She seems dressed in all the rings
Of past fatalaties
So fragile yet so devious
She continues to see it
Climatic hands that press
Her temples and my chest
Enter the night that she came home
Forever
Oh (she's the only one that makes me sad)
She is everything and more
The solemn hypnotic
My dahlia, bathed in possession
She is home to me
I get neverous, perversed when I see her it's worse
But the stress is astounding
It's now or never she's coming home
Forever
Oh (she's the only one that makes me sad)
Hard to say what caught my attention
Vixen crazy, aphid attraction
Carve my name in my face, to recognize
Such a pheromone cult to terrorize
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
(yeah!)
I'm a slave, and I am a master
No restraints and, unchecked collectors
I exist through my need, to self-oblige
She is something in me, that I despise
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
She isn't real!
I can't make her real!
She isn't real!
I can't make her real!
(she isn't real, I can't make her real)
(she isn't real, I can't make her real)
Of past fatalaties

"She seemed dressed in all the rings of past fatalities, so fragile yet so devious... She continues to see it"
In this line for example, she knows what she is to him... She knows and she uses that power...
"Climatic hands that press her temples and my chest, enter the night that she came home... Forever"
She's his, because he's making her be his, making her stay by his side, and even when she knows she's powerful to him, she continues to reject him... Her hands on her head for pain, her hands in his chest indicating sexual actions or closeness to her... She is his and there is nothing more either of them can do, because he is very likely to be addicted to her and she can't escape him....
"Hard to say what caught my attention, fixed and crazy aphid attraction, carve my name in my face to recognize... Such a pheromone cult to terrorize..."
Well, the carve my name in my face to recognize apparently means that he's losong sight of what he is, and what better way to know who you are (unnless you're Dracula) than carving your own name in your forehead... Face...
That's all for now
if you watch the film clip and really listen you will see she has her own personal world, her own reality.
the song is clearly from the males point of view, his love for her "My Dahlia, you're bathed in posession
She is home to me", even though she has schizophrenia. and he has to watch her slowly slip away and withdraw into her own little reality. but he thinks he can save her "I get neverous, perverse when I see her its worse. But the stress is astounding. It's now or never she's coming home. Forever."
but at the same time his trying not to let it get to him and affect him. "I won't let this build up inside of me". and finally he realises he cant do anything, he doesnt want to give up but no matter how hard he tries he cant bring her back, he just has to sit and watch as she becomes (for lack of a better word) insane. i also believe this is probably an experience a member of the band has had to go through, to love this woman who no longer knows you even exist...
"SHE ISN'T REAL!
I CAN'T MAKE HER REAL!
SHE ISN'T REAL!
I CAN'T MAKE HER REAL!
(She isn't real, I can't make her real)
(She isn't real, I can't make her real) "
The first time I listened to vermilion 1 and 2 I thought only 2 things would make sense: either it's his imaginary perfect soulmate or someone he loved very much and lost(died).
I didn't fully understand until I saw the videos where, in the first, she is a ghost wandering the city and in the second she is a corpse rising up in the air and coming back down.
This pretty much makes it clear on what this song is about: his dead soulmate.
Now as to what each verse means, I'll leave that to someone with more literary talent.
