Lyrics for Give Unto Me as interpreted by SqueakyTheFreaky

Give Unto Me Lyrics
I've been watching you from a distance
The distance sees through your disguise
All I want from you is your hurting
I want to heal you
I want to save you from the dark

Give unto me your troubles
I'll endure your suffering
Place onto me your burden
I'll drink your deadly poison

Why should I care if they hurt you
Somehow it matters more to me
Than if I were hurting myself
Save you (save you)
I'll save you

Give unto me your troubles
I'll endure your suffering
Place onto me your burden
I'll drink your deadly poison

Fear not the flame of my love's candle
Let it be the sun in your world of darkness
Give unto me all that frightens you
I'll have your nightmares for you
If you sleep soundly

Give unto me your troubles
I'll endure your suffering
Place onto me your burden
I'll drink your deadly poison

Fear not the flame of my love's candle
Let it be the sun in your world of darkness
Give unto me all that frightens you
I'll have your nightmares for you
If you sleep soundly

Fear not the flame of my love's candle
Let it be the sun in your world of darknes

This is such a pretty song, yet so depressing. Is it true that this song was Amy and Ben's first song they wrote together?

The most underrated song by Evanescence. This song is what I listen to when I am at my darkest moments. Amy in the song takes on the voice of Jesus/God, speaking to someone who feels alone and worthless. The light in the darkness, the candle of security. I identify with this song so much bc in when I am in my darkest moments where I feel everything is against me God speaks to me and comforts me.

I think it's about someone who realizes just how much someone else is hurting and wants to help them, even if it means experiencing all their pain for themselves.
I have no idea what it has to do with god, but *shrugs*

haunting music, love the piano solo, beautiful and depressing at the same time. THis has nothing to do with god I don't know where you came up with that but Adularia has the generals down

I got it bc thats what it means to me, like its the voice of God saying that he will take my pain and suffering away and I cant hide from him. Just as Christ bore our sin with the cross, the song says, "Place onto me your burdens" but I also do see it as a love song. Its how I feel about the girl I like too.

To answer DyerMaker 21's question (that they asked like what, 8 months ago?) yes, this is one of the first songs Amy and Ben wrote together. This and Understanding got played on the local radio station a lot, and the rest is history.

This means to me that they love this person so much they would do anything, anything for them, to stop them from feeling any pain.

This song is so beautiful. Its talking about being so in love with someone and them not even knowing it. They would give up anythin for you and you barely even know them.

I really don't see this religiously, but as escence said, to each his own... I see this as being so obsessed with the person you love that you'd rather die than see them in pain. Or perhaps just being so depressed, you'd rather be hurt than see others in pain. It feels justified that way, as though you deserve to be hurt and they don't.

As I said though, to each his/her own. Music is meant to invoke emotion in you, to inspire ideas. You perceive it as you like, however it strikes a chord with your soul.

Outside is snowing ruinously
My lover plays at the piano a song
And the town lies in darkness
As if it is snowing in a cemetary

My lover plays a funeral march
And perplexed i wonder
Why would she play a funeral march...
And it is snowing as in a cemetary

She cries and on the keyboards fells
And groans, as fevered, heavily...
The piano dies in a discord...
And it is snowing as in a cemetary

I'm crying too and trembling
over her shoulders i spread her hair
Outside the town lies deserted
And it is snowing as in a cemetary

I really dont feel this song is about God in anyway. Its a person trying to take away someone else's pain away and they'll even take that persons pain so the one they love doesnt hurt anymore.

This song is so beautiful and soothing. When I learn the piano to this, I will serenade my loved ones with this song. \"Give Unto Me\" has a very deep meaning that I can relate to. It means, to me, loving a person so much that you see him/her hurting and all you want to do is take away their pain, even if it means placing it upon yourself. This is how I feel about my loved ones. That includes my family and the guy I have very deep feelings for.

However, in the lyrics posted here, I can only hear the \"Fear not the flame of my love\'s candle\" part at the end and a few times as it is whispered before the chorus. I don\'t hear the rest of that stuff:

\"Give unto me all that frightens you
I\'ll have your nightmares for you
If you sleep soundly\"

Where is that in the song...? I never heard it.

Its obvious that this song is her speaking for Christ.

Jesus said Come to me all you that labor, and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meak and lowly, and you will find rest unto your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burdens are light.

Its obvious that these lyrics come from those words of Christ.

if you would like to look those words up in the bible, it is Matthew 11:29-31

(yay this is my first comment...)
Yeah I think this song is pretty easy to understand, but still holds a lot of depth and meaning...
I can relate to this one too! But not with a boyfriend or anything, more of just the world, for some reason, no matter how much I hate being around people, I can't bear to see them in pain, even the people I don't know. I mean, call me crazy, but I've cried over people who I don't even know, that live even in different states than me. If I had one wish, it would be to just take everyone else's pain away, and make everyone really, truly happy, even if that meant giving my life or enduring all their pain myself... I'm not sure why, but I would give anything to do that. Other people's pain is my pain, but they don't know that... I just want everyone to be happy... Is that weird? Uhh oh well... Yeah and I agree that everyone has their own opinion, I think that a song doesn't necessarily have just one meaning, I think they have a different meaning for everyone. And besides, we'll never really know what the song was "supposed" to mean, because we didn't write it... But whatever, like escence said, to each his/her own.
Wow, this is a long post... oh well...
Anyways, good song, awesome band.

I just took a quiz over at Quizilla (Which Evanescence song are you?), and this was my outcome.
I know how she feels. My husband is in a lot of pain (more physical, less mental, but pain nonetheless), and I feel the way she does, that I would do anything to heal him and help him feel better. This is really the first Evanescence song that I've been able to identify with, even though I haven't heard it yet. But I'll bet it's beautiful...
