Lyrics for It's Not A Fashion Statement, It's A Fuc... as interpreted by Brandnizzle2k4

It's Not A Fashion Statement, It's A Fuc... Lyrics
(For what you did to me
and what i'll do to you
you get what everyone else gets
you'll get a lifetime)

Lets Go!

Do you remember back when we met
you told me this gets harder
Well it did
Been holding on forever
promise me that when i'm gone you'll kill my enemies

The damage you've inflicted
temporary wounds
i'm coming back from the dead
and i'll take you home with me
i'm taking back the life you stole

We never got that far
this helps me to think
all through the night
bright lights that
won't kill me now
or tell me how
just you and i
your starless eyes remain

Hip hip hooray for me
you talk to me
but would you kill me in my sleep
lay still like the dead
from the razor to the rosary
we could lose ourselves
and paint these walls
in pitchfork red

I will avenge my ghost
with every breath i take
i'm coming back from the dead
and i'll take you home with me
i'm taking back the life you stole

This hole you put me in
wasn't deep enough
and i'm climbing out right now
you're running out of places
to hide from me

When you go
just know that i will remember you
if living was the hardest part
we'll then one day be together

And in the end we'll fall apart
just as the leaves change in color
and then i will be with you
i will be there one last time now

When you go
just know that i will remember you
i've lost my fear of falling
i will be with you, i will be with you

i love how he says, "I've lost my fear of falling, I will be with you, I will be WITH YOU."

For some reason, the intro reminds me of a wedding. Anyone else feel the same? SO I thought this song was about a wedding, LMFAO. I'm confused now... STOP IT! STOP! Gosh! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Boo.

Yeah, I know I'm weird. So SHUSH NOW.

"Starless eyes"... simply because he/she is dead.

favourite song from three cheers
revenge is a really good concept to work with and this is probably one of the tracks that has the most revenge-suited lyrics in it.

I don't listen to a whole lot of MCR, but I do love this song.

I'm sure the song has a deeper story to it, but I think maybe the title says it all. I think maybe it talks about how people hurt themselves or kill themselves because they think it must be a cool thing to do - ie, thinking self-injury is a "fashion statement" or thinking that suicide is a cool way to go out. (Yeah, right.) But yeah, I think that's pretty much what it sort of says...."It's not a fashion statement, it's a fucking deathwish!"

This song has to be one of the best ones they've ever done.
I love gerard ways voice.

I've listened to these since Bullets came out in teh UK and i still haven't been to see these yet. it's a hell of a wounder.

This band inspire me so much when i write my stories and this album is definately the best one.
The black parade is decent but you cant beat Three Cheers...

I think this song is talking about 'gerard' coming back from the 'dead' and taking revenge on all the poeple that wronged him during his life because he cant rest peacefully if he doesn't.
Also, i may be wrong but, i think at the end, "i've lost my fear of falling i will be with you" means since he's done all he needs to do he's not afraid to die anymore to see someone he loves.

I think chino69's take on the first half of the song, way back on the first page of comments was dead on!

But also songs can sometimes speak to you and mean something intensely personal to you based on your experience. Parts of this song do that to me. AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! The first time I heard this song it just blew me away. I had recently came out of a 10 year abusive marriage and only a few days before the first time I heard this song I wrote a poem that started out "Climbing from beneath your grave. Forgetting how to be a slave."

Anyway, here is what touched me about this song

"Hip hip hooray for me
you talk to me
but would you kill me in my sleep
lay still like the dead
from the razor to the rosary
we could lose ourselves
and paint these walls
in pitchfork red"

I always wondered if he would hurt me THAT bad. Back then I thought if he did then it would be kind of a relief.

"I will avenge my ghost
with every breath i take
i'm coming back from the dead
and i'll take you home with me
I'M TAKING BACK THE LIFE YOU STOLE"

Pretty self explanatory. I really did feel like I was coming back to life from the dead when I was first on my own. I am very happy to say that I have taken my life.

"THIS HOLE YOU PUT ME IN
WASN'T DEEP ENOUGH
AND I'M CLIMBING OUT RIGHT NOW"

Oh hell F-inf yeah! If you wanted me to stay down you should have done a better job of putting me down because I am climbing back out right now! But it wouldn't have mattered anyway because you were always too weak to beat me.

"you're running out of places
to hide from me"

In your mind I am going to haunt you. You will remember me and wish you had another who tried so hard to make you happy. But most of all, you are going to miss your son.

