I won't try to explain what I cannot understand
It's a bird it's a plane it's a one night stand
If I only we could ride far enough
I'd forget you altogether
It's a bluff
There is no way I could not remember
don't ask me what I came here for
It is too delicate for words
I used to want to make you talk
Now I would rather you did not
I don't mind if you read while I'm coming
It's alright if you need the t.v.
To keep from noticing my mind going blank
What's the worst thing that could happen?
Is my back all that bad?
Strike the match and watch the doll come open
don't ask me what I want from you
It is not something you could purposely do
I used to want to make you mine
Now I have better things in mind...

Someone you've slept with and feel a little bit too much for. We're on a knife-edge- I feel like if I tell him how much I like him we'll stop being friends so I don't say anything. Plus I don't really know what I want from him and wish I could just forget about him, but can't...
...that's what this song is to me: scarily familiar.
I wonder whether the line "is my back all that bad?" refers to her leaving? Like her turning her back on this person? Just a guess, I don't know if that even fits.
^
That reminds me of the phrase " and no one cares if your back is bleeding, they'concerned of their hair receiding(...)" from Girl Anachronism.

I think this means she wants him to initiate their sexual encounters with foreplay (like a sensual massage for instance), and be more affectionate and loving.
strike the match and watch the doll come open
Strike the match and light a candle to set the mood. She wants romance and passion out of him, but he only sees her as a sexual object... essentially no different than a blow-up doll.
Like intoodeep said, her pleasure means nothing to him. He's taking what he can get out of her because she's offering it, though she's doing it in the hopes that other feelings will develop. It's the only way she can really be close to him at this point, and she too is taking what she can get out of him... even though it's tearing her up inside.
Sad song :(
Lovely though
Now she is sleeping with him, in what is really just an opportunity to get laid with the male, but for her it is an explosion of sexual tension. By casually fucking him, she is trying to prove to herself that he means nothing to her.
"If only we could ride far enough, I'd forget you altogether"- Here is an example of this. She is literally trying to screw herself into oblivion. The bit about her mind going blank refers to the same intentions. (I don't mean to sound crude :P)
This is one of the most melancholy, tragic songs I've heard in a while. It's about being so passionate about a person who chooses to pointedly ignore you.
Absolutely beautiful.
dont forget i dont need anyone x5
it stays with you all day.
i love the line
"if you need the TV to keep from noticing my mind
going blank
whats the worst thing that can happen"
Somehow reminds me of Nny/Devi, but that's not important.
& tragic.
