Xiu Xiu – Little Panda McElroy

  My Interpretation: This song strikes somewhere pretty personal for me. To me, it seems reminiscent of being an individual with self-destructive tendencies, like what you may see in severe depression, bi-polar or borderline personality disorders. To go deeper, perhaps a romantic relationship has run its course and his partner who he idealizes(views them as perfect...which is common with borderlines) as perfect has grown to feel that his flawed behavior has become a strain that they can no longer cope with.
  
  I imagine that around "Because of you", the lyrics become a reply almost. They become like a last plead to a partner who is severing ties that he is a work in progress and that with who he does not want to lose is integral in his happiness.
  
  "I can start listening, I can say hi" is almost like a vow that despite the relationship lying in ruin, he does not want them to leave his life and is making a seemingly empty pledge (in the context of the other lyrics) to his former partner that he will try to find happiness without them...again, within the context, it could be interpreted that this pledge is a final sort of subconscious attempt to win someone back despite his flaws.
  
  I am into university literature/poetry and have been having personal issues, so perhaps I am readin into this too much.

  General Comment:I think he does love her, like the deep love of a family or friend. Like I might love my brother, but I don't think its meant to be sexual or romantic. But who knows, Xiu Xiu isn't really a conforming band and maybe its something unique.

  General Comment:You know...I'm new to Xiu Xiu. So, if that woman is actually his cousin, it's not that weird. Maybe he loves her as family? So maybe this woman helped him get through some hard times, and he loves her for that. The way a guy loves his cousin. That's what I get from the song.
