I don't know what it means. Mixed messages about love and religion (HIM's specialty). I don't care, it's my favourite song on Love Metal.

dude what the hell is up with this? only 2 fucking people commented?? this is one of the best songs on love metal cept i like the sacrament and circle of fear better but every song on that cd is good....ANYWAYS im not totally sure wut this song means but the way i interpreted it is that ville's having doubts about god cuz something happened that wasnt fair or something like that HIM ROCKS

forlorn love. its about heartbreak. probably also about love's light side, or god. he doesnt want to be touched by the good light he doesnt want his wounds healed. i understand him. pain and darkness is deep and friendly. but he probably loves someone he cant love because she's too 'good/light'. this is a good song. the meaning is really mixed, but really deep.

I always get the feeling that, given he's not a religious man, he uses that kind of vibe to express what love is - sort of like a religion. And like religion can cause some serious doubts and hurt for people the same way it can be a salvation. I sort of feel like it's similar to most others; just being in a relationship that has it's really good points and really bad points and trying to work out what to do in that situation...

1st of all,this is the best song ever!!!I think the song is about the unhappy condition of a genious mind, a mind that can love more than others, but can't find his mach in this world, because noone could get so high to his level of inteligence and perception of life, of feelings.The author needs to escape this world that caused him so much pain, and the only person who keeps him here is his girl.We find lots of purifying symbols, like the fire, 4 example(a flickering flame, gates of fire...)The author lives in the dark, the darkness of his soul, and love is ment to light that dark(a flickering flame so srerne devours the night so we could see the fear we hold on to so strong)Once he falls inlove, he can't be saved anymore.We can see that he's tempted to denie the love, because he thinks that love is pain, is a bittersweet mixture of joy and sorrow,the heartless turned into a pupet of destiniy due to this feeling.This song is a strugle between the rational and the heart.
P.S.:There's nothing religious here, And "the gods" are a metaphore for love,he wants to hide from this heartbrakin' feeling, not from some god.

This is a beautiful song. Alot of mixed messages.
I think it means that there is a person who loves another deeply, but they feel undiserving of that persons love.
"But I know where I belong
Away from your gods
That heal all wounds and light this endless dark"

This person perfers that they stay in this endless dark and I do not know why because this person who wants to be with someone who is perfet and pure, feels they do not diserve this good thing.

It might also mean something about hurtfull love. I know its stupid to say because we all get hurt when we are in love, but the word "forlorn" means: appearing sad or lonely because of being deserted or abandoned. Mabe this person wants to make up for some things that went wrong in a past relationship, but they cant bring themselves to make up/ fix what went wrong because they might have hurt that person they love so badly that they feel undiserving of a second chance.

I think he is saying he dosen't want a miricle God that is able to do anything. He would rather worship the one who he loves. Love is the temple, and if you made the reference to The Sacrement, she is his Sacrement, his bread of live as to say. His religion is not the worship of any miricle God, but of Love.

I can personally relate to this one, and I think I get what it means. It's all in the chorus.

"i know where I belong, away from your gods"

The singer isn't and can't be religious.. he's a dark soul, and doesn't belong in divinity. He prefers to stay in the "endless dark", but is in love with the person he's singing it to. He prefers to spend his life worshipping their love, the only thing thats ever been real for him.

i think that he is saying that "wounds" and "endless dark" are the marks from forbidden love because earlier in the song he says
"The fear we hold onto so strong"
the fear being the love they have but are afraid that some one will find their love