"I'VE LOST MY FEAR OF FALLING"

For me, that is a metaphor for being alone, being a single mom and having no $$. Losing my fear of that is what it took for me to get away from him. That might sound crazy. Some one on the out side would say "I'd never put up with that. Why don't you just leave?" But abuse and losing your self esteem go slowly and by degrees and their are always the constant promises that things will get better. He may ever go to therapy but if he is not ready to change then therapy won't even fix it. You wake up on your 5th wedding anniversary just a shell of who you used to be and you are so full of fear. On your 7th, 8th, 9th it is progressively worse but you don't see the progression while you are in the middle of the storm. I had to lose my fear of being alone, being a single mom. So I totally get the line, "I lost my fear of falling". And I absolutely love it! It might sound silly but so many MCR songs in my early days of being alone helped empower me so much and helped keep me brave and carrying on. I'm glad I discovered them.

Go Gee!!! Write some more magic for us!!!!

PS: An MCR fan old enough to have been married 10 yrs? Yes! MCR has lots older fans. Buzznet and Myspace even has groups for us :) That's another thing that I think is so great about MCR is that they appeal to such a wide range of people. But what I have noticed about most true MCR fans esp the older ones, is that they are real, genuine, open people.

Ha, ha, another thing, while I was married I was a Baptist Sunday School teacher because my husband wanted me to be. Nothing against God or Baptists I just think its funny. I was raised very fundamentalist Baptist but came out of it just a very liberal spiritual person (whew!) but he had to go to church with my mom one day and he had this big conversion. After that he wouldn't let me listen to Pearl Jam anymore because Eddie Vedder is Pro Choice and then the Sunday School thing happened, and then the abuse started. Now I love, in addition to MCR, Anti-Flag and MSI just to name a few, "Oh how a mighty one has fallen" they'd say but I'd say "Oh how the mealy mouthed piss ant has risen!!! Oh and I especially love the MSI song and video for "Shut Me Up" and "Never Wanted to Dance". And MCR"S "Thank You For The Venom" also but if I explained why I'd be here a whole 'nother week. I was just here killing time 'til I had to go and it's time to go now so bye!

People, what is your obssession with bashing MCR? Actually, bashing any band is wrong. You don't like them? Then don't comment. Especially if you're going to be rude about it. I myself don't like country music very much, but do you see me on someone who does country music's lyric page and bashing them? No, so please quit the bashing. :)

Honestly, I don't think making music is easy. Try doing it yourself, and after that, think twice before bashing a band.

MyChemicalNothing, I agree completely with your interpretation. And this song rocks. One of my favourites on this CD of theirs along with I Never Told You What I Do For a Living and To the End. :)

And lol, Scorch.

Im not sure if someone else has written this already! There are so many i couldnt read through them all! lol!

I personally think that this song is about coming out of the depression that someone else has put you in, be it a friendship or love relationship. I think the 'Im coming back from the dead' is a metaphor for depression and also the 'This hole you put me in, wasnt deep enough' is also a metaphor for that fact that although this person has threw the character into depression they didnt completetly destroy this person and they are coming back to get revenge as it were. But then at the end it twists to the fact that the character realises that he still cares for this person but accepts that even if they could be together it would never work out hence the 'but in the end we'll fall apart like the leaves change in colour' line.

mmm hope this makes sense, there are so many metaphores that i could explain but i hope that this gives you the gist of what i think the song is about.

Having been depressed and suffering a mental disorder called BPD, its a real uplifting song about being able to 'come back from the dead'.

Only discovered MCR about 2 months ago and i absolutely adore them...they are real unlike a lot of the manufactured shite thats around these days! lol!!

xX...I think this song is about being obsessed or infatuated with someone who you'll never be with... and leaving to get away from it all and try to forget that you ever knew them... but you can't. And I think "I'm taking back the life you stole" is the person saying they will get over them and get on with life, but in their head the one they love is saying "This hole you put me in wasn't deep enough...", reminding them that they still exist and will always be in their head no matter how hard they try to forget them. This song means a lot to me... and I think Gerard possibly wrote it from personal experience... and the one he loved was Helena...Xx

I love this song. Not my favourite on the album, but I love ALL of the songs... My Chemical Romance are just brilliant. And Gerards vocals are amazing.

I love the line right at the end of the song,

"I've lost my fear of falling..."

That is just fucking brilliant.

