Lyrics for Missing as interpreted by Happy_Bunny

Missing Lyrics
Please, please forgive me,
But I won't be home again.
Maybe someday you'll look up,
And, barely conscious, you'll say to no one:
"Isn't something missing?"

You won't cry for my absence, I know
You forgot me long ago.
Am I that unimportant...?
Am I so insignificant...?
Isn't something missing?
Isn't someone missing me?

[CHORUS]
Even though I'm the sacrifice,
You won't try for me, not now.
Though I'd die to know you love me,
I'm all alone.
Isn't someone missing me?

Please, please forgive me,
But I won't be home again.
I know what you do to yourself,
Breathe deep and cry out:
"Isn't something missing?
Isn't someone missing me?"

[CHORUS]

And if I bleed, I'll bleed,
Knowing you don't care.
And if I sleep just to dream of you
And wake without you there,
Isn't something missing?
Isn't something...

[CHORUS]

Missing is about a girl who has been badly wronged by a guy in which she loved. ANd is now wagering with herself the fact of leaving him and it all behind. She still in heart and harsh reality loves this man. Yet in truth can not be with him anymore. She has put up with the pain long enough. Yet she is also talking about takeing her own life by suciede. She feels like she is not loved by no one, all alone, lost in a world that can no longer be hers. She is twisted in morbid caos. And left to wonder if she can escape the pain she is feeling. Only wishing in heart someone can reach out to her and pull her back from the world she is in. The pian that lives inside her mind of so many long lost feelings of her past. How she would give anything for just one ounce of love and compassion. Yet in it all she wakes up to a world where there is nothing more than hate, anger, and creed. She is living in a dream yet knowing the reality that it in front of her. Mainly she is just in a war with herself and her emotions. She can't find her way out.. and yet the best way for her at the time looks to be suciede. She wants to escape that pain and those hardened feelings. She wants to let it all go. And only pray for the moment when someone may see the hurt that lies within. And save her from her darkened voyage yet to come!!

I think the meaning of this song is based around the need for some sort of recognition in a relationship. The author is giving out a cry for help to a lover/friend. Its about waking up to realise that the person you love may not love you. Even though you love them with all your heart they don't seem to notice anymore. The author has had enough and is leaving, but is hopeful that one day her lover will realise what they let go. But for now it is like he/she doesn't exist. Everything that they have given up for this person has been for nothing. I think in the end it is a song about the pain of loving someone so completely, yet not having the love returned.

i have to agree with thadius30 this is about realising that the person that you're in love with just doesn't care for you in even remotly the same way, i have a few friends who are in those relationships currently, it's rough to watch someone in that situation, and yet it is such a commen thing.... i think that "please please forgive me" line is kind of her wish that if she does leave he'll feel bad, but she knows he won't

I think this song is about someone feeling unwanted and unloved so they leave and runaway knowing that no one will realise your gone and that you could kill yourself and that they still would not realise that you were there

i think this song is about realizing that a one sided relationship isn't enough because something is "missing". she loves him so much and it's tearing her apart that she is going to leave him, but like she says, "even though i'm the sacrifice/you won't try for me/not now" because she realizes that the threat of leaving him isn't enough for him to wake up...it's a sad song really.

i think itz just about a girl really in love with this guy and the guy probably tells her he dont like her or just gives her hints that he dont. She never noticed it until one day she finally woke up from her dream/ fanatsy. opened her eyes and realize that he dont like her....yea....then she knows if she loves him she wants him to be happy and in that way it would sayin ill leave you alone.and shez just sad cuz he still loves him.....i dunno i tryed im new at this lol.

Hey everyone ;) For some reason...this song reminds me of *ME* ...and the way i see it is, i think of it as a girl who is feeling unwanted at home, her parents and/or parent doesn't give her any recognition, for example "But I won't be home again." "Thought i'd die to know you love me, i'm all alone" these words to me describe a lost little girl who feels unloved, knowing that her parents or noone there cares about her. (it sounds strange to you probably) i know, but this is just the meaning and the energy that the song gives off to me...but you all have interesting opinions aswell.

