Lyrics for It's Not A Fashion Statement, It's A Fuc... as interpreted by Brandnizzle2k4

It's Not A Fashion Statement, It's A Fuc... Lyrics
(For what you did to me
and what i'll do to you
you get what everyone else gets
you'll get a lifetime)

Lets Go!

Do you remember back when we met
you told me this gets harder
Well it did
Been holding on forever
promise me that when i'm gone you'll kill my enemies

The damage you've inflicted
temporary wounds
i'm coming back from the dead
and i'll take you home with me
i'm taking back the life you stole

We never got that far
this helps me to think
all through the night
bright lights that
won't kill me now
or tell me how
just you and i
your starless eyes remain

Hip hip hooray for me
you talk to me
but would you kill me in my sleep
lay still like the dead
from the razor to the rosary
we could lose ourselves
and paint these walls
in pitchfork red

I will avenge my ghost
with every breath i take
i'm coming back from the dead
and i'll take you home with me
i'm taking back the life you stole

This hole you put me in
wasn't deep enough
and i'm climbing out right now
you're running out of places
to hide from me

When you go
just know that i will remember you
if living was the hardest part
we'll then one day be together

And in the end we'll fall apart
just as the leaves change in color
and then i will be with you
i will be there one last time now

When you go
just know that i will remember you
i've lost my fear of falling
i will be with you, i will be with you

When i first heard it it sounded like he was talking about his expeirence with drugs. "Do you remember back when we met you told me this gets harder" Is probably the person that introduced him to drugs. He than talks about the damage that it had done but are now healed, taking back the life the person stole. Then he talks about her 'starless eyes remain' probably indicating that his friend still does drugs. 'This hole you put me in wasn't deep enough' meaning that he overcame his addiction, knowing that his life deserves better.
At the end, it seems like he wants the person to get what they deserved and be punished because of what the friend dragged him into, but still cares about him and whats him to pull through.

FOR ME THIS SONG ALWAYS REMINDS ME OF THE BRANDON LEE MOVIE 'THE CROW'. IT'S LIKE EVERY SINGLE LINE REMINDS ME OF IT BUT I'LL JUST HIGHLIGHT A FEW...OKAY, "PROMISE ME THAT WHEN I'M GONE YOU'LL KILL MY ENEMIES" MAKES ME THINK ABOUT THE WAY ERIC DRAVEN AND SHELLY WEBSTER ARE MURDERED IN THE MOVIE AND HOW ERIC ENTERS THE LOFT AND SHELLY IS BEING ATTACKED AND HE WANTS TO STOP IT BUT HE'S ATTACKED AND THEN THROWN OUT OF THE WINDOW TO HIS DEATH AND I CAN JUST IMAGINE WHILE HE'S FALLING HE PRAYS THAT SOMEHOW HE'LL HAVE VENGEANCE AND HIS SADNESS THROUGH WHAT HAS HAPPENED IS CARRIED WITH HIM. AND SO I MOVE ON TO THE PART WHERE THE CROW BRINGS ERIC BACK TO LIFE A YEAR LATER BECAUSE HE CANNOT REST UNTIL HE AVENGES HIS AND SHELLY'S DEATH "THIS HOLE YOU PUT ME IN WASN'T DEEP ENOUGH AND I'M CLIMBING OUT RIGHT NOW, YOU'RE RUNNING OUT OF PLACES TO HIDE FROM ME". ERIC KILLS ALL OF THOSE RESPONSIBLE BUT ALTHOUGH THEY'RE DEAD IT DOESN'T MEAN HE'LL FORGET WHAT THEY DID TO HIM AND THE WOMAN HE LOVED "WHEN YOU GO JUST KNOW THAT I WILL REMEMBER YOU". AND THEN RIGHT AT THE END OF THE MOVIE HE GETS TO GO BACK TO SHELLY BECAUSE HIS MISSION IS COMPLETE "AND THEN I WILL BE WITH YOU, I WILL BE THERE ONE LAST TIME NOW". I HAVE MORE REFERNCES TO THE CROW RELATING TO THIS SONG INCLUDING DOUBLE MEANINGS ON CERTAIN LINES; INCLUDING THE LINES I'VE ALREADY GIVEN MY MEANINGS TO. IN CLOSING, 'IT'S NOT A FASHION STATEMENT, IT'S A FUCKING DEATHWISH' IS MY FAVOURITE TRACK ON 'THREE CHEERS FOR SWEET REVENGE' BECAUSE IT'S SO FRIGGIN' KICKASSFLEXBUFFCHESTAWESOME AND MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE ARE MY FAVOURITE BAND (SERIOUSLY, I'M GERARD WAY'S NUMBER ONE FAN. I AM LITERALLY AN AUTHORITY ON THE GUY) AND ALSO I THINK IT ROCKS THE MY FAVOURITE BAND HAVE A SONG THAT REMINDS ME OF MY FAVOURITE FILM. DUDE.SWEET. POST MY OTHER MEANINGS TO THIS SONG AND OTHERS SOON.

