Lyrics for Almost Crimes as interpreted by solarblue

Almost Crimes Lyrics
You're like the missile kind
Little kingdoms in your chest

I told you we make it, it's all for another
(But on all that mess)
I told you we make it, its all for a more than now

This is how they wear their all
But we'd look better if we wed

I told you we'd make it, I'm all for another
(I bet bleeding comes down lightly)
I told you we'd make it, I'm up for another
(I bet mouths suggest)

Help piss love before you leave
Demonstrations lack caress

I wanted to stay there, I couldn't
(I fought it, naked boys dream so silent)
I know that it makes sense, but I got know way in here
(children sleep with dicks)

The Yukon keeps me up all night
Complications seize your best

I told you I want it, I know that from you
(I bet bleeding comes down lightly)
I waited, I waited, it's late night and she's waiting at home
(I bet mouths suggest)

We got love and hate it's the only way

I think it's almost crime
I think it's almost time

If you were to look up messiah on the online dictionary, the meaning is "a zealous leader of some cause or project."

And thus, making the phrase "You're like a messiah, pal. Little kingdoms in your chest." Make sense. :)

i love this song. i have the album and the only songs i really listened to at first were anthems and cause=time.

i really regret not looking further into each song. if you are discouraged by the lack of lyrics, you are not listening close enough!

does anyone else think that 'children sleep with dicks' might also have something to do with asshole parents out there, and how when kids are little they like to sleep in their parents bed? even if their dad's a dick. (I'm truley not venting anything here, just thought it made sense)

I love this song, there's three phenomenal lines in it that absolutely ruin me: "Demonstrations lack caress," "your calls keep me up all night, complication sees your best." and "I've been getting calls now out here." Kevin Drew has such a strong prose.

Ok, I retract my last statement, because they posted the lyrics to this song on their myspace page. The correct lyrics are:

You're like a messiah, pal
Little kingdoms in your chest

I told you we'd make it, on for another
I told you we'd make it, on for all night (Put on all our best)

This is how they will live on
We'd looked better if we win

I told you we'd make it on for another (Oh I've been getting calls now out here)
I told you we'd make it on for another (On their mouths and chest)

Help this love before you leave
Demonstrations lack caress

I want you to take you, call on for life (Thank you for creating souls...)
The longer we make this, got no way there (Children sleep with dicks)

Your calls keep me up all night
Complication sees your best

Told you, I want it here longer for you (I've been getting calls now out here)
I waited, I waited, it's late night, she's waiting at home (On their mouths and chest)

We've got love and hate it's the only way
We've got love and hate it's the only way

I think it's almost crimes
I think it's almost crimes
I think it's almost crimes
I think it's almost time

ok i'm at work so i didn't have time to go through and read what everyone wrote i just skimmed to see if anyone had put what i thought it was about so here's my interpretation or the situation

it's a boy and a girl that have been dating and it's the girls first time because of the "I bet bleeding comes down lightly" part showing she's a virgin and yes it's a girl because of the little kingdoms in her chest, she guards them like a kingdom

I told you we'd make it, I'm all for another
(I bet bleeding comes down lightly)
I told you we'd make it, I'm up for another
(I bet mouths suggest)

that is the conversation in the "Yukon" it's the girl's part saying i told you we'd do it another time and she's up for another time b/c she wants it to be special and the guy is saying well you won't bleed that much

I told you I want it, I know that from you
(I bet bleeding comes down lightly)
I waited, I waited, it's late night and she's waiting at home
(I bet mouths suggest)

in this stanza she's saying well i want it and i know you do by your actions but my mom's waiting on me to get home so we dont' have time

there's no rape in my version it's an almost crime to get someone that worked up and not do anything about it

K, this is my intake on Almost Crimes
I loved this song from the beginning sadly im not cool enough to buy their albums but ive got the whole thing on my itunes. So, yeah Almost Crimes compared to the whole is somewhat better than the rest of the album that is excluding "Looks Just Like The Sun.", " Shampoo Suicide.", "Lover's Spit", and "Cause = Time". These are probably my favourites like, of Broken Social Scene as a whole. Now, this song like many others probably also has to do with some form of melestation or rape, esspecially focused toward a younger male figure in the song. Also the part where it says "The Yukon keeps me up all night." that might be refering to the cold, like the cold in his heart, this would be talking about the rapist. Its like the rapist vs. boy point of view. And since the boy never told anyone he was touched, its ALMOST crimes because no one knows, except the boy and the criminal. Or, there wasnt enough evidence presented so it was ALMOST crimes.

