Everyone's watching, to see what you will do
Everyone's looking at you, oh
Everyone's wondering, will you come out tonight
Everyone's trying to get it right, get it right

Everybody's working for the weekend
Everybody wants a little romance
Everybody's goin' off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, oh
You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You want to be in the show
Come on baby lets go

Everyone's looking to see if it was you
Everyone wants you to come through
Everyone's hoping it'll all work out
Everyone's waiting they're holding out

Everybody's working for the weekend
Everybody wants a little romance
Everybody's goin' off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, oh
You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You want to be in the show
Come on baby lets go

You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You want to be in the show
Come on baby lets go

You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You want to be in the show
Come on baby lets go

General Comment:I have always thought the song was about working for a date or romance and not about a job so much.

General Comment:I believe it's about working FOR the weekend...when most dates occur. Each time I meet a guy and find him interesting, I check him out to see if he could be someone who would make a great life partner...fun, exciting, daring, not a fan of the tv or sports on tv, someone who loves to dance, party, laugh (a lot), who's an intellectual, and who is very bright. I've been meeting them and laughing with them. So this song, to me, is about working hard through the week so one can enjoy the weekend. We all need some down time. And we each are looking for that right person. I pray I find him. I just haven't met him yet, as the song goes.

Song Meaning:This song is about people working during the weekend.A person could say something like "I'm boating for the weekend" which would mean that they are spending their weekend boating.Saying "I'm working for the weekend" would be along the same lines meaning that the person is going to be working all weekend. The fact that the person in the song is working during the weekend is why everyone wonders if that person will come out tonight or if they will just keep working.Romance is desired for the person since they are stuck at the office all weekend working and this over working explains why the person is going off the deep end.The second chance needed would be another chance for the person at life in order to acquire a job that would not require them to work during weekends. So in conclusion, this song is about people who have jobs which require them to miss their social life since they work during weekends and these people's desire to start over with a new career in a better life.

General Comment:This song is about a coke dealer.

Loverboy were a HUGE coke band. Most of the 80s bands were because that was what was going on in the 80s music industry and all the "cool" scenes.

Just check out their lyrics to their song "Jump," the title itself being a coke reference:

Was it your idea to meet me like this
Sneakin’ round with the lights down low?
    It feels so good
I hope it doesn’t fade away

But if they catch us here together this way
You know we better think quick
Cuz you bet you’re last buck
They’ll be first to get the last lick

    When I say Jump
    You better jump
    When I say walk
You better get ready to say good bye

Now you can’t always get what you want when you want it
So you settle for second best
    You need it so bad
Don’t matter what price you pay

When you lay it on the line takin’ chances like this
One slip could do the trick
Cuz you bet you’re last buck
They’ll be first to get the last lick

    When I say Jump
    You better jump
    When I say walk
You better get ready to say good bye

And when I look at you now
    Somehow it don’t seem right
But it feels so good tonight

General Comment:it always came to me as a story of all these people going out to party on the weekend, hence "everybody's workin' for the weekend" and they get in some fight or someone gets killed or something.

Everyone's looking to see if it was you
Everyone wants you to come through
Everyone's hoping it'll all work out
    Everyone's waiting they're holding out

or maybe somebody got arrested? i 'unno

General Comment:This is so catchy; who the fuck cannot like this song? I always think of Zoolander when I hear this song. Anyways, the drug reference is a good theory.