I think this song is about someone who was probably neglected or mistreated by their parents and they were thinking about runingaway and they thought that no one would care that they ran away. even though this person really wanted ther parents to love them.

To me this song sounds as though its written from the viewpoint of someone who just killed themself. The person did it becuase they didn't feel loved or noticed, and now the person sees that she was right. No one notices shes "missing" and she's calling out from beyond the grave to thoe who should notice, "isn't something missing?"

Wow good views! Mine mostly matches up with xXBrokenXx.

I picture a girl who walks away from her father and perhaps he is an alcoholic who is lost in the bottle, but it doesn't even have to be that. He just takes her for granted and doesn't pay attention to her.

"Please, please forgive me,
But I won't be home again.
Maybe someday you'll have woke up,
And, barely conscious, you'll say to no one:
"Isn't something missing?""

She's saying you don't care about me. And maybe when you finally do start to care, it'll be too late. I'll be gone.

I totally can relate to this song. Especially this part:

"Even though I'd be sacrificed,
You won't try for me, not now.
Though I'd die to know you love me,
I'm all alone.
Isn't someone missing me?"

I used to when I was little think what it'd be like to be gone. Or to take myself out of this world. That if I could see everyone (perhaps through the eyes of my spirit) gathering around me and crying and realizing what a terrible mistake it was to lose me, I could find salvation in knowing that people actually appreciated and loved me. And it was never about just appreciation and love. It was about SHOWING appreciation and love.

This world is cold, praiseless, and very needy.

I think the "die to know you love me" is so powerful.

This song blew me away when I first listened to it. Seems like I'll never get tired of Evanescence or Amy Lee's use of vocals. Some people venture to say that she simply has an operatic voice. But it's what she does with that already beautiful voice that amazes me. And on top of that she writes such dark and beautiful songs that really make you think. They really make you look around and realize that state of things.

There seems to always be an underlying moral to each and every Evanescence song, but maybe that's just me. Amy Lee just has a way to write in such a manner that puts you right into that position that would lead you to understand the message.

Gripping. Compelling. This song is no less. It's absolutely breathtaking.

i totally agree about the song being about a parent. The first time i hear it i pictured a girl and her mother leaving her father. like the girl is ni the car with her mother driving away from their home and the life they had with him, and shes thinking this, these things she wants to say to her father, but she knows he won't be listening even if she said them out loud. very powerful, love to hear it.

Just out of curiosity, and correct me if I'm wrong, but in the second verse, isn't it "I breathe deep and cry out" instead of "Shudder deep and cry out"? At least, that's what it sounds like!

Love this song though, very meaningful. Glad it was released on Anywhere But Home...

First of all, it's "Even though I'm the sacrifice," not "Even though I'd be sacrificed." Also, it's "I don't want you to feel sad," not "I know what you do to yourself."
And I agree with a lot of people: it's either about parents who don't care or a boyfriend who doesn't care. I wrote one story that the song described down to a g, about somebody sacrificing their life for the one they love-but that person doesn't love them, and they have to die knowing that no one will care.
I love the lyrics, but I didn't like the song itself the first time I heard it. Now I love it.

it sounds nothing like "I don't want you to feel sad" - if you listen to it you can hear her say "I know what you do to yourself" as you can hear the pronounciation of "self" :)

I believe this song is about someone who is so much in love with another person, but the sad part is that other person doesn't love them back or even pays much attention to him/her. It's sad reallt. This person struggles with their feelings for the other and in the end realizes they should just move on but hold on to the fact that the person they love will soon see what they have missed in life.

I agree with a lot of comments. This song basically talks about loving someone and not being loved in returned .. and not only that, but not even being noticed. I wonder when she talks about leaving if she means suicide .. and then when she dies maybe people will notice her and realize that she meant so much to them.