If it's "children," then I'd have to go with what StephRox said. However, "cheaters" would definitely fit in a song about a failing relationship.

Oldtimes, that would be Leslie Feist. You should check out her solo work, as well as Amy's and Emily's.

yeah I agree that this song does not make any sense but its energy is just contagious. its one of my fave songs right now, and quite possibly of all time. btw, who is the female singer in this song? thanks.

I split the track to hear the vocals better, and I definitely heard,
"CHEATERS sleep with dicks"...not children...at all.

And it sounds like the line, "Naked for us, it's been so silent" is correct, like pragmatic said.

broken social scene has the best lyrics that make no sense when just obliviously listening and still make little sense when trying to understand along with a great combination of instrumentals. it's great how they go perfectly hand in hand. and how the lyrics are sometimes are so outrageously rhymed or ridiculous but are perfectly lovely. and yeah they do mix they're lyrics like crasssszzy when i saw them live i had no idea what they were singing during "cause = time" but i still fell in love.

I think the line "children sleep with dicks" is sorta of a metaphor that even in the most innocent things there is evil. I think this because society views children as being completly innocent and they think of the sexual parts of the body as being evil and sinful. everyone thinks as evil and good being two completly different things, but in truth they are part of each other. hence the line "Children sleep with dicks"

i read what pragmatic said and i disagree. ive seen bss live and have watched several videos of them live and those lyrics hardly ever come up. although as we all know, broken social scene likes to change their lyrics when they sing. ex. in one version amy/feist or hooeverr will sing "i told you, we'd make it, on for another
i told you we'd make it on for all nighttt"
orr
"i told you, we'd make it on for another,
i told you we'd make it, i waited, waited"
this can be because they 4got the lyrics or they just are singing differant lyrics to confuse us, or they just dont care. regardless.. this was my first song ive even heard by BSS and i fell in love wiht them imediatley. this song iss sooo great how their voices overlap and feists angelic voice carries the song on. my favourite line in the song is the repeated words" we got love, and hate its the only way" cause it makes so much sence. also at the end wen they're all like i tihnkkk itss allmostt crimmmmesss!!! just makes u wana get up andd dance your fucking ass off! especcially this videoo, the way feist dances gets me so pumped. this is my ALL TIME FAVOURITE SONG BY BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE... its so brilliant. (runners up incllude anthems

I think it is very possible what slp44 said. After listening to a live, clear-as-a-bell acoustic version w/ Lisa Lobsinger, I referred back to the CD version (the verses were sung in a different order) to get something like this for the first half of the song:

I told you we'd make it, up for another
I told you we'd make it, up for more now (Put on all that best)

This is how they will wear their all
We'd looked better when we're dead

I told you we'd make it, up for another (Nothing even comes down like this)
I told you we'd make it on for another (Nothing amounts to shit)

Help this love before you leave
Demonstrations like caress

I wanted to save it, I got that from you (Naked for us, it's been so silent)
I told you I'd make it, I got no way in here (Children sleep with dicks)
...

Wouldn't you know it? I had no idea this thing was explicitly a LOVE song. I love the line sung by Drew: "Naked for us, it's been so silent." Wooow. Awesome.

I absolutly love this song. Its great and the acoustic version is awesome also. As for that 1st line I know they often change their lyrics live but in the studio recorded version off the disk i always thought that they said "you're like a masai cow" masai being a african ttribe whose religion involvs sacraficing cows and they worship cows too. That's just my two cents but if you want that acoustic version check it out here

These lyrics are way off

Anyways I think this song is just about a lot of things, the main theme I think a boy and a girl in a chaotic relationship, it's not perfect but it works. The song just has so much energy to it, it's hands down my favorite song ever, not just BSS song.

yes benaDOUCHE...because Kevin Drew reads Songmeanings.net and knew that everyone on the planet was DYING to know wheter he said "you con" or "yukon"....

In all honesty I dont think Kevin Drew would give a flying fuck....If you dont get it. You dont get it. End of story.
