She eyes me like a Pisces when I am weak
I've been locked inside your Heart-Shaped box for weeks
I've been drawn into your magnet tar pit trap
I wish I could eat your cancer when you turn black
Hey
Wait
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Hey
Wait
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Meat-eating orchids forgive no one just yet
Cut myself on angel's hair and baby's breath
Broken hymen of your highness I'm left black
Throw down your umbilical noose so I can climb right back
Hey
Wait
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Hey
Wait
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
I've been locked inside your Heart-Shaped box for weeks
I've been drawn into your magnet tar pit trap
I wish I could eat your cancer when you turn black
Hey

Forever in debt to your priceless advice

As for the fact that they changed the song... erm... it's an acoustic version. The integrity of the song was left perfectly intact, they play the same notes, she sings the same notes, it's just acoustic and within Amy's range.
The actual song with full band etc. is obviously better, the point of this song wasn't to outdo anything. It's not on their mainstream albums, not being played on the radio. It's simply Amy Lee singing a lower range song over acoustic guitar, and it's amazing. That's all you need to think about.
For people interested in the meaning you might want to just hop over to the original version considering it's the same song ;)
PS - Don't think I'm bashing Nirvana fans: I'm one myself. =)
My whole theory for why people hate covers is because they heard the original first and they're used to that instead.
I really like this cover.
Also, you can't really compare Evanescence and Nirvana 'cause they have different sounds sort of... Anyway, I really like this cover. C:
But right now, this song seems to be about a Mother and child. The Mother controls her child and manipulates it to do her bidding, like a spider and its prey.
But I am not going to get into a battle of who's better, Evanescence or Nirvana. I am just going to comment on a song I heard without comparing it to the original.
I think it's the best cover song I've ever heard. I love Amy Lee's voice. My band has covered some Nirvana songs, and after hearing this, I now want to cover Heart-Shaped Box, because I know it's possible for a female vocalist to sing it and sound great.
Evanescence are the best band ever, in my opinion. They're not mainstream. They're Ambient Goth.
Anyway, I have no friggin' idea what this means, so I came on here...so much for that, huh?
I hope someone knows what this means...
I'll check the Nirvana version.
OH, BY THE WAY!
Evanescence remade Thoughtless by Korn, and I think it's great.
Seether remade Love Her from Kurt Kobain (Nirvana, people!) and it's a beautiful song. Shaun's voice helps him to pull it off as his own song, not Nirvana's remake.
