Our words move aimlessly through
Empty city squares
Collecting into mobs and
Angry like their prayers
They breathe the air we
Fought to leave behind
This kind of blank adventure
Happens all the time
Because nobody knows the wreck of the soul
The way you do
We fought to find our thoughts
The runway walked us through
The swimsuit portion of the evening
Cancelled due to rain
The pageant's called again
You'll find this kind of blank adventure
Happens all the time
Because nobody knows the wreck of the soul
The way you do
Miss Teen Wordpower
So we float through the streets
Breathe city lights
Claims of the crown forgotten
So we float through the streets
Float through the streets
The way you do
Miss Teen Wordpower
Nobody knows the wreck of the soul
The way you do
Miss Teen Wordpower
Empty city squares
Collecting into mobs and
Angry like their prayers
They breathe the air we
Fought to leave behind
This kind of blank adventure
Happens all the time
Because nobody knows the wreck of the soul
The way you do
We fought to find our thoughts
The runway walked us through
The swimsuit portion of the evening
Cancelled due to rain
The pageant's called again
You'll find this kind of blank adventure
Happens all the time
Because nobody knows the wreck of the soul
The way you do
Miss Teen Wordpower
So we float through the streets
Breathe city lights
Claims of the crown forgotten
So we float through the streets
Float through the streets
The way you do
Miss Teen Wordpower
Nobody knows the wreck of the soul
The way you do
Miss Teen Wordpower

clearly part of the imagery involves somebody who lost a beauty contest and is bitter about it. but maybe losing the beauty conest is a metaphor for something else - like a failed relationship or sexual encounter. but it seems that the narrator of the song means to get over it but the subject of the song, who lost the contest, dwells in the despair.
but honestly i have no idea.
it seems like "miss teen wordpower" is having to deal with disappointment for the first time and the narrator is saying get used to it - "you'll find this kind of blank adventure
happens all the time" - quit feeling so sorry for yourself
"because nobody knows the wreck of the soul the way you do".
I would think that gossip wrecks souls. Also, she is "Miss Teen WORDpower". Gossip is using the power of words, and gossip is a very teenage thing to do. She may or may not be an actual pagent queen. I don't know. But she definitely gossips.
