is about the indians he even contacted one indian (John two Hawk)to make the song. One fun thing its that after they had recorded ot John and his wife gave Tuomas a Indian name Sunkmanitutanka Nagi which means (great) shadow wolf.

    Watch this video.
The lasts minutes, man, I get tears in my eyes everytime.

General Comment:Absolutely beautiful song about Native Americans.

I'm British, and I sometimes think it's easier to see the hypocrisy in the USA from where I'm standing, on the outside. I hate the way that there's such a one-sided 'patriotism' which glorifies people like Columbus and the killing of 'indians'. I'm not saying that people should be all humble and take responsibility for what their ancestors did, it's not their fault they were both there, and I am absolutely against blaming a people because of their heritage. But still, I think Columbus day should not be about celebrating the 'discovery' of america, it should be about remembering the native americans, learning the reality of that 'discovery' and that they are an essential, inseparable part of american history.

General Comment:The song was named after and inspired by a novel of the same name by the American novelist and historian Dee Brown.

The song is about the extermination of Native Americans by European settlers and United States expansion during the 18th to 20th centuries. At the same time, the song is also about the status of Native Americans in modern times and their perspective of their past, present, and future.

General Comment:it's great to see tuomas write songs about matters other than his personal emotions.
i like personal songs like 'dead boy's poem' but it's great to see changes too, especially through such a beautiful song.

General Comment:Being Native American, this song is very important to me. My ancestors followed the trail of tears, and were driven out of their homelands by the Europeans. I live in the UK, while my family live in lands given to us by the government in Canada. We never forget what was done to us, some elders even hating the white man for it, though most have come to accept it, and things are better now. This song encompasses everything about our culture and that time. I am not Lakotan, but the poem and chanting still make me smile. It is not often we see a band with no native american roots of their own making a song about the injustice done to us.(At least, I assume they have no roots)