Okay, y'all have got to understand that I have a rather overactive morbid imagination and so everything seems a lot darker and more disturbing to me so I beg pardon for anything creepy I may say next.
I think it's about the guy digging up her body so that he can have her with him. He may possibly be trying out necromancy in an attempt to bring her back to life, but I'm not sure. Maybe he's committing suicide in order to escape this world which is like death to him without her and he now views the afterlife as the real life if she's there.

ok first of all this CD is the sequel to "I brought you my bullets, your brought me your love." that cd told the story of the previously mentioned, bonnie and clyde lovers. at the end of bullets, they are killed. 3 cheers is about the man going to hell and the woman going to heaven. he can return if he brings the devil the sould of 1000 evil men, but there is a catch. this song is about man #999 who is the man that killed him and his lover. he keeps saying that he has come back from the dead to kill him. of course at the end of bullets you discover that the catch is that the last evil man on earth was the main character himself and he commits suicide so that his lover will have another chance at life...

i do like the above idea, it makes perfect sense. and what i was thinking too, because of the part where he goes:

When you go
just know that i will remember you
if living was the hardest part
we'll then one day be together

that could be when his girlfriend is coming back, but he's going back to hell, and he's saying that he'll always remember her, and that they will meet again some day.

because ive heard that it's also about how his friend betrays him or something, but doesnt literally kill him,but emotionally. and so the dude is trying to get his friend back the same way. Its obvious he doesnt WANT to, because of the deep caring for this person, but he wants the person to feel as bad as he does. the "hole" is prolly refering to a state of depression, where it seems like your stuck in a rut and can't get out, but with the thoughts of revenge, the dude climbs back out, and goes off on a seek and destroy thing to kill his friend, only not in the literal sense of the word. I also don't think he died because of the "temporary wounds" if he would have died, then there wouldn't really be any wounds at all, but "temporaray wounds" is prolly refering to the friend betraying the dude, and at first it hurt him, but it shows that the scarrs will fade. idk, i think i like this more than any other idea...so yeah..i take back all i said...wow...i cant make up my mind.

when i hear this song i see 2 people that are roommates in a hospital, a boy and girl. the girl has been there longer though and the boy is singing the song, hence
"remember back when we met you told me this gets harder, well it did"
throughout their struggles they've become good friends but the girl gets annoyed at him sometimes and they've had hard times together. they've also talked and shared a lot with eachother. they could paint the hospital walls "in pitchfork red"
when it gets to the "when you go" part, they are switching off lyrics.
the boy is dying quicker so the girl sings, "when you go, just know that I will remember you"
the boy- "if living was the hardest part, we'll then one day be together."
and then at the end, the girl- "when you go, just know that I will remember you"
boy- "i've lost my fear of falling...i will be with you"
and then finally both of them together-
"I will be with you"
It's kind of like a musical to me. sry if that was stupid or confusing just my interpretation...:)

i never understood this song up til recently.

it meant alot to me personally.

like the 'im taking back the life you stole'.. i took back everything about me that was fake/not me.. and im so much happier for it. everything line of this song means so much to me, and its really just the most amazing song ever about being who you are, revenge, and just having so much hate (mine was at myself)

i always took what it meant to me as the real meaning, so i listened properly and i love it even more.

this song is my reason for my mcr obsession, it (and the band) made me who i am today
:D

im getting 'taking back the life you stole' and a pair of handguns tattoeed in two weeks

:D

I saw in this interview with Gerard about the album and he said the concept of it was that this guy got killed but his wife was still alive. The guy goes to hell where the devil presents him with a gun and if he goes back to earth and brings him the souls of 1000 evil men, using the gun, the devil will let the guy go back to earth and live and be with his wife but apparently the guy does that and he goes back to earth only to find that his wife has killed herself.

this is a great song probably one of my favorites on the album, but the lyrics are wrong...

in the beginning it should be:

"do you remember that day when we met"

but whatever... close enough....

