In one single moment your whole life can turn around, I stand there for a minute staring straight into the ground.
Looking to the left slightly then looking back down the world feels like its caved in proper sorry frown.
Please let me show you how we could only just be for us, I can change and I can grow or we can adjust. The wicked thing about us is we always have trust.
We can even have an open relationship if we must.
I look at her, she stares almost straight back at me but her eyes glaze over like she's looking straight through me.
Then her eyes must have closed for what seems an eternity, when they opened up she's lookin down at her feet.

[Chorus]

Dry your eyes mate, I know it's hard to take but her mind has been made up.
There's plenty more fish in the sea.
Dry your eyes mate, I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts, but you've got to walk away now, its over.

So then I moved my hand off and down by my side, shaking, my life is crashing before my eyes.
I turn the palm of my hand up to face the skies, touched the bottom of her chin and let out a sigh.
Because I can't imagine my life without you and me, there's things I can't imagine doing, things I can't imagine seeing.
It weren't supposed to be easy, surely, please please, I'm begging, please.
She brings her hands up towards where my hands rested she wraps her fingers around mine with the softness she's blessed with.
She peels away my fingers looks at me and then gestures, by pushing my hand away to my chest from hers.

[Chorus]

Dry your eyes mate, I know it's hard to take but her mind has been made up.
There's plenty more fish in the sea.
Dry your eyes mate, I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts, but you've got to walk away now, its over.

And I'm just standing there.
I can't say a word.
'Cause everything has just gone.
I've got nothing.
Absolutely nothing.

Trying to pull her close out of bare desperation, put my arms around her to try to change what she's saying.
Put my head level with hers so she might engage in.
Look into her eyes to make her listen again, I'm not gonna fuckin' just fuckin' just leave it all now.
'cause you said it would be forever and that was your vow, and your gonna let our things simply crash and fall down.
Your well out of order now, this is well out of town.
She pulls away, my arms that are tightly clamped around her waist gently pushes me back as she looks at me straight.
Turns around so she's now got her back to my face, takes one step forward, looks back and then walks away.

[Chorus]

Dry your eyes mate, I know it's hard to take but her mind has been made up.
There's plenty more fish in the sea.
Dry your eyes mate, I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts, but you've got to walk away now, its over.

I know in the past I've found it hard to say, telling you things but not telling you straight. But the more I pull on your hand the more you pull away.

Dry your eyes mate, I know it's hard to take but her mind has been made up.
There's plenty more fish in the sea.
Dry your eyes mate, I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts, but you've got to walk away now.

My Opinion:You wouldn't of thought that Mike Skinner could make such an emotional masterpiece like this, but it really is a beautiful song.

So many people can relate it, especially "nice guys" who have been through the same. It's not only lads who play girls, it happens both ways.

General Comment:This whole album is incredible. Something I noticed on a recent listening was that in both this song and in "Could Well Be In", he talks about shifting his gaze away.

    "Could Well Be In"
Looked at the barman, wiping down again,
Looked at the football on the tv set,
Tryin' to look like I weren't just waitin' there
For her conversation to come to an end.

    "Dry Your Eyes"
I stand there for a minute staring straight into the ground
Looking to the left slightly then looking back down

In both the first time he meets this girl and the last time he'll ever see her, he isn't comfortable enough to look her in the eyes. I feel like this has to be intentional. Amazing attention to detail on Mike's part.

My Interpretation:I think the better thing about this song is that it just makes you feel worse when you're down, but the human instinct is to listen to really depressing songs when were in these situations!

It's sad because he's basically forcing himself to walk away from it all because he knows he has to, even though in the verses you can clearly tell this is the one thing he doesn't want.

"Trynna pull her close out of bare desperation
Put my arms around her trynna change what she's saying
Pull my head level with hers so she might engage in
Look into her eyes to make her listen again
I'm not going to fucking just fucking leave it all now
Cuz you said it'd be forever and that was your vow
And you're going to let our things simply crash and fall down?
You're well out of order now, this is well out of town
She pulls away my arms are tightly clamped round her waist
Gently pushes me back as she looks at me straight
Turns around so she's now got her back to my face
Takes one step forward, looks back and then walks away"

This gestures he tells you she does just make it more powerful, because we've all had those desperate moments, where we practically beg the significant other to stay.

Ohh... now I'm in tears :/ lmao!

General Comment:You know what? The more I listen to this song, the more I think it's not really about a break up at all, it's about those annoying friends who always try to trivialise your problems, thinking they can make things better with corny lines such as 'there's plenty more fish in the sea'.

General Comment:I've cried to this song so many times, I've lost track now. he's right, the only thing you can do about a situation like that is try to accept it and move on, even though your heart is breaking. Flag robbierampageeeon March 04, 2009   Link

General Comment:Me and the only girl i ever really felt like i could stay with her forever broke up the summer this came out. She had to move to France for a year in College. Neither of us wanted to really, dont think we could get back now. Still reminds me of it everytime i hear this song. Rough stuff.
