Lyrics for Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner as interpreted by BrandNew1208

Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner Lyrics
Drink down that gin and kerosene,
and come spit on bridges with me.
Just to keep us warm.

Then light a match to leave me be.
Light a match to leave, me be.
And I keep my jealousy close,
'cause it's all mine.
And if you say this makes you happy,
then I'm not the only lying.

Keep quiet,
nothing comes as easy as you.
Can I lay in your bed all day?
I'll be your best kept secret
and your biggest mistake.
The hand behind this pen relives a failure everyday.

Keep quiet,
nothing comes as easy as you.
Can I lay in your bed all day?
I'll be your best kept secret
and your biggest mistake.
The hand behind this pen relives a failure everyday.

And I keep my jealousy close,
'cause it's all mine.
And if you say this makes you happy,
then I'm not the only one who is lying.

Drink down that gin and kerosene,
and come spit on bridges with me.
Just to keep us warm.

Then light a match to leave me be.
Light a match to leave, me be.

Keep quiet,
nothing comes as easy as you.

So wear me like a locket around your throat.
I'll weigh you down; I'll watch you choke.
You look so good in blue.
You look so good in blue.

So wear me like a locket around your throat.
I'll weigh you down; I'll watch you choke.
You look so good in blue.
You look so good in blue.

So wear me like a locket around your throat. (Keep quiet, nothing comes as easy as you)
I'll weigh you down; I'll watch you choke. (Can I lay in your bed all day?)
You look so good in blue.
You look so good in blue.

Keep quiet,
nothing comes as easy as you.
Can I lay in your bed all day?
I'll be your best kept secret
and your biggest mistake.
The hand behind this pen relives a failure everyday.

okay heres everyone's problem:

Drink down that gin and kerosene,
and come spit on bridges with me.
Just to keep us warm.
Then light a match to leave me be.
Light a match to leave, me be.

This all goes together. If you kerosene and alochol, spit it out, and throw a match on it, it's going to make a big fire. so i kinda agree with synapse when he said that the guy wants to burn down bridges.

Alright, I seem to have this strange thought about this song that I can't get out of my head. We watched a movie in a class of mine called "Bringing Up Baby" not a wonderful movie, but also not completely horrible. anyways.. I'm convinced that the title of this song has SOMETHING to do with the movie.. and in my head, it makes sense. The movie (for most of you who probably haven't seen it) is about a guy who's supposed to marry this girl, but he ends up meeting some other girl like, the day before the wedding while he's doing work stuff and he keeps meeting up with her and pretty much it ends up that she won't let him marry the other girl because she's in love with him and he later realizes he's in love with her too and dumps his fiancee.
SOOO... like someone said earlier, this song is about him being in love with another girl who already has a boyfriend (like how the girl fell in love with the guy that had a fiancee). ummm.. so yeah.. that's my crazy interpreatation.. if anyone else has seen the movie, let me know if makes sense.. lol
This song is amazing though... "you look so good in blue" and "the hand behind this pen relives a failure everyday" yep.. i have no words to explain how wonderous it is..

Are you guys serious about thinking that the first stanza is about literally playing with fire and setting fire to bridges? It's clearly figurative "burning bridges." I'm also fairly certain that in "Calm Before the Storm" the sun didn't ACTUALLY burn out... You sell FOB short. It's cool though, props to you for loving this band, can't wait to see them next semester. By the way, does anybody think that it's weird that a band that has nearly a million and a half plays on purevolume has only a handful of comments here?

I'm pretty sure the title comes from that "Dirty Dancing" movie.
anyways, onto the song:
"I was thinking that I thought I had kind of come to terms with how I felt about someone and resolved my feelings when we wrote take this to your grave. But they just wouldn’t go away inside my head. And at the same time I guess, just how the people who hurt us are often just so irresistible that we keep going back. The line “can I lay in your bed all day and be your best kept secret and your worst mistake”- was actually something I said to someone and then wrote down as I lay in their bed and waited for them to come home. The band kind of lets me go wild with lyrics, on this song they could tell it was pretty angry- I guess. We get asked a lot if we are mysognists because of this song I think, but I want to put it on the table: you’re getting it wrong, we don’t hate girls, we hate everyone."
that's what was said on their website about it.

I'll add my two cents to the last stanza:

"So wear me like a locket around your throat/I'll weigh you down/I'll watch you choke/You look so good in blue"

What I gathered from this is that in this hypothetical locket is where you usually keep the one you love, a picture for example. if she has this picture of her "best kept secret and [her] biggest mistake" it is going to weigh her down. Even more so because it's a secret: "If you say this makes you happy then I am not the only one lying" implies they are both unhappy. But in the end he makes it clear that it is her choice, to inevitably choke on her secret.

the first time i heard the "ill wear you down, ill watch you choke, you look so good in blue" like i immediatly thought of someone and smiled. it did the way she treats me justice. i actually had her listen to this song, not telling her it reminded me of her and she fell in love with it. hahaha.

to me this song is about a guy 'n a girl who are friends and they end up getting drunk one night, and probably fool around a little. thus the first stanza about drinking and then the metaphore dealing with burning down the bridge of their good friendship. "light a match to leave me be" - he knows she's going to go back to her boyfriend and leave him - plays into the fact that they're burning their friendship.

my guess is that the girl probably has a boyfriend or something, so she wants to keep the boy a secret - "i'll be your best kept secret and your biggest mistake." - because she was cheating on her boyfriend and perhaps regretted it.

