Piece by piece
I release
once was mine
now undone
turned blue like New
Orleans
and went down like
a southern sun
I still feel you
beneath my skin
I am tempted
to throw my senses in
'cos its easier to fly
than to face another night in southern sun
and your love is all around
(x2)
in the air to set me free
set me free
you last like a song
I'm deflated
I am pieces on the wind
unrelated
I still feel you
beneath my skin
I am tempted
to throw my senses in
'cos its easier to fly
than to face another night in southern sun
and your love is all around
in the air to set me free
set me free
'cos its easier to fly
set me free
I release
once was mine
now undone
turned blue like New
Orleans
and went down like
a southern sun
I still feel you
beneath my skin
I am tempted
to throw my senses in
'cos its easier to fly
than to face another night in southern sun
and your love is all around
(x2)
in the air to set me free
set me free
you last like a song
I'm deflated
I am pieces on the wind
unrelated
I still feel you
beneath my skin
I am tempted
to throw my senses in
'cos its easier to fly
than to face another night in southern sun
and your love is all around
in the air to set me free
set me free
'cos its easier to fly
set me free

I still feel you
Beneath my skin
And I'm tempted
To throw myself to sea
'Cause it's easier to drown
Than to find somewhere I feel sincerity
In the truth I am blind.
Reading the original and the possible lyrics of the second version, I feel like the song is about someone who has cheated on someone they love. In the original it sounds like, they were caught up in the moment, let go of their senses and done something they shouldn't have done. They couldn't stand one more night of loneliness.
In the second, it sounds more like the aftermath of what they've done. They'd rather throw themselves into the sea, than have to live with their lies any longer. They'd rather give up on what they have/had than have to fight for it, because that would require being honest that they had done something terrible. They're "blind" because they are still putting their own needs first, even though that's what got them into the situation in the first place.
I am tempted to throw myself to sea,
Because it's easier to drown
Than to still feel so empty,
And then the truth comes back around
That, in the end, you're not for me.
Maybe that's just how I wanted to hear them. Hearing them this way has always had so much meaning to me, but then I went to quote it lately and saw that the lyrics were supposed to be -
I am tempted to throw myself to sea,
Cuz it's easier to fly
Than to face another night in Southern Sun,
And your love is all around-
In the air to set me free.
I was really confused. Then I listened to two different tracks of what were supposed to be the same song. One sounded like I heard it, one sounded like it was supposed to be. I thought I was trippin.
This is the one site I've seen a different version of lyrics, so I realise I'm not going totally crazy. But then it's supposed to be-
'Cause it's easier to have dreamt
Than to find somewhere I feel sincerity
And our truth comes back around
In the air, tonight for me, tonight for me.
And guess what? That still totally ruins it for me. LOL.
it's easier to share that intimacy with someone than to face another night alone, watching the sunrise.
Than to find somewhere I feel sincerity
And our truth comes back around
In the air, tonight for me, tonight for me
i love the music. and the lyrics.
Beautiful lyrics and music.
'Cause it's easier to have dreamt
Than to find somewhere I feel sincerity
And our truth comes back around
In the air, tonight for me, tonight for me
Though I initially thought it was sung as "..easier to drown" too.
Really well mixing of mood with lyrics. Good song. There's also a radio cut version that I've heard, but never got hold of.
I think by flying she means to be free from his love and her depressing life.
