In one single moment your whole life can turn 'round
I stand there for a minute staring straight into the ground
Looking to the left slightly then looking back down
World feels like its caved in, proper sorry frown
Please let me show you how we could only just be for us
I can change and I can grow or we can adjust
The wicked thing about us is we always have trust
We can even have an open relationship, if we must
I look at her, she stares almost straight back at me
But her eyes glaze over like she's looking straight through me
Then her eyes must have closed for what seems an eternity
When they opened up she's lookin' down at her feet

Dry your eyes mate
I know it's hard to take but her mind has been made up
There's plenty more fish in the sea
Dry your eyes mate
I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts
But you've got to walk away now, its over

So then I moved my hand off and down by my side, shaking
My life is crashing before my eyes
Turn the palm of my hand up to face the skies
Touched the bottom of her chin and let out a sigh
'Cause I can't imagine my life without you and me
There's things I can't imagine doing, things I can't imagine seeing
It weren't supposed to be easy, surely
Please please, I'm begging, please
She brings her hands up towards where my hands rested
She wraps her fingers 'round mine with the softness she's blessed with
She peels away my fingers looks at me and then gestures
By pushing my hand away to my chest from hers

Dry your eyes mate
I know it's hard to take but her mind has been made up
There's plenty more fish in the sea
Dry your eyes mate
I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts
But you've got to walk away now, its over

And I'm just standing there
I can't say a word
'Cause everything has just gone
I've got nothing
Absolutely nothing

Trying to pull her close out of bare desperation
Put my arms around her to try to change what she's saying
Put my head level with hers so she might engage in
Look into her eyes to make her listen again
I'm not gonna fuckin' just fuckin' leave it all now
'Cause you said it'd be forever and that was your vow
And your gonna let our things simply crash and fall down
Your well out of order now, this is well out of town
She pulls away, my arms that are tightly clamped around her waist
Gently pushes me back as she looks at me straight
Turns around so she's now got her back to my face
Takes one step forward, looks back and then walks away

Dry your eyes mate
I know it's hard to take but her mind has been made up
There's plenty more fish in the sea
Dry your eyes mate
I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts
But you've got to walk away now, its over

I know in the past I've found it hard to say
Telling you things but not telling straight
But the more I pull on your hand and say
The more you pull away

Dry your eyes mate
I know it's hard to take but her mind has been made up
There's plenty more fish in the sea
Dry your eyes mate
I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts
But you've got to walk away now

The funny thing is that anyone could say this song is exactly what they were going through, but it's not. This song, while taken out of context, is very poignant and inventive (Let's face it, he doesn't even talk about their relationship until the bridge, and even then it's just him. This whole song is mostly one wordless engagement between the two, with Mike describing physical actions, not words), it's even more powerful considering it's just one part of a concept album. This is everything it's come down to, the antithesis of "Wouldn't Have It Any Other Way", when he realizes that while she's amazing, he lost her and it's the course of the album's fault, from his behavior because of the grand going missing, from the argument in "Get Out of My House", to Scott's confession of Dan's betrayal.

If you sit down and listen to the entire album, and feel this character, you can't help but mist up when you hear "Dry Your Eyes." It's everything he worked for ending.
It's nice that the album doesn't end on that point, though, and goes into the Empty Cans negative-positive what-if, because he finally finds some sort of resolution in the fact that he is truly alone and "no one's really there fighting for you in the last garrison." And it's not cynical, it's hopeful.

The entire album is a transformation of character, and his development.

Superb song. I love the clarity of Mike's lyrics, especially these:

She brings her hand up towards where my hands rested She wraps her fingers round mine with the softness she's blessed with She peels away my fingers looks at me and then gestures By pushing my hand away to my chest, from hers

They're superb because it's not just rambling like most raps, every word means something.

The most important moments of my life have always felt as if time is moving in slowly. I remember every last detail because at the time, what i'm feeling and looking at is so important. That's what I feel like when I hear this song.

To me it's like he's playing and replaying each moment of the breakup in his head still holding out hope she will come back and looking for a clue in the breakup that will indicate she wants him back. But he has to admit that there's nothing in her actions during the breakup that suggests she can be convinced otherwise; she hasn't been mean or hurtful or anythign that would suggest she was just angry and upset and needs to cool down. Instead she has been gentle and soft in how she pulls away from him and all her physical actions in general suggest it's totally over.

He has to dry his eyes and move on. His pain and self pity won't make her come back.

    My Interpretation

I think the better thing about this song is that it just makes you feel worse when you're down, but the human instinct is to listen to really depressing songs when were in these situations!

It's sad because he's basically forcing himself to walk away from it all because he knows he has to, even though in the verses you can clearly tell this is the one thing he doesn't want.

"Trynna pull her close out of bare desperation Put my arms around her trynna change what she's saying Pull my head level with hers so she might engage in Look into her eyes to make her listen again I'm not going to fucking just fucking leave it all now Cuz you said it'd be forever and that was your vow And you're going to let our things simply crash and fall down? You're well out of order now, this is well out of town She pulls away my arms are tightly clamped round her waist Gently pushes me back as she looks at me straight Turns around so she's now got her back to my face Takes one step forward, looks back and then walks away"

This gestures he tells you she does just make it more powerful, because we've all had those desperate moments, where we practically beg the significant other to stay.

Ohh... now I'm in tears :/ lmao!

These words exactly describe how I'm feeling right now. I couldn't even put into words what I'm feeling, and it's amazing that he could. Every word of it is the truth, and it gives me solace knowing that someone else understands. Just like the previous comment, I cried when I heard it the first time...

Never knew Mike could sing- and so well. Its beautiful, showing the band's incredible versitility.

yup, I cried too. I think because everybody has gone through something similar, we can relate to it so easily.

It's simplicity makes it easier to connect with, as does the feeling that this man isn't a bling bling superstar, he's the bloke from down the road who you occasionally bump into in the cornershop.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
