Wash away the thoughts inside
That keep my mind away from you
No more love and no more pride
And thoughts are all I have to do

Remember when it rained
I felt the ground and look up high
And called your name
Remember when it rained
In the darkness I remain

Tears of hope run down my skin
Tears for you that will not dry
They magnify the one within
And let the outside slowly die

Remember when it rained
I felt the ground and looked up high
And called your name
Remember when it rained
In the water I remain

Running down

General Comment:A friend recently turned me on to Josh. I played this song several times already today. The first time, even without listening to the lyrics that closely, the tears were literally 'running down' my face. It definitely is about loss - unsure about specifically what kind. All that really matters is what it signifies for me!

General Comment:Remember when it Rains is not the correct song title. This slight variation in tense usage can alter the meaning a bit. The correct title: Remember When it Rained. (as in past tense).
In my view, Groban is making reference to a time when the love and "pride" (confidence, security, at peace and feeling of being "on top of the world, I can do anything" a man feels when he has that area fulfilled)was present in his heart in abundance and poured into his heart and life - that moisturizes and replenishes a specific dry barrenness in the absence of love and companionship. He is remembering that time of "rain"....and then, with a twist of the meaning (clever), sheds a light on the now "down" side of the rain; as it has transitioned from a refreshing rush of love...to tears of loss and aloneness. Also a "drowning" in sorrow, so to speak; while making reference to remaining in the "dark" and "water"....and this sorrow and pain and still remaining gush of love (unrequited) now "running down" like the tears he feels inside as well as the external ones do. He is contrasting the experience of the "rain" in an allegorical form - before & then now. The love or friend is gone from that wonderful rain, yet, he remains behind in that love - still loving, still longing, but now alone in it with stormy darkness (signifies a dark time of pain & sadness, confusion) and the rush (running down) of sorrow and aloneness in that rain water. My take.

i see it as someone finally letting themself feel the pain of a bad situation, and the rain is washing away the grief that they feel.

My Interpretation:I believe he is singing about regret for something in his past and the process of spiritual re-birth. I think he is singing directly to God. Those of you who have had and are going through similar experiences might agree that his lyrics all point towards God.

General Comment:I never thought about the spiritual aspect of this song. It does make some sense, though. I've also heard that Josh wrote it about friendship, but I think it can apply to any relationship that was lost.

This is possibly my favorite song ever. It's completely beautiful, and it shows off Josh's voice like crazy when he sings it.

General Comment:only Christians so devout can turn this song into something so spiritual. I never thought of it that way. The song is just gorgeous and it makes it even more beautiful that it can be translated to suit anyone.

As looked at from the perspective of xUnbreakablex 's friend, this lyris can symbolize the crucificion of Jesus Crist.

General Comment:The first time I heard this song I thought of it as spiritual myself. To me, I see a person who has lived a life of sin and is stricken with quilt so much that it brings them to there knees for forgiveness. The rain signifies the washing away of an old life and the start of a new. "they magnify the one with in, let the outside slowly die"
