Lyrics for Doll is Mine as interpreted by Sepulchrave

Doll is Mine Lyrics
Mine is an act of love
Mine is a wish to solve
And mine is to sink by your side
You are to be amused
And you are never to be confused
In your first love
Your first time
Why a doll so they tell me
Cause she is mine
Faith and fully mine
I must say
This love hasn’t changed me
Cause I feel fine
Faith and fully mine

I must have seen too much skin
Much more than I needed to
And much more than I wanted to dream
I must have felt so much pain
It’s funny how some things do remain
It isn’t true that things do change
Isn’t it strange how pain remains
But don’t look sad cause it isn’t sad
Now that I have you to myself

This song is so brilliantly written. I love the guy's voice. And I especially love the part where the music fades after the first stanza, and the guitar comes back in with the pausing strumming. So good to me...

Uhhh....how many memories....But the lyric doesn't deserve the impressive, beautiful music. And because the music is so sad, the last verses don't make much sense :-). Anyway, a very interesting song.

I love this song. It was written so well and the music just matches the lyrics. His voice is just amazing, Blonde readhead...their music is just mindblowing

indeed it is a great song, 4 posts later here comes an opinon on what the song actually means... i may be taking this song title too literally but i think this song has to do with giving up on real lovers because they are dishonest and or just a pain in the ass, unlike a doll which is "faith and fully mine"... reminds me of the police song "be my girl"

For one thing, this song reminds me irresistably of "Fullmetal Alchemist" and I can't think why.

For another, I suspect it may be about "V." by Thomas Pynchon. In "V.," especially the chapter "V In Love," there's lots of stuff with fetishes and at one point a girl masturbates against a mannequin. Also, by the end of the book, V. herself is largely made of false parts, which would explain the "isn't it strange how pain remains?" -- as in, amputees have said that there is sometimes a phantom sensation, like an itch.

Perhaps it has to do with a non reciprocating lover that is so hard and cold she is like a doll.

okay. this is post bar comments. I am making a compilation for someone. Figured I should know what the songs ment.

This song over the course of 35 minutes has given too many meanings...

I have not looked the lyrics up on othr sites.
here's what I think...

I think this is song is about making a friend into a love. "sink by your side" " And much more than I wanted to dream "
the doll is ...a sex toy....

OR!
about dating someone because of thier beauty. being a doll. Just something pretty to look at ...no substance...
"And you are never to be confused "

and lastly...
it's about an older person dating a person way younger than themselves...with no experience.."in your first love, you're first time' 'so they tell me' is ridicule to which he responds 'Faith and fully mine '

I don't usually post. so...tell me I am wrong.

Two years and a half after my first comment on this song, I'm definitively a huge fan, of Blonde Redhead in general and this song in particular. I'm still not sure about the meaning but "Doll is mine" is utterly perfect, a masterpiece.

i think this song's about a guy who's fallen madly in love with this girl. so much, perhaps, that he's scaring her: "But don’t look sad cause it isn’t sad/Now that I have you to myself."

.....but i don't like that meaning/it's kinda sad. i didn't have this impression before i read the words. i actually felt this song portrayed my "first love" situation fairly accurately.....maybe even freakishly accurate......

damn good song. damn good.

I think this song is about a older man falling for a younger, inexpericenced person. A doll refers to the the youth of the girl and the line "cause shes mine, faith and fully mine" represents how he has control of her becuase of her naieveity.

The man sounds scarred by prevously relationships and heartbreak, which can be seen with "isn't it funny how pain remains".

The last verse is everything to the song with "Don't look so sad cause it isn't sad, now that I have you all to myself" shows how the young girl is unsatisfied with him as he pleads with her it isn't so sad that he has her all to himself.

Are you all hearing the music? It is so demented, so lost, so completely manic. There are two readings, in my opinion:

1. Our narrator, well, his "act of love" is taxidermy. IE preserving a lover or possibly even someone that never requited his love. There is a famous poem that describes an old woman who lies beside her dead husbands' remains, and in the poem, such a fact is implied by description of one side of the bed being sunken. "And mine is to sink by your side."

2. Our narrator's love has passed, or an unrequited lover, but he has fitted a doll in their likeness that he devotes the same affection to. The doll's expression never changes from amusement, "You are to be amused, and never to be confused". Our narrator has his sanity questioned by those he encounters, but he's fine, because his doll is "faith and fully mine".

Taxidermy, literally, moving skin. "I must have seen...too much skin. Much more, than I needed to..."

It’s funny how some things do remain
It isn’t true that things do change
Isn’t it strange how pain remains
But don’t look sad cause it isn’t sad
Now that I have you to myself

Though the flesh is preserved, he still feels pain for the loss.
