Lyrics for Baba O'Riley (Who cover) as interpreted by imilktjesussnipples

Baba O'Riley (Who cover) Lyrics
Out here in the fields oh
I fight for my meals
I get my back into my music
I don't need to fight
To prove I'm right
I don't need to be

Don't cry
Don't grab your wallet
It's only major-label wasteland

This song was played at least once (1991.12.07) in Europe during the 1991 winter tour. Cobain (drums) and Grohl (guitar) switched places, but Novoselic remained on bass. Grohl sang most of the song, until Novoselic performed the final verse.

It's a Who cover with switched lyrics.

If you guys have heard the recorded performance you could barely understand the lyrics.

I never want to hear this song. It'll ruin my Who experience cause I'm not a fan of Nirvana at all. I almost despise them. They are soo overrated it's not even funny.

Then why bother wasting your time telling us how overrated you think they are?

Ketchup said it.

It's great that kurt wasn't always the one on guitar and stuff. Mainly because it makes nirvana more "yellow" as I like to call it. If you see things and view things in different colours, you'll understand what I mean.

Kurt also says at the end of this song, "I hope I die before I turn into Pete Townshend."

He also wrote that in his journal. So that might be why Townshend was bitching about him.

it's the first verse of baba o'reilly, a song about teenage rebellion, plus a fragment of another that he rewrote to comment on corporate rock crap.

what he meant about turning into townshend is that he didn't want to go from being part of an original and vibrant band like nirvana and the who started out as, to the crappy middle-if-the-road corporate rock peddler townshend turned into. unfortunately kurt never got the chance.

He died before he became pete townshend.
Anyways I like the nirvana version. I don't like the keyboard in the who version

This is sort of a joke. That's why Cobain and Grohl switched places.

But he isn't paying respect to the Who. He's complaining about cooperate rock--including the Who.

"I hope I die before I become Pete Townsend" comes from the Who song "My Generation":

"I hope I die before I get old".

Cobain in his journals joked about becomming old, bald, fat, and still trying to rock.

I heard it all, and Pete Townshend probably feels the same way about Kurt.Kurt shouldn't even be talking since the who are more talented in lyrics and playing their instruments than Nirvana. I've listened to Rape Me, Come As You Are, and Teen Spirit and they alll sound the saame! (not the fun way the Ramones do it) During the performance why did they sound like System of A Down?

Paul...I totaly agree with you. Nirvana were not groundbreaking or original like everybody else seem to think. I've read the "brilliant lyrics" of Cobain and to me they're mindless. And to those saying that the Who are a corporate band or that they've sold out. I ask you this, how? Just because they've been around for more than 20 years and are still making music? How is doing what you love selling out?

Strangely enough I am a huge Nirvana fan and also am starting to get into The Who...

Just to be fair and unfair at the same time.....numbernine, I cant help but notice that you said this......

"And to those saying that the Who are a corporate band or that they've sold out. I ask you this, how? Just because they've been around for more than 20 years and are still making music? "

Dont you think it's Ironic that The Who havent even really wrote anything new since the early eighties?

that sounds more like a band that hasnt been around for more than twenty years rather than a band that has been around for more than twenty years....

Just playing.....

I actually like The Who..... that's why i was intrigued when I saw this ......and it wasnt Limp Bizkit's cover that got me into them..... it was Pearl Jam...... Vedder Idolizes Townsend to the point where he even backmasks a song about him....
(Pearl Jam - Pry, To) Apparently Pete Townsend merits mention as having saved Eddie's Life!!!

Now after hearing some pretty cool songs just off of "the Ultimate Collection" I decided that The Who kick some serious ass......

but as far as Lyrical depth you need not look any farther than Heart Shaped Box, Dumb, Pennyroyal Tea, In Bloom or most any other Nirvana Song to see Cobain's Lyrical mastery.... Believe me he is far from mindless........... HSB is a Twisted song that can specifically mean so many things...

All in all in my humble opinion.......

The Who and Nirvana both soar in their own aspect....... Nirvana was superior when it came to expressing raw intensity and anger and with writing cryptic lyrics....

While The Who were more apt to play to the masses.... not neccesarily because the masses were blindly shown The Who like sheep to water...... but because The Who spoke for a generation....... My Generation...... Duh guys....... The Who definately started out with the defy the system menatlity..... but when their generation abandoned it's various causes after Vietnam and watergate they really had no choice but to settle down.... who were they gonna play for?

That is my opinion...... I generally like Nirvana more than The Who because I am more familiar with Nirvana........ and I think i can relate more with Kurt Cobain than Pete Townsend........ but I can probably relate more with Vedder than Cobain......

thanks for the read......

Oh yeah...... I think Dave Grohl would own this song..... I am surprised the Foos havent perfomed their own little "cover" his voice might even have been too powerful too overbearing......

Just a funny idea kurt and dave switching spots....

NO CODE 79-yeah, you're right the Who haven't had an album in I think 23 years. And Pete Towshend just postponed the next album...again. The Who have never had a new album in my lifetime so I'm a little pissed. I guess by what I meant by the Who still making music is this-to me a band being finished means that they can't play their instruments or sing on stage anymore and after seeing Roger and Pete at Live 8 to me proved that they were anything but finished.

To me, attitude in music just not exist before the Who, the Stones had a little anger but not really compared to the Who.

It's kind of wierd that you mentioned the whole generation thing because that's where Roger Daltrey thinks where the who started to crumble a little-Townshend stopped writing songs for his generation and tried to write songs for other generations. Big mistake.

I shouldn't have said that Cobain couldn't write songs, he can, the music's just not for me. Townshend and Cobain always reminded me of each other, maybe that's why Cobain despised him.

The Foo Fighters should cover a Who song-Dave's voice is suited to some songs.

Yeah..... that does suck..... but hey it's ok we can hold out.... can you seriously even try to fathom thinking what a whole new material, all new songs, brand spanking new album by the Who in 2005-06 is gonna sound like? it's honestly got me giddy as hell.....seriously forty years have elapsed since The Who have started writing music.... imagine all the......things they've experienced that they could write about.....

that is where some people say "ohhh but (insert random band not over the age of 30 here, I'll use pearl jam) is too old to really rock out and make good music..." and that is where i say "pearl jam kicks ass and suck" and proceed to kick them in the sack.... no not actually but i am just babbling

I honestly think people would be excited to hear a new Who album.... I am all for it and eagerly anticipate it....

Along with a Foo's cover of Baba O'reilly!

Yeah, new stuff should be awesome! Pete's been through a lot in the past 20 or so years...

I hate it when people say that old bands can no longer kick ass, I recently saw the stones in concert and let me tell you, they had more energy and rocked harder than all of the younger bands I've seen put together!