I love how a lot of their songs (including this one) are about stopping a friend, or a girl in MCRs case, from committing suicide. I know how hard it is to try to keep hanging on and their music is so inspiring...

Dunno about the lines: "for what you did to me... blahblah".

But I'm pretty sure this is about backstabbers. Y'know, the ones who become friends with you just to catch you off-guard, then tear you down.

This is like the song for the backstabbed. =p

"Do you remember back when we met
you told me this gets harder
Well it did
Been holding on forever
promise me that when i'm gone you'll kill my enemies"

I think this talks about the part when they're just signing-up their "frendship treaties". The backstabber offers his shoulder to the guy saying, "Life's a bitch. Let's back each other up, okay? *smile+wink*". Then he eventually proves that... in a harsh way. He's the one who gave his friend the taste of life's bitchy-ness WHILE the friend innocently backs him up.

"The damage you've inflicted
temporary wounds
i'm coming back from the dead
and i'll take you home with me
i'm taking back the life you stole"

The betrayed's vengence-howl. I think the lines, "i'll take you home with me", since he's sort of dead, his home is the underworld or something like hell, means that he will pull this backstabber down to hell. "I'm taking back the life you stole" somewhat means that with his revenge, he's ending the betrayer's life, while re-earning his own (he gets the pleasure of seeing that guy in pain).

"We never got that far
this helps me to think
all through the night
bright lights that
won't kill me now
or tell me how
just you and i
your starless eyes remain"

They never got that close anyways, so it won't hurt him that much eventhough he once was his friend. Cheesy things that remind him about how good and sweet that friend WAS and COULD BE, I think, are the "bright lights" that won't affect him anymore and won't soften his heart to lighten the punishment out of mercy. I think "starless eyes" means "blank expression" or something such, that won't make you pitty him, and might even worsen his anger because it seems like it's no big deal to the betrayer that he hurt him.

"Hip hip hooray for me
you talk to me
but would you kill me in my sleep
lay still like the dead
from the razor to the rosary
we could lose ourselves
and paint these walls
in pitchfork red"

These are the deepest lines that couldn't get in one sitting. I think "pitchfork red" is the color of blood, which they will spill on the walls while stabbing each other. I don't know. I'll deal with that later on.

"I will avenge my ghost
with every breath i take
i'm coming back from the dead
and i'll take you home with me
i'm taking back the life you stole"

Again, the vengence-howl of the betrayed-one.

"This hole you put me in
wasn't deep enough
and i'm climbing out right now
you're running out of places
to hide from me"

It's like the batrayed had stood back up, because the damaged dealt wasn't enough to kill him. It's payback time!

"When you go
just know that i will remember you
if living was the hardest part
we'll then one day be together

And in the end we'll fall apart
just as the leaves change in color
and then i will be with you
i will be there one last time now"

The betrayer, sarcastically, trying to pay him back for the friendship. "Life's a bitch, eh? Okay friend, I'll put you to eternal rest so you won't hurt anymore. And from six-feet below the ground shall we be bonded together. I will never forget you, my friend! *evil laugh*".

"i've lost my fear of falling
i will be with you, i will be with you"

He doesn't anymore care even if he stays down. All that matters is that he shall pull him down there, where he also is. They'll be burning there together, but the regret is on the betrayer. He shouldn't have messed with him. *evil laugh*

=p

I love this song. Not my favourite on the album, but I love ALL of the songs... My Chemical Romance are just brilliant. And Gerards vocals are amazing.

I love the line right at the end of the song,

"I've lost my fear of falling..."

That is just fucking brilliant.

I'm guessing this song is about being addicted to drugs. Even the title goes with the song. No, it's NOT a fashion statement (some people think taking drugs is "cool" or you'll be accepted if you take them- peer pressure etc.) - it's a fucking deathwish, because you become addicted and it'll eventually kill you (in more ways than just "death"- you lose your social life, family, friends... Yourself.)

I've never been on drugs, i've never tried them, but I know people who have and it's really sad. They eventually take over their lives.

The timing also fits, that Gerard would write a song about addiction or whatever, cos didn't this salbum come out right about the time he started to get clean?

Please tell me what you think. I could be completely wrong. I've read that "Three Cheers..." was meant to be a concept album of "fearing the loss of a loved one..." so I'm not sure if my interpretation fits with that...
