i ripped this cd on my computer, got rid of this song, and then burned the franz ferdinand cd sans michael on a new blank disc. i never want to hear this song.

Me and my friend had this CD on in the background while we were playing XBOX one night....this song came on...my response being, "Uh...what's going on here?". I can't say I'm a fan of the blatent homoeroticism here, either...I think I'm going with geoffk's plan...

Look, don't get me wrong. I heart vagina. But this song is just really, really good. Honestly, I wish it weren't so difficult NOT to sing along. Funny thing, that one of the best songs on the cd has the most divisive lyrics. Just imagine a girl named Michael. Have you ever met a girl named Michael? No? Well, tell yourself she exists, and she is hell of beautiful.

I agree with wayne_ozacrot, it shouldn't matter if it has gay subject matter if it's a catchy-good-as-hell song. You just have to dance and sing along, and if you can't feel it, then that's your problem.

I think it's catchy as hell...and I just adore the lyrics. That's why I keep coming back to this page, after all. I think it's sick when someone "feels their sexuality is threatened" listening to a song.

‘Michael’ may at first appear to be a frank exploration of homoeroticism ("Michael you’re dancing like a beautiful dance whore") but really Alex is just playing at sexual roles in the same way Morrissey enjoyed 20 years ago.

Oh, my friend Michael says this song's about him...right.
I read in an article on www.franzferdinand.org that it's actually about something Alex witnessed. One of his friends got drunk and this friend and Michael...well, you read the song.

This song is actually about a homosexual called michael (although that may not be his name to keep his identity secret) who lives in glasgow and is very good friends with the band.

Franz Ferdinand are an amazing band, who give a great live performance - if you do like them, check out the early release Darts of Pleasure, the b-sides are pure genious.

I think this is an awsome song by Franz Ferdinand, even if it is a gay love song. (which it is) It tells the story of a buddy of Alex's who just went all out at a dance club one night with another guy.
