Lyrics for Don't Forget to Breathe as interpreted by transmitfailure6

Don't Forget to Breathe Lyrics
Your last words will not be heard
There are too many of them no one deserves
I don't need your love

Landmines hide in your lines
There's too many maps and not enough signs
I don't need your love

So lie awake
So wide awake
Cause in my dreams I'm dying
We wait for light
To kill the night
But is it worth me trying?

A deep breath out on the steps
It's only air that you feel in your chest
I don't need your love

Okay you staked your claim
It's only blood you have in your veins
I don't need your love

So lie awake
Wide awake
Cause in my dreams I'm dying
The sun will rise
The moon will die
But is it worth me trying?

And it's so late
Where will you stay?
It makes no difference
Cause it's all a dream
And tomorrow I'll wake
Tomorrow I'll wake
It makes no difference
Makes no difference

Wide awake
Time will take
All the dreams worth dying
Close your eyes
And the moon will sigh
Is it worth me trying?

I think this song is about a guy finding out the girl he is in love with was just playing with him and that she didn't love him. He's very depressed and feels empty, and desperately trying to convince himself that he doesn't need her to love him.

"Your last words will not be heard
There are too many of them no one deserves
I don't need your love "

This first line makes me feel like my heart is breaking every single time I hear it. It's so beautiful and sad. you can't help but love this song. I think because of the way he says no one deserves her words, the girl is a nasty piece of work.

"Landmines hide in your lines
There's too many maps and not enough signs "

Landmines, or bombs, are in everything she says. I think by this he means that everything she ever told him was a lie. This girl is definitely not honest.

"So lie awake
So wide awake
Cause in my dreams I'm dying
We wait for light
To kill the night
But is it worth me trying?"

He loses sleep over whether or not to take the girl back, whether or not it would be a waste of time for him.

"A deep breath out on the steps
It's only air that you feel in your chest "

This is how he calms down. Maybe he is crying over her, and he is probably trying to reason with himself out on his porch that there is no reason to cry/be upset.

"Okay you staked your claim
It's only blood you have in your veins "

Basically, he is telling the girl that he gets it. She doesn't want him. Fine. But he reminds her that she doesn't need to be so terrible about it, it's ot as though she has ice in her veins.

The next line reiterates him losing sleep over her. He doesn't want to sleep because when he falls asleep, he only has nightmares.

"And it's so late
Where will you stay?
It makes no difference
Cause it's all a dream
And tomorrow I'll wake
Tomorrow I'll wake
It makes no difference
Makes no difference "

They lived together, so he wonders breifly where she will stay if she's leaving him. Then he decides to not care, he decides that "it makes no difference" to him.

"Close your eyes
And the moon will sigh
Is it worth me trying?"

Clearly he still cares for her, and is wondering if it was the right thing to let her go. Pretending not to care when she left was just an act, and now he wonders if he should try to get her back. He wonders if it is worth it.

yeah, Fiona, you've got it. Except I really think that instead of letting them break-up, instead of confronting her about it, he just leaves. It reminds me of a friend of mine actually. Something that happened to him in middle school (and at 23 he still remembers)... He was dating a girl, but she cheated on him with a friend and when he confronted her on it she apologized and said she "didn't realize they were that serious" and that it "wouldn't happen again" but it did, with a different friend. So this time instead of going to her he went to his friend and told him to back off. Well, this got back to the girl, who, ever so rationally, called my friend out in the middle of a crowded hall yelling, "What did I ever do to you?" Then, instead of yelling back "Are you f***ing serious?" he just stared her in the eye for a moment then turned his back and never spoke to her again. They had a class together and all year she tried to get his attention; I dunno, apologize or something, but he never spoke to her again or even gave her eye contact no matter what their proximity.

So yeah, necessary heart break. Because having your heart broken is better than having it ripped out completely... which is what would've happened in the case of the song (I personally believe).

How can so few people be commenting on this song? It's so completely beautiful?

Yeah, it's the whole "cutting it off with someone" thing, just in your head. Because everybody has to do that, sometimes.

Beulah is everything I love about music, all wrapped up into one band. So pretty.

I think regardless of him claiming "I don't need your love" he really feels like he does needs her love, and needs her to breath (the title...). I really think a part of him left with her, but I also think he let it all wash over without a fight, and gave himself over to complete hopelessness. (The moon will die but is it worth me trying?) It just feels to me like he doesn't have any fight left in him, even though he is still silently mourning by himself. I think he is trying to convince himself he doesn't care, but really it's taken a huge part of him and left him emty (It's only air that you feel in your chest). I think if he really didn't care this song wouldn't even exist.

It is such a beatiful song.

“Your last words will not be heard
There are too many of them no one deserves
I don't need your love”

Summary: This is likely coming at the end of a long talk during which the lead man told the girl how much she meant to him (probably not for anywhere near the first time). He’s probably been really patient and waited to see if his love for her might mean something, but now he’s fed up and decides that she won’t have the last word. He feels the way she has responded to his genuine love for her is something “no one deserves.” Even though he’s still hopelessly and painfully in love with her, he knows he must begin the process of convincing himself that he doesn’t need her love and that he can and must move on.

There a lot of good meaning being taken out of this song, especially above me. A great song.
