Lyrics for Existentialism on Prom Night as interpreted by almostmanda

Existentialism on Prom Night Lyrics
when the sun came up
we were sleeping in
sunk inside our blankets
sprawled across the bed
and we were dreaming

there are moments when i know it
and the world revolves around us
and we're keeping it
keeping it all going
this delicate balance
vulnerable
all knowing

(sing like you think no one's listening)

you would kill for this
just a little bit

so, sing me something soft
sad and delicate
or loud and out of key
sing me anything
we're glad for what we've got
done with what we've lost
our whole lives laid out right in front of us

I think people might be reading into this song too much; it's just about those perfect moments. :)

I think the song is about waking up & realizing that you control your own future. It's a point in your life where you have to let go of things past, be grateful for the present good, and look forward to your future without any fear. Sing like you think no one's listening.

Just my thoughts.

MANNN i loveee this song. ugh this is my favorite ever. the piano and his voice in conjunction.. the lyrics are absolutely amazing. & the fact that they're orginally from Long Island, NY is the icing on the cake lol.

To me the first verse describes that feeling you have after you've just had a brilliant night and you want to relive it again and again, they're using prom as an example.

The world revolves around them, they are all that matters. They are carefree.

"you would kill for this" They would do anything to relive those moments.

"Sing me something soft, sad and delicate, or loud and out of key." Sing them something, even if its not perfect. That conveys to me that they are happy with their significant other, even if they aren't perfect.

"Sing like you think no one's listening." Act like your not being watched. Be yourself. we're glad for what we've got
done with what we've lost
our whole lives laid out right in front of us"

Theyre over anything that happened in the past, either problems theyve overcome together or past lovers.

all it takes is one amazing night to make you realize everything you have.

about moving on to bigger and better things, and understanding that this time you finally deserve them.

Existentialism is "A philosophical movement embracing the view that the suffering individual must create meaning in an unknowable, chaotic, and seemingly empty universe."
However I don't think that's important. Prom night likely cuz it sounds like one of those songs they play at the prom in the movies when the guy and girl are slow dancing and they kiss or something.

God, this is my favorite song in the whole world. It is a very beautiful song. My stepbrother always says it's so EXTREMEMLY emo, but I don't know about that. It just seems like a song about a delicate, uncertain love to me. I used to sing this song to my boyfriend, so it reminds me of him.

I think it might be about two people at prom realizing that everything in their lives have led them to this one perfect moment together, and they would do anything to be able to go back one day.

"The whole concept of existentialism is that God is dead"

No its not, a belief in existentialism suggests that you dont believe in a God, but religious beliefs and existentialist beliefs arent mutually exclusive. it's possible a God designed a world that was existentialist, as much as it is that he designed a world where everything is destined.

The part "sprawled across the bed, and we were dreaming" is my favorite. I can't stop listening to this song and I don't really know what it's about.

"sprawled across the bed
and we were dreaming"

sounds like...

"sprawled across the bed
and we we're dreaming"

The ' can make world of difference.

And I am having a hard time finding anything existential in this bit. I am thinking it is a sublime song title for a sublime song. Nothing of relevance.

"The whole concept of existentialism is that God is dead"

God plays a big role in the existential theater. Nietzsche said, "God is dead." But he was reflecting on the death we have imposed on God, not the literal tense. The rest of the thinkers had dire convictions towards the idea of God, save the atheistic existentialists. And they just procured the same meanings beyond the scope of divinity.

I've heard the main base piano line so many times not knowing it, but now i know the song. it's almost like a funeral or graduation song. it's signaling the end oof one thing, but the start of another

I think the song is just about being young and not knowing what going to happen, that feeling when you wake up in the morning and just want to lie in bed and not face the day or think about anything.Song makes you think about the past and you didn't realise how good it was when it was happending but when you look back you would kill to go back to that time :)

God. I love this song. It means that you shouldn't be afraid to be yourself in public. Too many people care about the way they appear in the eyes of others. People should learn to just stop caring. ^-^

I love this song, it's so emotional and passionate. I believe that this song is about him choosing his fate, and all the good times he's had. That's just my opinion though.

This has been my favorite song for several years. and no one really looks at this one because it's so old but i believe wholly that this song is about a man who wakes up and realizes that he is completely in love with this girl in his bed and he doesn't care how bad at some things she might be he loves her regardless. and he realizes that he has something that nobody else has but always wants. and they have an entire life ahead of them to spend in love because each other is all that they need
