its a beautiful song... i think that its about a girl (possibly amy) who is in a relationship with a guy who she loves, but she doesnt feel like he gives her back the love she deserves. so she thinks that if she was ever gone he wouldnt cry or miss her, he would just get that feeling you get when you know youve forgotten something (the line: barely conscious youll say to no one// isnt something missing?)

Possibly the most powerful lyric. It's all about wanting recognition and wanting to be loved, but having it ripped away and not being loved in return. Pretty much what everyone else said.

It sounds like it's about waking up to the fact that a person you care deeply for doesn't love you... It's really sad, and it's one of my favorites by evanescence.

i agree with xXBrokenXx that what I think it is. Eveytime I'm yelled at by my parents for no absolute reason or won't listen to what I have to say or how I feel this song and the song "Home" by three days grace relates.

"Well i do believe this song was written about me.

I was abused my a parent when i was young, and the other parent didnt think i exhisted. And oh how i longed for my parents to love me, i wanted them to notice me, so i didnt feel like glass- almost invisible and fragile.

This song is one of my favourites, and the 1st time i heard it, i cried.

I love evanescence, all their songs realate to my depressing life. "

-you- And you just have to include : -Depressing- life. -_- stop bein an emo kid about it. I've got dying parents and I'm the happiest person out of my group of friends (jumpping around as if I had 500 cups of coffee i might add =D)

In my perspective, it's about not feeling noticed or cared about by, not just parents or boyfriend or whatever, but by anyone in general.

^meaning that if she were to go away, no one would care (note that I said "she". I think this song is about Amy's troubles).

Personally, this song is about friendship, but I think it can be about any kind of relationship. Like, you know, sometimes there is some one (or several someones) who is SO important to you, like your entire world, but you feel like there's no room in their heart for YOU...which makes you feel stupid and sad and used. To me that's what this song is about. Feeling like you are so unimportant that if something were ever to happen to you that special person or persons would barely look up, that's how little they would notice, that's how little it would matter to them. It's the feeling of just wanting to be loved...putting love out there and hoping it will be returned and then being hit with the sad realization that it isn't. It's the realization that this important bond which you thought you shared is all a lie.

to me this song is about someone who lives in a home where they feel unnoticed and neglected. They test this theory by leaving home, but they've left someone significant behind them; "..please forgive me but i won't be home again.." and theyre not sure if this person will even miss them, as states in the first verse.
They feel like they've been forgotten and like they're insignificant and don't think anyone misses them so they dont bother coming home.
"Though id die to know you love me im all alone isnt someone missing me?"
they would even go as far as trying to kill themselves to get their attention and see if they cared but they know either way they're going to be alone. But they continue to ask the questions is anyone missing them, is anyone noticing that they're missing

I can really get into demonstration on this one. I believe this is from a point of veiw from a spirit or ghost, because they had died, but no one really cared. Like, she had to sacrifice herself, or she was murdered. She's wondering if anywone would miss her, then one day, someone would think something/someone is missing, but they don't realize anything. Its a very sad song, and it fits me in some predicaments. :/

I have often felt this way about one person in particular, or everyone around me, and wondered if I died would they suddenly wake up and say "Isn't something missing?"

I mostly agree with the other comments so not much more to say

I can relate to the song... I think it's all about someone who doesn't feel loved or cared... and his/her lover isn't really interested in the relationship anyway..."so what if I leave? what if I die?" the neglected person asks, and then answers him/herself "he/she won't care, I could die just to have some of his/her attention..." pretty good... love evanescence

I think it's sung from the point of view of Jesus Christ, to someone who has lost faith in him.

Jesus is saying "I will leave you as you wish, but see how far you get without my guidance".

"You forgot me long ago. Am I that unimportant? Am I so insignificant?"

More emphasis on how much this person has lost faith in him.

Though I'd die to know you love me
I'm all alone."

Even though he's given his life, the greatest sacrifice ever, for this person, he's still not receiving any love from them.

"And if I bleed, I'll bleed
Knowing you don't care."

That's what I'm pretty sure this song is about.

I completely agree with dark artist. 'Even though im the sacrifice' is a dead give away. I cant interpret that lyric any other way. Also, the whispering convinced me. What i hear is 'can you stop the fire? can you stand the fire? you cant stop the fire. you wont say the words.'
Makes perfect sense to me!

Yeah, the whispers are also interesting, "You won't stand to fight her, you won't say the words..."

I think this 'her' and 'she' in Evanescence songs is a reference to the devil. The ultimate evil seems to be viewed as female, also in the song Whisper,

"She beckons me, shall I give in?"

This song makes me think about a girl whose (parent or boyfriend) have an addiction (drogs or alcohol) and she tried to help them but canīt do it anymore and leaves.

something i feel a lot of people look past is

i feel the obviousness behind her leaving because she is being neglected, but why? it sounds like this person is stuck in addiction/distraction to the point where they are completely internal and she is suffering because of this.

Here's what I think:
A girl was on the wrong path- suicidal or something- and she loved her boyfrien so she promised him she'd change- but then she found out that he was just as bad (I know what you do to yourself) but her love for him was still more important. Then something hapened- maybe she had to move away- and away from him she thought she could do whatever she wanted because he couldn't see- but she still felt bound to keep her promises to him as proof to her self that she really loves him, because if she hadn't loved him she never would have promised to begin with.The first verse (Please, please forgive me, but...maybe someday...) mans that if she did kill herself, he would never know- (also "and if I bleed, I'll bleed, knowing you don't care). Finally, "And if I sleep just to dream of you, I'll wake without you there"- shes living the way she doesn't want to (if she wants to live at all!) so she still thinks she has love, but he can't be there with her anyway.

Phew... thats long Ok thats just my interpretation, and it applies to me- except for me it was cutting myself and HE went to collage, and I know I'm still in love thats the only reason I stopped.

The only line that I don't get is 'Can you stand to fight her' unless 'her' refers to temptation or something... The rest of that makes sense- "can you stop the fire"- can you give up love to do what you want.

Maybe Amy had promised a boyfriend that she would never try to kill herself or take drugs- and then the presures of life made it tempting... or maybe he promised her... that would explain the 'Can you stan to fight her'

This song reminds me so much of one of my stories it's not even funny.

This line is so powerful to me...I almost cried the first time I heard this song...it gives me a lot of inspiration for my story.

I basically agree with everyone here; either it's a boyfriend not caring about the girl, or her parents neglecting her. It's a cruel world we live in, I'm afraid...

wow- this song is incredibly powerful... her voice, i swear amy lee is an angel sent from heaven... she is so gifted! this song reminds me half of me and half of my best friend... the bit where she sings, if i sleep just to dream of you, and wake without you there... that is exactly what i do... sniff- heartbreak- it hurts... ALOT lol i love evanescence 4 eva!!!
