Feeling down n' dirty, feeling kinda mean
I've been from one to another extreme
This time I had a good time, ain't got time to wait
I want to stick around till I can't see straight

Fill my eyes with that double vision, no disguise for that double vision
Ooh, when it gets through to me, it's always new to me
My double vision gets the best of me

Never do more than I really need
My mind is racing, but my body's in the lead
Tonight's the night, I'm gonna push it to the limit
I live all of my years in a single minute

Fill my eyes with that double vision, no disguise for that double vision
Ooh, when it gets through to me, it's always new to me
My double vision always seems to get the best of me, the best of me, yeah

Ooh, double vision, I need my double vision
It takes me out of my head, takin' me out of my head
I get my double vision, oh, seeing double double
Oh, I have double vision, (oh double vision) yeah
Oh I'm getting double vision

With all due respect, I dont think anyone grasped the undermeanings of the song .. Thats my explanation:

"Feeling down n' dirty, feeling kinda mean"

-He is refering to a problem induced feeling ...

"I've been from one to another extreme"

-That is, his views, opinions, excitements, view of life all changes dramatically.... One moment he is on the top of the world, the other moment he's on the other bank ... these are the two contradictory extreme feelings

"This time I had a good time, ain't got time to wait"

-He says, Now I am in the good feeling side ... and I would not waste any minute ... because it could all vanish into the blues ...

"I want to stick around till I can't see straight"

-I want to enjoy every single moment while am on the goood bank ... I want to make the best use of it until .. I switch ... and can see straight no more

"Fill my eyes with that double vision, no disguise for that double vision"

-Regardless, I will (see things) the way I do -i think referring to the bad feeling - ... I wont disguise just because of what I suffer

"Ooh, when it gets through to me, it's always new to me"

-And when I get it ..myself becomes a stranger to me -apparently he cant cope with it- I feel like am a new person, as I referred with new visions, dreams, opinions, views, ... etc ...

"My double vision gets the best of me"

-My double vision: the two different views that lives in me are quit an obstacle ... it gets the best of me ...

"Never do more than I really need"

He is capable, ambitious, know-it-all, but he doesn't do more than he needs (live a normal life is one thing he doesnt need - or cant have) ... He works to get enough to fulfil his pleasure seeking self ...

My mind is racing, but my body's in the lead -An exquisite line that demonestrate the battle between ones logic & emotions ..

Tonight's the night, I'm gonna push it to the limit I live all of my years in a single minute -Quite self-explanatory .. time to seek pleasure and live to the max .. notice how the tune even change to a more live one

Fill my eyes with that double vision, no disguise for that double vision Ooh, when it gets through to me, it's always new to me My double vision always seems to get the best of me, the best of me, yeah

Ooh, double vision, I need my double vision It takes me out of my head, takin' me out of my head I get my double vision, oh, seeing double double Oh, I have double vision, yeah, I'm getting double vision

It is a very sad self-reflective song ... about the instable life of many around us ... that lives moments in heaven and moments in hell within a blink of an eye..

It's about someone living on the edge. He lives his life to party and only for partying's sake. But he claims to know his limit--"Never do more than I, I really need". The singer never tells us what leads him to the partying or what pain he is trying to quench. Only that he has a lust to party.

This song is about partying hard and drinking so much your vision becomes blurry.

The band wrote this after seeing New York Rangers goalie John Davidson get knocked out during the 1977 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Davidson is now a popular hockey analyst for ABC Sports. The changed it around to talk about being at a party.

Foreigner was the first concert I ever went to. I was in the beer garden before the show, and I was pretty drunk, when all of a sudden I hear this song. I thought it was befitting given my current state.

    My Interpretation

He parties way too much for his own good. Double vision would be what he sees when he gets hammered. He wants to stop but doesn't for the party.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

American Town