"nothing comes as easy as you" could either be saying that she's slutty, or that he feels so comfortable with her that being with her seems almost perfect. "and i keep my jealousy close,
'cause it's all mine." - he's jealousy of her boyfriend, because regardless of the circumstances, she still means a lot to him. "can i lay in your bed all day?" is just another example of how much she means to him, and how he would be content just to be with her.

"and if you say this makes you happy, then im not the only one who is lying." - he knows that she's upset about they situation, just as he is, but both of them go on pretending that everything is okay and that they're happy.

"so wear me like a locket around your throat. / i'll weigh you down; i'll watch you choke. / you look so good in blue." - the locket is her secret, and i thought of it being a longer necklace, so it would hang close to her heart - so she keeps this secret close to her heart. anyway, he knows that this is going to weigh on her but, probably because he's jealous and her, he'll watch her choke. the part about her looking good in blue might have to do with him liking to be there for her and comfort her, so he likes it when she's blue.... which is kinda sick. but that's just my take on it.

finally, when he says "the hand behind this pen relives a failure everyday" - i think he's realizing his own failure due to his jealously and the fact that he would rather she her choking on her secret then content with her boyfriend.

... i might be completely off base, but that's what i got out of the song.

wow. amazing song. i love fall out boy, and this song pretty much sums up my whole situation. i saw it differently though.
i dont think its about the girl cheating with the guy. for me it was like they were already in a relationship, and to one of them it was a big mistake (and your biggest mistake) and it was like embarassing for them. almost like theyre trying to cover it up so they just forgot anything that might have happend.
i might be completely wrong but thats how i see it

Yeah I, too, like this song.... This kid and I are playing it at some talent show thing at school we're gonna tear it up. But, when they played this song live, they don't play it acoustic. You can find that version at:

he's her best friend....he's also in love with her but she has a boyfriend--relationships fuck everything up.
He feels like he's weighing her down and holding her back because they fucked and nobody knows about it...especially the chicks boyfriend...i bet he feels like shit every time they fuck and then she goes right back to him because he realizes over and over that it means nothing to her.

My best guess...

Drink down that gin and kerosene,
and come spit on bridges with me.
Just to keep us warm.
Then light a match to leave me be.
Light a match to leave, me be.
+Clearly this is a reference to the phrase "burning bridges." He lets her know that it'll be her choice to burn down the bridges they're crossing over, it will be her that will leave him be (alone).

And I keep my jealousy close,
'cause it's all mine.
And if you say this makes you happy,
then I'm not the only lying.
+The last line of this stanza brings it all together. Initially, we read it as saying that she really isn't happy, but with what? My guess is that "this" refers to the present state of things, which later lyrics lead me to believe that he loves her, but she has a boy friend and they can't be together. THIS situation she may claim makes her happy, but he knows he doesn't. He also admits that she isn't the only one lying. He's lying too when he says that he keeps his jealousy close. He doesn't because he's letting her know it, trying to make her give in to his love and give up on her boyfriend. Crossing this bridge would leave them with no turning back, but it would also leave him alone in the end, after she begins to feel guilty about it.

Keep quiet,
nothing comes as easy as you.
Can I lay in your bed all day?
I'll be your best kept secret
and your biggest mistake.
The hand behind this pen relives a failure everyday.
+He asks her to keep quiet, stop complaining, stop making excuses, no more what ifs. J"ust give in to the feelings you have for me." Nothing comes as easy as you means that she does give in and they have they're great moment, but it's only a moment. After the wondrous laying in her bed all day, he immediately becomes her best kept secret (something she wants NO ONE else to know) and her biggest mistake (usually cheating is). The last line is just a cry out of angst, the hand behind this pen (THE WRITER) relives a failure everyday (and today it's the failure of the relationship with her).

So wear me like a locket around your throat.
I'll weigh you down; I'll watch you choke.
You look so good in blue.
You look so good in blue.
+A locket would be a picture of a lover around your neck, so apparently that's what he was for her. Weighing her down would be caused by the guilt that keeping this memory so close to her would cause, keeping it so close so that no one else would know. Eventually she'd choke because of the weight (read "guilt") and she'd suffer and die from it, being "blue."

So basically I think this song is about him loving a girl who's taken, and instead of waiting for a better moment to be with her, he does what his heart tells him and just goes for her heart right then and there. Sadly enough, he gets it, and they have their temporary bliss, but then guilt sets in, and whatever they could have had later on is now ruined forever, because he will always be her biggest mistake, and she'll never be able to look past that and see him as someone that truly is in love with her.

I tried...

I LOVE FALL OUT BOY!
