Lyrics for Helena as interpreted by Brandnizzle2k4

Helena Lyrics
Long ago
Just like the hearse you die to get in again
We are so far from you

Burning on just like a match you strike to incinerate
The lives of everyone you know

And what's the worst you take
From every heart you break
And like the blade you stain
Well I've been holding on tonight

What's the worst that I could say
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

Came a time
When every star fall brought you to tears again
We are the very hurt you sold

And what's the worst you take
From every heart you break
And like the blade you stain
Well I've been holding on tonight

What's the worst that I could say
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
And if you carry on this way
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

Can you hear me
Are you near me
Can we pretend to leave and then
We'll meet again
When both our cars collide

What's the worst that I could say
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
And if you carry on this way
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

I believe i am a prime example of Brop52's point...of course i'm drunk off of a "40" bottle of michelobe ice and deriving more meaning and content from this little session of analyzing a song than i draw from my job or most of my life for that matter, but anyway...where was i? ;) i'm bored...going for a walk.

I believe myself to be a prime example of Brop52's point, of course i'm drunk sensless off of a "40" of michelobe ice and deriving more meaning and content out of the analysis of this song than i derive from a remaining 70 percent of my life, but anyway...where was i? ;) i'm bored. i think i'll go for a ride on my bike....yes, i still ride a bike.

I think everyone knows that this song is about Gerard's grandmother Elena. If you watched the 2$ bill with The Used, Gerard performs that song and says its a very important song to him and Mikey (milky hahah) because its about their grandma. So we got that down. Anyway...the music video was beautiful and the ballet dancing girl was absolutely beautiful my mom thinks its such a morbid song but she doesn't understand rock...-_-

His grandmother must be proud that her 28 yr old son is prancing around for teenagers in girl make-up.

Apparently his Grandmother encouraged them into music, but the song was only dedicated to her!!! HOW DOES IT RELATE TO HER???? other than shes dead

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT it is "burning on, just like a match you STRIKE to incinerate" not start STRIKE. it has a double meaning. strike like stike a match and strike like strike someone down. if you read the next lyric you would understand the simili- the character in the song strikes (strikes them down or strike a match)to incenerate (look it up) their LIVES. he is using the whole fire/burning/match concept FOR ALL HIS SIMILIS AND METEPHORES. someone said it had to do with smoking or some bs like that... no!

Okay, this is my thoughts on this album. All the songs are telling a story about a guy and the girl he loves. I could be totally off but I think that maybe MCR wants these songs to be different for everyone. The story begins that he has a girl friend that he is in love with but she one of the popular kids and she doesn't have anything to do with him except when they are alone.
In Helena, I think he talking about how she treats him differently in front of her friends and he wants to be with her but she becomes a different person when other people are around them.
In Give em hell kid, this is about her wedding day. He was there but couldnt stand to see her marrying someone else. Especially someone she doesnt love.
In To the end, I think this is about her marriage to her husband she does not love. He knows and the husband knows that she only married him for the husband's money. She going through a hard time being married to this other guy so any time she gets upset, she calls the friend so she can complain.
In the Prison song, I think this is where she ask him to kill her husband but he doesnt want to do that and tells her to just leave him. But she won't and he knows that he will do anything for her even though he knows if he gets caught she will not be there for him.
In I'm not okay, He still trying to convince her to just leave. That they have been through a lot together.
In Ghost of You, this is where he is realizing that she will never leave her husband to be with him. He wants to break free from her but his love for her is too strong. He knows that only in death they will truly be together.
In the Jetset life, he is talking about how he can get away from her control over him. That no matter what she does to herself or to him that he will always be there for her. Even though she has changed from the person that he fell in love with. He hopes that that girl will come back to him.
In Thank you for the Venom, this is where he is finally telling her that he will help break free from the husband. He's taking all her crap so far that he will go the extra mile this time too. But she will have to take him as he is.
In Hang em high, this is where he kills the husband. He doing this to prove his love but he knows she has lost her mind. She wants her husband died but she doesn't want to be involved with it.
In Fashion statement, he realizes that she will never be with him even after what he has done for her. He knows she will not be there for him if he gets caught. He's planning to make sure she gets taken down with him.
In Cemetry drive, this is where he kills her. He tried of her lies and the games. He feels this is the only way to save her from herself and to change her back to the person she was. He wonders if all she wanted from him was to end her misery.
In Do for a living, this is where he kills himself. He thinks that if they are both died that they can finally be together. That she will be the person he fell in love with so long ago. That their deaths will clean up the mess that was their lives.
These are my thoughts on the songs. It's romanctic and deadly. Like I said before, Im probably way off on what they mean.

Steals some Aerosmith...

It's dedicated to the grandmother. Not about the grandmother, to me anyways. When meeting them, Gerard explained that he based the song around a suicide of a grade 8 student in his hometown.

The girl was situated in a suicide pact with 2 other girls but they ended up not killing themselves. The one girl that did hung herself.

The rest is a secret.

This is sorta a pointless question, but its been driving me nuts. Is it pronounced Hell-ain-a or Helen-a?

well first of all its obvious that its about his grandma.
atleast some parts make sence. "Burning on just like a match you start to incinerate" thats basically saying she lived her life got old and died. Second in my opinion i think that the chorus is when maybe he encounters his grandma and talks to her after she is dead.
Them:Whats the worst that I could say?
Grandma:Things are better if I stay
Grandma:So long and goodnight
Them:So long and goodnight
also it kinda makes sence that they met again after she died because he says "Can we pretend
to leave again
And meet again"
so yeah..good song..i really like mcr!!!

i think it could easily be all three of the interpretations:
1. all about Gerard and Mikey's grandma
2. all about the suicide pact
3. both

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY VALID INFORMATION THAT PROVES ANY OF THIS RIGHT OR WRONG????

I luv this song, thoguh I can't really say that I knew it was about his grandmother. I was thrown of by the "from every heart you break" and the "incinerate the lives of everyone you knew" and the "We are the very hurt you sold". I really thought it was about a dead lover who died in a car accident, but that's why I failed chemestry. And to Anti Magnet, it iz usually pronounced Helen-a, though it is pronounced Hell-ain-a by Gerard, and helena is a spanish name. In spanish, the 'h' is always silent. It iz pronounced Elen-a. The english for of this name would be Helen or Elen.

gerard told in his interview that he wrote this for his and Mikey's grandma who died just before they finished recording their album. It's like an ode to their grandma.

ps. I LOVE GERARD WAY! He's only mine!
