Lyrics for For the Widows in Paradise, for the Fath... as interpreted by antennas

For the Widows in Paradise, for the Fath... Lyrics
I've have called you children
I have called you son
What is there to answer
If I'm the only one
Morning comes in Paradise
Morning comes in light
Still I must obey
Still I must invite

If there's anything to say
If there's anything to do
I there's any other way
I'd do anything for you

I was dressed in embarassment
I was dressed in white
If you had a part of me
Will you take your time
Even if I come back
Even if I die
Is there some idea
To replace my life

Like a father to impress
Like a mother's mourning dress
If we ever make a mess
I'll do anything for you

I have called you preacher
I have called you son
If you have a father
Or if you haven't one
I'll do anything for you
I'll do anything for you
I'll do anything for you
I'll do anything for you
I'll do anything for you

I did everything for you
I did everything for you
I did everything for you
I did everything for you
I did everything for you
I did everything for you
I did everything for you
I did everything for you
I did everything for you
I did everything for you
I did everything for you
I did everything for you
I did everything for you
I did everything for you

i guess it can be talking from jesus's standpoint, but that kind of ruins the song for me. I like to think that he's just calling out to those who need help that he wants to help and he's there for those that want it.

This song is breathtaking, its definately among the best I have ever heard. The song is also used in the episode "The Heavy Lifting" from 3rd season of The O.C.. I really think it fits the occasion (a daytime funeral at the beach) perfectly.

I love the short story that goes with this song on the michigan site. Read it, if you haven't.

To me, this song does have christian undertones, but just the right kind of them. The idea of loving your neighbor and doing anything for them are some of my favorite ideas from christianity, and I think that's what this song is about.

this is a nice song. and i like sufjan. but did anyone notice how it changed from "I'll do anything for you" to "I did everything for you"? I agree on the Christian undertones, but i see this as a sort of upset "i died for you, and you still don't believe me, you stupid fools." sort of thing. sure i'm a non christian so ofcourse my views are biased, but i'd like to hear what others think.

I think he says "Even If I come back, Even If I die" is the most powerful part of the song, because Jesus is saying, "I'll do anything for you, even die and come back and still people will reject me."

Still I must obey - Obey the Father God and die on the cross
Still I must invite - Invite people to believe in me and accept Christianity

This is an amazing song indeed...it's basically become the theme song for this movement to help the child soldiers in Northern Uganda. The organization is called Invisible Children and they're actually organizing this massive Global Night Commute on April 29, in a city near you. I strongly suggest everyone to join in.
"Americans are closing their eyes to open the worlds’ to an unseen war"

I dont know if this has anything to do with it but Michigan is supposed to be the place where all the Righteous people of the Earth will meet during the Second coming of Christ. I dont know if this has anything to do with the meaning of the song.

The religious tones to this song kind of ruin it for me, but I try not to let it get me down, considering it is such a Beautiful wonderful song. I'm trying to think of my favorite lyrics, and while it's hard to choose, I'm going to have to say that the lines "If you had a part of me, will you take your time?" would probably be up there somewhere.

So yeah, this is definitely my favorite song off the Michigan cd.

This song makes me cry. Or I assume it would, if I were to listen to it.

It\'s a very beautiful song. I\'m quite taken with the banjo in it. You never quite expect the banjo to be beautiful.

I certainly agree that this song carries strong Christian undertones. if anyone is familiar with the gospels, specifically the story of Christ's death, there is a part which talks about how the morning before His crucifixion ("Morning comes in Paradise") Jesus is talking to God and basically saying "why me?" I believe he says "if there is any other way, I will do it" or something to that extent, a la:
If there's anything say
If there's anything to do
I there's any other way
I'd do anything for you.
Jesus was human after all, it's not as if he was totally gung-ho about suffering terribly and dying on a cross.
"I was dressed in embarassment
I was dressed in white"
most depictions of the passion of Christ depict him wearing white, and He was beaten and scorned and "embarassed" in front of a large crowd.

Even if I come back
Even if I die
Is there some idea
To replace my life?

as for this part, I think He wants to know that His death is for a purpose, that His ideas and such will be left behind and He won't have died in vain.

basically this is a beautiful song, regardless of one's beliefs. it's quite Christian-themed but I don't think it's offensive to someone who doesn't believe. I hope not anyway, it's got a wonderful positive message.

I honestly am getting kind of annoyed with everyone saying his songs are strictly about christianity. Yes, there is a possibility it is about Jesus, but it bothers me that some people are saying "THIS IS 100% ABOUT JESUS, GOD, AND CHRISTIANITY". That means there is zero room for it to be about anything else. I'm glad you are a christian bible-banger, but can you guys tone it down a few knotches? You people could turn a Mudvayne song into a christian-jesus-promoting song. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for God and what-not, but come on, there's being a christian, and then there's being ignorant. This song could be about any number of things, but everyone jumps to the immediate conclusion that it's about Jesus. How close minded can we get here?

of course there's a number of ways a song could be interpreted. people are just offering their opinions. obviously, unless sufjan himself comes on songmeanings.net and says "you all are full of it, this is what it means," then this is all purely speculation. personally, I see quite a few connections between this song and the story of Christ's passion and death, and if someone can validate a claim that it's got absolutely nothing to do with Christianity whatsoever, they should do so and shed some light on some other conclusions.
