Lyrics for Gravity as interpreted by ciega

Gravity Lyrics
Honey
It's been a long time coming
And I can't stop now
Such a long time running
And I can't stop now
Do you hear my heart beating?
Can you hear that sound?
'Cause i can't help thinking
I don't look down

And then I looked up at the sun
And I could see
Oh, the way that gravity turns for you and me
And then i looked up at the sky
And saw the sun
And the way that gravity turns on everyone
On everyone

Baby
It's been a long time waiting
Such a long, long time
And I can't stop smiling
Oh I can't stop now
Do you hear my heart beating?
Oh, do you hear that sound?
'Cause I can't stop crying
And I won't look down

And then I looked up at the sun
And I could see
Oh, the way that gravity turns on you and me
And then I looked up at the sun
And saw the sky
And the way that gravity pulls on you and I
On you and I

Awesome song. I think it's basically him talking about travelling back to the woman he loves. He can't stop smiling thinking of seeing her again after such a long time, his heart is racing and beating loud.
Maybe he's in a plane writing this.
There might be a hint of gravity pushing them apart by turning on you and me. but then at the end it pulls on you and I - meaning that they are finally going to be together again.

Reminds me of my girlfriend. It seems like ive waited forever for somone to hold in my arms. My luck wasnt going well until i met her. So when i hear the song i picture me holdin her in my arms and looking up watching the sunset, then when the sky goes dark i fall asleep with her my arms.

I love this song, but Im suprprised the Athlete you prefer the coldplay version. Maybe if they done a studio version it'd be good?

By the way, this was written by Chris Martin himself and then they thought it wasn't their type of song and gave it to Embrace

Oh, but it's so beautiful.

The studio version of the song comes out on DECEMBER 19th with their new Talk single. I cannot wait; the studio version will make me bawl if the live version could make me cry. I am just so excited for it to come out!

I only know the version of Embrace on their "out Of Nothing" record. Can anybody tell me where I can find the Coldplay version? And don't say it's a B-side of "Talk" (I've noticed that you've talked about it), because in Germany it's another song called "Sleeping Sun".

This song always makes me want to cry. Not because of the lyrics... it just reminds me how I will never meet Chris Martin ever... and that makes me so sad. D:

But this is still one of my favorite songs... ever.

I don't. I find the studio version to be better because it's more soulful to me. I really like the very end, with the drums and piano and just all the vocal ensemble... it always gets me. :)

The second verse 'the way gravity pulls on everyone' is such a therapeutic, Messiah-complex (but in a benevolent & compassionate style) line when you think guilty evil thoughts about strangers, or you see a homeless person. Somehow, as Ben Lee sung: 'were all in this together', ignore one person & he could grow up to be the next Hitler. REMember everyone, or Gravity may catapult/FLOAT all of us from our lonely Square One lonely existences, into outer space, drifting in fact, on a GLOBAL WARMING Deep Impact tidal wave.

I don't know how the live version goes, but these lyrics are nothing like the studio version, which I'm listening to right now.

Baby,
It's been a long time comin'.
Such a long, long time.
And I can't stop runnin',
Such a long, long time.
Can you hear my heart beating?
Can you hear that sound?
'Cause I can't help thinking,
And I won't stop now.
And then I looked up at the sun,
And I could see,
Oh, the way that gravity pulls on you and me.
And then I looked up at the sky,
And saw the sun.
And I could see how gravity pushes,
On everyone,
On everyone.
Baby,
When your wheels start turning,
And you feel let down,
And it seems like troubles,
Have come all around,
I can feel your heart beating.
I can hear that sound.
But I can't help thinking,
And I won't look down.
And then I looked up at the sun,
And I could see,
Oh, the way that gravity pulls on you and me.
And then I looked up at the sky,
And saw the sun,
And the way that gravity pushes on everyone,
On everyone,
On everyone.
On everyone.
On everyone.
On everyone.

As you can see, they're completely different pretty much.

Wait a second, those lyrics up top are just Embrace's slight modification of the stuff Christ Martin wrote. Who's the dick who just copied the Embrace version without making any effort to check if it's right? Ciega? You're an idiot.
Oh well. The whole "travelling back to a former love interest" theory might work for Embrace's wacking revamp of Chris's original lyrics, but I don't think it works for the Coldplay version.

I think Coldplay's version is about death, and how it's inevitable for everyone. The narrator begins by describing how death is coming (it's been a long time comin') and how he doesn't want to stop living (and I can't stop runnin'). He then asks for some reassurance from a friend or lover of some sort that he's still living (can you hear my heart beating, can you hear that sound) because he knows full well that death is inevitable (and I can't help thinking) and he doesn't want to die (and I won't stop now). Then, he has a moment of revealation, and realizes that death is like gravity, in that it pushes and pulls on everyone and thing, affecting attitudes and relationships and all sorts of crazy shit.
In the second verse, the narrator reassures his friend or lover or whatever that even if their life is engulfed in pain and problems, they have the freedom to determine and shape their life, because they're alive. (when your wheels start turning and you feel let down and it seems your troubles have come all around I can feel your heart beating, I can hear that sound) But still, in the back of his mind, he understands that in the end, even that will be taken away (and I can't help thinking and I won't look down). But once again, the narrator understands that "gravity" pulls and pushes everyone together, so essentially, we're all in the same boat, and there's nothing to fear 'cause no one is excluded. Gravity pushes down on everyone.

Are you serious right now Baggins?

The song can be interpreted with Chris' version as gravity pulling him and the one he loves back together.

Baby, it's been a long time comin
Such a long, long time
And I can't stop running
Such along, long time

Cause I can't help thinking
And I won't stop now

Have you ever thought that maybe it's about an ex- girlfriend? to me, it is. Because I can relate to it.

They go through a hard break-up, and he misses her so much. And he looks up at the sun, and the sky, and gets this glimpse of hope, that she will be back. Because "Gravity pulls on you and me"

He gets hope that she will someday be back.

And throughout the song, he talks of them having troubles, and they feel let down, they will always be their for them.

hence "I can feel your heart beating", as if to show that they did come back, because they had so much to deal with, this person realized they needed Chris(or whomever) to lean on, and learned they do need them in life.

He won't look down, he won't give up hope and getting this person back. he can't help but think of the ways she could come back, and the ways he would feel when she does come back. Because then this person does, he would be washed over with happiness.

And the ending of this song, looking up at the sun, and the sky, I can picture him holding his loved ones in his arms, as she falls asleep.

And he thinks about how "gravity pushes on everyone"

Maybe a metaphor that people are pushed by their past, their feelings and emotions for someone. They push themselves to do what is the right thing, and be with the one they love.

Definitly can be about love or about the person he loves in this song.

I think it's about love in genral. About how people fall in love and then you can fall out of love.

Like gravity pushing and pulling on your heart. thats why he "cant stop smiling" and then "cant stop crying". The song is a little joyful but mostly sad because in the end gravity "pulls" and "turns on everyone."

Its such a true song if you've ever really been in love with someone. It gives you that exact feeling in the song.

i think it's the exact opposite of Sometime5's interpretation - i see it as gravity pulling two people apart. being with someone you love is like flying, but like radiohead says, "gravity always wins." he knows that inevitably gravity will bring them back down to earth. he's trying to deny it ("i won't look down"), but he can't help thinking about it. when he looks up at the sky/sun he knows that they can't beat gravity.
