what i don't understand is what exacly she's saying.

alright, at first glimps i assume this song is about cosmetic surgery and the like, but then referancing the name there are implications that the cosmetic surgery is gender reassignment and than there are just some other things hinted at too that are a bit under my radar i guess. either way, i do love this song, especialy singing the ohwohoh parts.

at first it seems like its about changing ones sex.
then it seems like she's talking about abortion...
then sex for the first time?

It is about how sex changes you. (title, hello.) And I think its more concering teens.

First verse- Now that you've had sex thing are goign to get really complicated. Its not what most teenages probably imagine, but its not like you can un-pop the cherry.

Second and third verse- all the guys want it, but you have to worry about reputations. sex may be 'in', but it'll hurt you if you're not mentally ready for it, and people will probably be able to tell that something's up.

Fourth- You should stuff your feelings and just fuck, since sex isn't about love anymore. otherwise you're just making things more complicated for yourself.

Fifth- About how boys and girls think of each other concering sex. How they use each other

Sixth- Too late to take it back, and now things are all complicated and stuff. Reassures you that he love you, even though your know it most likely is just for the sex.

Last- Oh whatever, just do it. I can take it, since its going to happen anyway.

Eh, prolly a little off.

(and I've just about beaten the word 'complicated' to death, but i can't think of any synonyms. :P )

I think its more about how sex changes teens.

First verse- Now that you've had sex things are going to get very complicated. Its probably not how you expected it, but its not like you can un-pop the cherry.

Second and third verse- All the guys want it, but you have to worry about reputations. Sex is a 'cool thing' to do, but if you're not mentally ready for it, it'll hurt you, and people will be able to tell that something's up.

Fourth- You should just stuff your feelings and fuck, since sex isn't about love anymore. Otherwise you're just making things overly complicated for youself.

Yes, it plays on words quite a bit.

It's about the concequences of sex. It's about empty feelings and dependancy. It's about killing feelings.

"youll have to keep on feeding it tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow " -- I take this as both feeding an addiction and/or a baby.

"the doctors said that once you get a taste for it youll keep on cutting" -- this looks like a reference to cutting. It can be taken as so much more than just sex. But any addictions really.

There is really a lot in this song. But when it comes down to it, it's more about the music than an exact definition for the lyrics, right?

This song is the best one outside of the album. it has a double meaning, two stories, that work well together and apart.
the first one is a sex change. from this point of view, the song is about a person (most likely a woman) who wants to have a sex change. it is obvious that she is most likely a wreck, and emotionally confused "your life will be a never-ending circus of confusion"
the reference to cutting her clock in the first stanza might be a reference to the biological clock associated with women, but that is my own interpretation.
"the boys'll murder for it" = penis
"it might be nice to look at - dont forget youre stuck with it tomorrow" - she has now gotten the change, admires the penis, but now she is stuck with her decision forever.
and how you'd love to have a little thing with which to play - pretty obvious
youll never hear the little pitter patter pitter patter
of this little feat of engineering - no longer be able to have kids
the girl falls into depression, starts cutting and so on

the second interpetation of this song is about how sex can change a person after the deed is done.
the song could be about an abortion. the ending of pittar patter bit. "but theres no money back once youve been ripped off."
the line "you will get what you are asking without the right connection." when i listen to the song, it sounds like protection instead of connection. this would follow the idea of abortion and unsafe sex.
the girl has now been exposed to the stigma. the neighbours talk, and she will be stuck with the whole episode for the rest of her life.
the song is a tragic song. the girl in the song is probably very young. there is almost a motherly voice in some of the parts of the song, talking to the child.
the brilliance is in how the song can tell two seperate stories in one way.
interpretation is there, depending how you see it.

"you'll show within a week or so" within a week signs will start showing.. you're boobs will be bigger, modd swings, vomiting, and especially the way your stomach looks.. This track (indeed a few of the new tracks) seem to involve pregnancy and abortion. I also take this as the interpretation by Madkai.... fits in with what i had seen it as......

But as with all dresden dolls songs, great, and truly open to interpretation.

it's amanda playing with double meaning again... part of it is about a sex change operation, part of it is about how sex changes people, part of it can be read as about an abortion or about cutting [or the "once you get a taste for it you'll keep on cutting" can refers to people who get strings of plastic surgeries... or who use abortions as birth control] or about bitterness at how lovers say "forever" and don't mean it... it all depends on what you bring to the song.

oh, and thebutcheress? the reason you can't find it on an album is that the album's not out yet. :) it streets this april.

It's the first track on "Yes, Virginia," release date April 18th.

My immediate interpretation was of a man undergoing a sex change (I think the line is "chop your cock off," could be wrong) and later regretting it. Maybe I've just been listening to Hedwig too much lately...

don't think this has much to do with actual sex changes, as the title suggests...although, someone previously made a comment about this being a double meaning. DEFINITELY a reference to unplanned pregnancy.

I just got the CD today and this is my fav. song on the whole CD. I see it as how Sex complicates a relationship, it talks about how the neighbors with view you, what happens when there is an accident and how the realationship between the boy and the girl are changed forever!!!