I'm guessing this song is about being addicted to drugs. Even the title goes with the song. No, it's NOT a fashion statement (some people think taking drugs is "cool" or you'll be accepted if you take them- peer pressure etc.) - it's a fucking deathwish, because you become addicted and it'll eventually kill you (in more ways than just "death"- you lose your social life, family, friends... Yourself.)

I've never been on drugs, i've never tried them, but I know people who have and it's really sad. They eventually take over their lives.

The timing also fits, that Gerard would write a song about addiction or whatever, cos didn't this salbum come out right about the time he started to get clean?

Please tell me what you think. I could be completely wrong. I've read that "Three Cheers..." was meant to be a concept album of "fearing the loss of a loved one..." so I'm not sure if my interpretation fits with that...

Dunno about the lines: "for what you did to me... blahblah".

But I'm pretty sure this is about backstabbers. Y'know, the ones who become friends with you just to catch you off-guard, then tear you down.

This is like the song for the backstabbed. =p

"Do you remember back when we met
you told me this gets harder
Well it did
Been holding on forever
promise me that when i'm gone you'll kill my enemies"

I think this talks about the part when they're just signing-up their "frendship treaties". The backstabber offers his shoulder to the guy saying, "Life's a bitch. Let's back each other up, okay? *smile+wink*". Then he eventually proves that... in a harsh way. He's the one who gave his friend the taste of life's bitchy-ness WHILE the friend innocently backs him up.

"The damage you've inflicted
temporary wounds
i'm coming back from the dead
and i'll take you home with me
i'm taking back the life you stole"

The betrayed's vengence-howl. I think the lines, "i'll take you home with me", since he's sort of dead, his home is the underworld or something like hell, means that he will pull this backstabber down to hell. "I'm taking back the life you stole" somewhat means that with his revenge, he's ending the betrayer's life, while re-earning his own (he gets the pleasure of seeing that guy in pain).

"We never got that far
this helps me to think
all through the night
bright lights that
won't kill me now
or tell me how
just you and i
your starless eyes remain"

They never got that close anyways, so it won't hurt him that much eventhough he once was his friend. Cheesy things that remind him about how good and sweet that friend WAS and COULD BE, I think, are the "bright lights" that won't affect him anymore and won't soften his heart to lighten the punishment out of mercy. I think "starless eyes" means "blank expression" or something such, that won't make you pitty him, and might even worsen his anger because it seems like it's no big deal to the betrayer that he hurt him.

"Hip hip hooray for me
you talk to me
but would you kill me in my sleep
lay still like the dead
from the razor to the rosary
we could lose ourselves
and paint these walls
in pitchfork red"

These are the deepest lines that couldn't get in one sitting. I think "pitchfork red" is the color of blood, which they will spill on the walls while stabbing each other. I don't know. I'll deal with that later on.

"I will avenge my ghost
with every breath i take
i'm coming back from the dead
and i'll take you home with me
i'm taking back the life you stole"

Again, the vengence-howl of the betrayed-one.

"This hole you put me in
wasn't deep enough
and i'm climbing out right now
you're running out of places
to hide from me"

It's like the batrayed had stood back up, because the damaged dealt wasn't enough to kill him. It's payback time!

"When you go
just know that i will remember you
if living was the hardest part
we'll then one day be together

And in the end we'll fall apart
just as the leaves change in color
and then i will be with you
i will be there one last time now"

The betrayer, sarcastically, trying to pay him back for the friendship. "Life's a bitch, eh? Okay friend, I'll put you to eternal rest so you won't hurt anymore. And from six-feet below the ground shall we be bonded together. I will never forget you, my friend! *evil laugh*".

"i've lost my fear of falling
i will be with you, i will be with you"

He doesn't anymore care even if he stays down. All that matters is that he shall pull him down there, where he also is. They'll be burning there together, but the regret is on the betrayer. He shouldn't have messed with him. *evil laugh*

=p

this is a great song probably one of my favorites on the album, but the lyrics are wrong...

in the beginning it should be:

"do you remember that day when we met"

but whatever... close enough....

I love how a lot of their songs (including this one) are about stopping a friend, or a girl in MCRs case, from committing suicide. I know how hard it is to try to keep hanging on and their music is so inspiring...

I saw in this interview with Gerard about the album and he said the concept of it was that this guy got killed but his wife was still alive. The guy goes to hell where the devil presents him with a gun and if he goes back to earth and brings him the souls of 1000 evil men, using the gun, the devil will let the guy go back to earth and live and be with his wife but apparently the guy does that and he goes back to earth only to find that his wife has killed herself.
