Don't tread the water, just stay still
I'm not be bothered by you until
I'm picking sides, and pulling the strings
I'm living lies and shedding the skin
I'm open wide and letting you in
I'm wronging rights,

Believe I don't care what you want,
I just want mine
Shut up, smart little bitch
I don't need lies
I don't care what you want,
I just want mine.
Get up, force it to fit
Confined inside

Don't pull me under into the deep
I often wonder how it should be
I'm picking sides, and pulling the strings
I'm living lies and shedding the skin
I'm open wide and letting you in
I'm wronging rights,
Believe!

I don't care what you want,
I just want mine
Shut up, smart little bitch
I don't need lies
I don't care what you want,
I just want mine.
Get up, force it to fit
Confined inside

I don't care what you want,
I just want mine
I don't care what you want,
I just want mine

I don't care what you want,
I just want mine
Shut up, smart little bitch
I don't need lies
I don't care what you want,
I just want mine.
Get up, force it to fit
Confined inside my dead eyes!

My Interpretation:I always just thought it was about a shark swimming around thinking about how badass he is.

General Comment:to me, the song is about someone raping a girl and then killing her. "confined inside my dead eyes" but i think the whole story is being told from her point of view, and how she thinks her attacker is thinking. i doubt ben would ever rape anybody...lol. he said in an interview he doesn't believe in violence. and i have nooo idea why this song is called "believe". the whole "get up, force it to fit" i think kind of mostly explains it haha.

General Comment:i think confined inside is about more about restricting her and almost making her become his slave. that along with force it to fit, which i think is like making her wear something too small, to inhibit movement or w/e. i dont think this song is about rape.

General Comment:i think that this is about a guy whos woman is cheating on him or lying or whatever and this guy puts up with it for a long time, while it slowly wears him down. eventually he snaps and is sick of pretending that everything is ok and he rapes her. anyways i think confined inside, and especially confined inside my dead eyes, means after he rapes her, he murders her and then commits suicide, and that no one would ever know what happend but his dead self

General Comment:I know I'm late but hi anyways. When I first heard this song I thought it was about rape too but i rethought the lyrics alittle and thought maybe he's talking about him and a girl and how hes been exiled because of it. Like they're running away. The whole song feels very angry and action packed. Its like the type of music they play in high action scenes in movies when people are chasing each other. Btw- this is just what I think, or how I saw it so you don't have to agree, just an opinion. Anyway, heres what I think:

Don't tread the water, just stay still
I'm not be bothered by you until
(Its like hes saying "don't start trouble for me just keep your head low")

I'm picking sides, and pulling the strings
(Its like hes having to choose btw her and another type of life. "pulling strings"- either to keep there secret by using people to keep them quiet or making her stay quiet)

I'm living lies and shedding the skin
I'm open wide and letting you in
    I'm wronging rights,
(He has to run away and lie about them so they can be together. "wronging rights"-no one wants them together)

Believe I don't care what you want,
    I just want mine
    Shut up, smart little bitch
    I don't need lies
I don't care what you want,
    I just want mine.
Get up, force it to fit
    Confined inside
(this verse sounds as if the two are arguing about what they both want. Like the girl wants to let it out but he wants his career so he shuts her up and hides her. Also- "get up force it to fit" could be something he uses to hide her or something he hides her in when people come to see him. And confined could mean restricted. So "confined inside" suggests hes restricted in his own territory. I think it could be the argument. Every 2 lines could be what they say to each other. eg "i don't care what you want i just want mine" could be her. And "shut up smart little bitch, i don't need lies" could be him)

Don't pull me under into the deep
I often wonder how it should be
(these lines might be talking about her convincing him to stop hiding-"don't pull me under into the deep" as if shes drowning him by making him realize his lies and secrecy. "i often wonder how it should be"- might refer to how real relationships are meant to be in his eyes, or how he sees them as happy with everyone being so welcoming)

I'm picking sides, and pulling the strings
I'm living lies and shedding the skin
I'm open wide and letting you in
    I'm wronging rights,
    Believe!

I don't care what you want,
    I just want mine
    Shut up, smart little bitch
    I don't need lies
I don't care what you want,
    I just want mine.
Get up, force it to fit
    Confined inside

I don't care what you want,
    I just want mine
I don't care what you want,
    I just want mine

I don't care what you want,
    I just want mine
    Shut up, smart little bitch
    I don't need lies
I don't care what you want,
    I just want mine.
Get up, force it to fit
    Confined inside my dead eyes!
(lifelessness- could be they got caught or hes finding his relationship is dead and not worth it. If it is that he is dead or killed the like "get up, for it to fit" could be him hiding her before he was killed and now that hes dead his secret is "confined in his dead eyes"

Well, there you go. Enjoy! ^-^

General Comment:I love this Breaking Benjamin song. It's probably my favorite song of theirs.

I agree with PainfulLullaby about this song..

General Comment:i know this will sound creepy but it sounds like he's raping her. and she's telling him to stop, thus the verse"i don't care what you want, i just want mine".

I was listening to this song and was all, 'whoa, this sounds a lot like hes talking about rape here. must go check on songmeanings.net'

I don't care what you want,
    I just want mine
-he doesn't care he's hurting her

    Confined inside
-he knows that it will hurt her deeply

I know BBs lyrics get pretty deep but I still can't picture them singing about rape, so I have my doubts that this is what this song is really about.

General Comment:(Don't tread the water, just stay still)

tread water is to try to do something but go nowhere, he is saying just dont try

(I'm not be bothered by you until
I'm picking sides, and pulling the strings
I'm living lies and shedding the skin
I'm open wide and letting you in
    I'm wronging rights)

this sounds alot like he is complying to others wishes (parents maybe) if you are living a lie you might being pursing a life you dont want, to open wide and let you in could mean he is allowing someone to change who he is. plus, if this was about rape why would he say "letting" you in.

(Believe I don't care what you want,
    I just want mine
    Shut up, smart little bitch
    I don't need lies
I don't care what you want,
    I just want mine.
Get up, force it to fit
    Confined inside)

this is said with alot of anger and could be someone yelling at him not caring about what he wants, just forcing him to listen.

(Don't pull me under into the deep
I often wonder how it should be
I'm picking sides, and pulling the strings
I'm living lies and shedding the skin
I'm open wide and letting you in
    I'm wronging rights,
    Believe!)

uses another analogy with water, possibly his life is suffocating (drowing) him

    (Confined inside my dead eyes)

and this song (his opinion) isnt said just thought behind his eyes, which have lost a lust for life.
