yeah, I'm in this place right now with one of my friends. I was so nice to her and she didn't even notice. I up and left her and then her boyfriend dumped her one day and she called me that night at like 2 am crying about how she had nothing and that she was sorry she totally ignored me and I just hung up on her.

This song is very special to me....I'm not sure why. I listen to it like everyday. I think this song is clearly about a girl's lover completly forgot about her.

"Please, please forgive me.
But I won't be home again"

This line expresses that she ran away for good.

"Maybe someday you'll have woke up,
and, barely conscious, you'll say to no one: 'Isn't something missing?"

This line expresses that the woman ran away long ago, and he finally realized some"thing" was missing.

"You won't cry for my abscence I know,
you forgot me long ago......"

This is my favorite line in the song, and I think it tells that the woman was forgot by her lover a little TOO long ago. It's really sad, but beautiful.

"Isn't something missing?
Isn't someone missing me....?"

Obviously, this line expressses that no one misses that woman, even though she's gone, and has no home.

"Even though I'm the sacrifice,
you won't try for me, not now.
Though I'd die to know you love me,
I'm all alone....."

The woman has no home, she's completly lost. I still haven't figured out about the "sacrifice" thing.

This obviously means that the woman still adores the man, even though she'll never see him again.

i personally think it's about a girl who has very low self-esteem, wanting to prove that her boyfriend does love her in the most final way. she kills herself, believing that if he truly loved her, he would come. Realising he's not coming, she begs for forgiveness, because she won't be coming home. she slowly dies, wondering if someone misses her.
ok, this kinda sucks, but its my two cents.

i think the sacrafice is a desperate thing. like,i'll give up anything for a moment with her love. and the sacrafice,is,apparently,that she'll give herself for that moment. anything to get her love to look her way.

and jen5, your interpretation isn't the obvious one everyone thinks of- i thought so too-i agree with the first comment - but your interpretation doesn't suck- in fact it's a really good interpretation. it's very creative-and could be it. but songs also,i think,are meant for us to interpret sometimes,too. and i like your interpretation.

i agree with Tin. this song sounds like its from the view of someone who committed suicide and is looking down on where s/he lived. she then shes that his/her lover is about to do the same thing and that others dont notice that shes gone.

I love this song and is one of my favourites by evanescence (besides breathe no more and whisper) i agree with a lot of the previous people and personally think it's about running away from home ps cut and bleeding thank you for figuring out the whispering they sound right

Sorry but I don't agree on the whipering part.
Mainly because she says please a couple of times. Maybe the version you have is the Exodus version but i'm thinkin gof the Anywhere But Home version.

K cut and bleeding, i double checked it, put my stereo up as loud as it could go :-P as always, and this is what I got.

can you stop the fires
can you (some word starting with s, one syllable) plesae
you can't stand/stop please
you will say, please please

and that last line is an almost certainty.

Yeah,but if you listen carefully Amy repeats the word "please" about 8 times and I don't think it actually has anything to do with the rest of the whispering,you know?I think it's it's for the part where she sings "please,please forgive me but I wont be home again" and sort of a "special effect",if you will.So I don't think that "please" is how the sentances end.Anyway,it'll probably remain a mystery

I think this song is about loving someone that doesn't love you back. He only sees her as a friend, and not a very important one at that. She is in pain and cares for him a lot, but he won't even give her a second glance. She wishes he thinks of her as much as she thinks of him... So she will leave, end their friendship... but knowing him, he will barely notice and that pains her the most. That he never really acknowledged her presence.

I can relate to this song a lot, not too long ago I really liked a guy friend, but it never worked out, and I kept feeling really sad about it. I felt that if I wasn't around, no one would notice - HE wouldn't notice.
