I think this song is about a girl who loved a guy that manipulated her to no ends, and didnt really want anything to do with her. Now she's moving on, and he's trying to get with her, and she's nu uh. Hindsight is always 20/20, and looking back, she sees how he manipulated her. And she's just not having it. Awesome song. I can totally relate.

I heard somewhere that this song (along with Taking Over Me) is about John's addiction to Eggo waffles. There's my meaning right there! (j/k)
I think this song is about becoming so in love with someone that a person doesn't even know who they are. All the person knows is that the other person should belong to them. But then the person takes a step back and realizes that the love was misleading.
I agree with Everybody's Fool, too. :-)

Hmm, maybe I should stop showing my inner geek...

I positively WORSHIP the vocal layering in this song, it's so beautiful!! The ethereal sound makes it rate really high among my obsessions! The lyrics aren't exactly complicated, IMO. But I rave over the vocals.

Lyric corrections (as always ^_^): "For so long I don't even know why now" instead of "by now". Aaand that's it. Props to you for being one of the few people on here to post a good version of the lyrics =).

My fav line is "now that I've given up on you defiently you see me walking away." it applies to me so much. this guy i loved i never paid attention to me until the times when i'd stop talking to him then he'd be nice. i love how much it applies to my relationship with him.

You like/love someone so much, and you want to be with him so much. Maybe a point in time you give up, and somehow he/she starts to notice you. Like forever you were ignored, and now you aren\'t.

Maybe she got involved with him for awhile. A relationship or a friendship of some sort. It ended, and she \"walks away\" not knowing that he had put her in some much pain in his little game. Like a relisation that the relationship wasn\'t right she/he thought it was---finding out the truth.

At first, she thought she knew who he was. But she finds out it wasn\'t the truth, and as he changes she slowly slips away from what she used to me. And he knew something--that this might happen or he might change.

After the relationship, she sees the TRUTH. Maybe she had time to think, or maybe something that ended it made her realise. She knows what she is, what he does and the game he loves to play. And now she doesn\'t want to \"play\". (Even thought he might want to again.)

She probably feels she is still lost in his game/ways. Hence the \"Forever Gone, Forever You\".

I can relate. I was in this [Long Distance] relationship for almost three years, to have it end all of the sudden. He dumped me for some girl. who he dumped him twice. The final time after they found themselves in \"bed\" (you know what I mean). Now he is crawling back to me, while I have given up saving this relationship. But he now \"notices\" me and as if the month had never happened. As if he never had fallen out of love with me.

And I stil feel \"chained\" to him somehow. He still exists in my memories, even thought I know he\'s verbal abusive to a point and he is obvious he has played me to be some sort of a desperate loser.

I love this song. This was one of the very first Evanescence songs i heard. To me its a woman who is in a relationship where she is being treated very unfairly and one day regains the streangth to tell walk away because he is just not worth it.

I love this song so much. It defintily helped me through my painful break up with my now ex. I loved him so much, but now I know that it couldn't have been love. This song is so raw and real, and I could feel the pain Amy felt when she was singing. i cry to this song. It just touches home for me.

i guess it does make sense with the waffles ^_^ hes trying to give up on them and hes seeing how unhealthy they are and what they are doing to him rofl "forever gone, forever you" could mean that the waffles are gone forever and he wont eat them again.

it could be true! people write songs about weird thing some times. like "snow white queen" by evanescence, she said they got the name from an online screan name "snow white" but thats just what i heard

ps. WAFFLES!!!!!! im a bit addicted to them too XD
