Where do you think you’re going?
Don’t you know it’s dark outside?
Where do you think you’re going?
Don’t you care about my pride?
Where do you think you’re going?
I thing you don’t know
You got no way of knowing
There’s really no place you can go
I understand your changes
Long before you reach the door
I know where you think you’re going
I know what you came here for
And now I’m sick of jocking
I know I like you to be free
Where do you think you’re going?
I think you better go with me girl
You say there is no reason
But you still find cause to doubt me
If you ain’t with me girl
You’re gonna be without me
Where do you think you’re going?
Don’t you know it’s dark outside?
Where do you think you’re going?
Don’t you care about my pride?
And now I’m sick of jocking
I know I like you to be free
Where do you think you’re going?
I think you better go with me girl
Don’t you know it’s dark outside?
Where do you think you’re going?
Don’t you care about my pride?
Where do you think you’re going?
I thing you don’t know
You got no way of knowing
There’s really no place you can go
I understand your changes
Long before you reach the door
I know where you think you’re going
I know what you came here for
And now I’m sick of jocking
I know I like you to be free
Where do you think you’re going?
I think you better go with me girl
You say there is no reason
But you still find cause to doubt me
If you ain’t with me girl
You’re gonna be without me
Where do you think you’re going?
Don’t you know it’s dark outside?
Where do you think you’re going?
Don’t you care about my pride?
And now I’m sick of jocking
I know I like you to be free
Where do you think you’re going?
I think you better go with me girl

A troubled relationship yes, but in the last verse be makes it known that he wishes he diddnt care about his pride, which is quite different then hoping she had cared about yours.
In the end it seems like shes going to walk, most likely because of something he has said or decreed (which may or may not be unreasonable or abusive) and he is chocking on thoes last bittersweet secconds where theres time left to renege. In fact that whole song is about being trapped in that molment where you watch her walk because you just stand there wrestling with your own pride.
I've never had a relationship end up like that but even after all these years this song sends chills up my spine.
I'm not perfect and can be a bit of a male chauvinist at times. But I think if the guy in the story had been a little more sensitive and was not thinking so much about his pride all along she'd not be headed to the door...
In a corny play that angels asked me to do with them, my angel played the dude in this song. This part was a musical proceeded by “Slender Frame”. Cute. “Pack up your things and go. Run down the road, he’ll never know. Pack up your things today and run away.” Followed by the gruff “Where do you think you’re going? Don’t you know it’s dark outside…” The creativity was impressive since this portion of the musical was confined to what my brother had brought with him in music for a weekend up north. The angels put all these songs together—with my help of course—but I wasn’t really familiar with too many of them and then I listened to the compilation and said, oh! You told a story. Very cool. The remainder was “Round and Round”—Frozen Ghost, “Reflex”—Duran Duran, “Part of Your Life”—The Outfield, a fragment of “Rolling Thunder”—A-Ha, “There’s No Point”—The Outfield, “Waiting For Her” and “Crying in the Rain”—A-Ha, “In the Hands of Love”—Dream Academy, “Dum Dum Girl”—Talk Talk, “Romeo and Juliet”—Dire Straits, “Hungry Like the Wolf”—Duran Duran and “Life’s What You Make It”—Talk Talk . Sorry that was so boring …
