Your neighbors were screaming
I don't have a key for downstairs
So I punched all the buzzers hoping you wouldn't be there
And now my head's hurting
You say I always get my own way
But you were in the shower when I got there
And I'd have wanted to stay, but I got nothing to say

You were so beautiful before today
And then I heard what you say, man, that was ugly

The Moschino bra you bought me last Christmas
(Put it in the box, put it in the box)
Frank's in there and I don't care
(Put it in the box, put it in the box)
Just take it
Take the box
Take the box

I came home this evening and nothing felt like how it should be
I feel like writing you a letter but that is not me, you know me
Feel so fucking angry, don't wanna be reminded of you
But when I left my shit in your kitchen
I said goodbye to your bedroom that smelled of you

Mr. False Pretense, you don't make sense
I just don't know you
But you make me cry, where's my kiss goodbye?
I think I love you

The Moschino bra you bought me last Christmas
(Put it in the box, put it in the box)
Frank's in there, I don't care
(Put it in the box, put it in the box)
Now take it
Take the box
Just take it, take it
Take the box
And now just take
Take the box
Take the box

Frank as in Frank Sinatra, who Amy named her first album after. Im assuming its a cd he bought her. 'Take the box' the box whihc is full of the things he bought her in their realtionship and now she isnt with him any more she doesnt want these things

she punched the buzzer hoping he wouldnt be there becauseit sounds like she is drunk and doesnt have control of what she is doing. The neighbours are screaming because shes punching all the buzzers trying to get into her boy friends flat.

the song is baout a bad break up where the girl keeps going back and the man finnaly ruins her 'you were so beautiful before today and then i heard what you say'

the arrangement of the lyrics tells the story chronologically from the break up up to her acceptnace of whats going on, him taking the box is cartharsis of her riding herself of this man.

lyrics are a bit wrong 'I said goodbye to your bedroom that smelled of you'

remindes me of a break up when i never knew what was enough and you go back again and againn until a final remark from the man in subject makes you angry and upset. well thats what happed to me.

For everyone confused about the "Frank" reference, I'll be happy to clear it up as I'm a huge fan of Amy Winehouse.

She named her album "Frank" after her favorite jazz singer Frank Sinatra (one of my other favorites!). As a child, her father, Mitch, would always sing her Frank Sinatra songs, which lead to her favoritism (besides his amazing musical talent) of him. As you can already tell, her reference to "Frank's in there, I don't care" is again, another reference to Frank Sinatra's CD's she put in the box that she received from an ex, which the song is about. The dog has no correlation with this song, just was a part of the album cover.

Also, if you're confused on this "box", it's simply a "break-up box"; a box in which we put the memories of our ex (whether objects, letters, etc) into to forget about then and move on.

This is one of my favourite songs on the album. Not only are the lyrics heartfelt, the music is slow and soulful. The line “you made me cry with your kiss goodbye, I think I love you” is so painful. Sometimes I don’t know how artists let us in and tell us secrets about their lives that are so close to them.

I love this song. The sound is so sultry, but the lyrics are really nice, and true.

Great song, her voice is "reminiscent" of Billie Holidays. She looks beautiful in this particular performance of this song; youtube.com/watch

One of my fav Amy Winehouse songs. The lyrics are pretty much about a break up and how you still can be in love with someone. I love the lines

"Mr False Pretence, you don’t make sense I just don’t know you But you make me cry, where’s my kiss goodbye? I think I love you"

a bit how i am feeling, I wanna tell my ex that i think i still love him, i cant tell him face to face because i know he will just say something rude to me before i get the chance. and i am too stubborn to write a letter pouring out my feelings. the goodbye we shared wasnt enough for closure, but loving enough for a good memory. i have his gifts he has given me hidden around my room, because i dont want to get rid of them, but i cant bear to see them. Probably the best idea to give him his shit back in a box. lol. this song really means a lot

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
