There is something I wanted to tell you,
It's so funny you'll kill yourself laughing
But then I, I look around,
And I remember that I am alone,
Alone.
For evermore

The tile yard all along the railings,
Up a discolored dark brown staircase
Here you'll find, despair and I,
Calling to you with what's left of my heart,
My heart,
For evermore

Drinking tea with the taste of the Thames,
Sullenly on a chair on the pavement
Here you'll find, my thoughts and I,
And here is the very last plea from my heart
My heart. For evermore,
Where taxi drivers never stop talking
Under slate grey Victorian sky,
Here you will find, despair and I
And here I am every last inch of me is yours,
Yours,
For evermore

Your leg came to rest against mine,
Then you lounged with knees up and apart
And me and my heart, we knew,
We just knew,
For evermore

Where taxi drivers never stop talking,
Under slate grey Victorian sky
Here you'll find, my heart and I,
And still we say come back,
Come back to Camden
And I'll be good, I'll be good,
I'll be good, I'll be good

General Comment:Oh God, this song is so special to me "Your leg came to rest against mine, Then you lounged with knees up and apart
And me and my heart, we knew, We just knew, For evermore"... So so beautiful, makes me so sad. I think about somebody that I adored whenever I hear this song. Still do H.

Song Meaning:“Come back, come back, dear friend, only friend, come back. I promise to be good."

The above line is taken from a letter, dated July 4th 1873, from Rimbaud in London to Verlaine in Brussels and is paraphrased by Morrissey in the final line of the song ("Come back to Camden and I'll be good."). The "discolured dark brown staircase" is a reference to their seedy digs in 8 Great College Street (now Royal College Street), Camden Town. There they lived in a single room on the top floor, accessible only via a staircase (presumably dark and discoloured) and conducted a stormy homosexual love affair (when not writing absinthe-fuelled poetry). General Comment:Hi, I listened to this song once when I was in London and everytime I hear it now, I get some kind of pavlov's reaction which makes me want to go to London so badly.... Is that strange? ;)

General Comment:I could be wrong, but I'm sure at the end of the song, he sings "I'll be good" three times, but the fourth and final line is actually "I'll be gone". Which kind of makes it even more heartbreaking.

General Comment:Who cares if it's about a man or a woman.
    It's about heartbreak.
And coming to terms with accepting it.

General Comment:What makes people think that the song is about a man? It could just as easily be about a woman.

General Comment:This might be about himself, considering he used to live there.
