Weeds blow tall on a broken train track
Ruth B. draws, we're fixin' to get high
Maybe we'll hit the bluffs
And find ourselves the same old rum

But everybody says this place is beautiful
And you'd be so crazy to say goodbye
But everything's the same, this town is pitiful
And I'll be gettin' out as soon as I can fly

Life goes by on a Talihina sky
The hopped up boys are lookin' for their trouble
The knocked up girls, well, they've all got their share
Ruth seems out of her mind, swears she won't give in this time

General Comment:I really love this song. I think a lot of people, even the ones that live in bigger cities, can relate to it. I think that a lot of people have felt the feeling that they just want to get out and move some place else and start over and that they don't fit in.

I have listened to Kings of Leon for a LONG time and i still love them, even though their new music isn't as good as the old music that they used to make. But some of their newer songs are really good anyway.

    Go go Kings of Leon!

General Comment:I was so delighted to find this at the end of Youth & Young Manhood!

I think the meaning is pretty clear -- if not, the first response in this thread explains the meaning well.

Being from a small town, I can connect to this closely, especially the chorus. Small towns have a certain humility to them -- cordiality, hospitality, etc.. -- but all are bred with an arrogance. I'm sure you could go to a small town anywhere, and they'd spit at the neighbouring town's name (even though that town is the exact same as their own). I know the people in my town place our little village higher than the rest, but really, all of these petty little towns are the exact same.

And the people in the small towns are so proud, so arrogant, so content. "But everybody says this place is so beautiful, and you'd be crazy to say goodbye. But everything's the same, the town's so pitiful, and I'll be getting out, as soon as I can."

General Comment:I'll be honest and say - I've only recently discovered this song, although I've been a fan of KOL for a long time. And it's my new favourite! I just love the nostalgic feel it has about it. Great song.

My Opinion:Man I don't see why they hate Talihana. I Lived There for my whole life and None of these things go on. I love it, I moved to poteau, a city, no one but okies have heard of and it sucks I hate city life and love in the backwoods! These guys were from around here and I guess they got to be a little briefcase carryin' city boys!

Song Meaning:Talihina always seems to me as the town that was, or almost was.

The word "Talihina" being Choctaw for "Iron Road" (aka Rail Road) looked at through the perspective that Talihina hasn't had a railroad track in years makes the line "Weeds blow tall on a broken train track" all that more perfect in describing Talihina.

I wish the bar that was in the old shack up by the entrance to the Ouachita National Forest was still open. I was there around 10 years ago and really had a good time. Regardless of all the bulletholes in the walls and ceiling, everyone was super cool to me and the jukebox, full of country music, also had one record from Pink Floyd in it. Very cool. :)

Memory:I'm in the same situation, but with a twist. I moved from the city to the country life to finish my highschool years. I can't say I regret the move, but I do miss the easy, fast paced city. My problem is that I want to get out this whole area. I'm in the middle of Canada, where the wheat fields grow. Nothing but trees, hills, and wheat. A few cows dot the landscape to add a little fun.
I want to start a whole new life in a new country, new customs, new everything!. I connect with this song completely, the drive to constantly get away, to fly is always under my skin pushing me along these past few months to make the necessary arrangements. Thank you KOL.

General Comment:I love this song, personally this song means so much for be bacuse it makes me think of the small town in Mexico were my parent grew up and where i was born. My mom married my dad when she was 15 and he was 18. They had three kids and one day finally life gave them the opportunity to leave the town and took risk. From what they tell this ongs reflects the life of that town. Girls getting knocked up at a very young age, guys do drugs and alcohol. When you are young in this town you want to be able to fly and just leave, but as you get older you feel stuck there for the rest of your life, you get used to it, and you end up like everyone else. Basically you end up "but everybody says this town is beautiful and you'd be so crazy to say goodbye"

great song... Kings of Leon kick ass!

Everthing the same this town is pitiful and I'll be getting out as soon as I can fly."

    I love this song.
I'm from a small town, its beautiful but theres absolutely nothing here...
Old folks love it but us kids hate it and spend years wanting leave.. when we finally graduate its like learning how to fly.
