Lyrics for Girl Anachronism as interpreted by okokayok

Girl Anachronism Lyrics
you can tell
from the scars on my arms
and cracks in my hips
and the dents in my car
and the blisters on my lips
that i'm not the carefullest of girls

you can tell
from the glass on the floor
and the strings that're breaking
and i keep on breaking more
and it looks like i am shaking
but it's just the temperature
and then again
if it were any colder i could disengage
if i were any older i could act my age
but i dont think that youd believe me
it's
not
the
way
i'm
meant
to
be
it's just the way the operation made me

and you can tell
from the state of my room
that they let me out too soon
and the pills that i ate
came a couple years too late
and ive got some issues to work through
there i go again
pretending to be you
make-believing
that i have a soul beneath the surface
trying to convince you
it was accidentally on purpose

i am not so serious
this passion is a plagiarism
i might join your century
but only on a rare occasion
i was taken out
before the labor pains set in and now
behold the world's worst accident
i am the girl anachronism

and you can tell
by the red in my eyes
and the bruises on my thighs
and the knots in my hair
and the bathtub full of flies
that i'm not right now at all
there i go again
pretending that i'll fall
don't call the doctors
cause they've seen it all before
they'll say just
let
her
crash
and
burn
she'll learn
the attention just encourages her

and you can tell
from the full-body cast
that i'm sorry that i asked
though you did everything you could
(like any decent person would)
but i might be catching so don't touch
you'll start believeing youre immune to gravity and stuff
don't get me wet
because the bandages will all come off

and you can tell
from the smoke at the stake
that the current state is critical
well it is the little things, for instance:
in the time it takes to break it she can make up ten excuses:
please excuse her for the day, its just the way the medication makes her...

i dont necessarily believe there is a cure for this
so i might join your century but only as a doubtful guest
i was too precarious removed as a caesarian
behold the worlds worst accident
I AM THE GIRL ANACHRONISM

What an insane song. The disorder in it is amazing, especially when offset by rare snippets of recognizable melody. This song is what really got me into The Dresden Dolls. I bet they're amazing live.

This song is fantastic, I love the way the piano seems to be violated in this song with the crazy chords, it's absolutely insane.

This song really grabbed me the first time I saw/heard it on Rage, which is rare for me ... great to see wildly NEW music, and from America (home of MOR - yeccch) no less!

In the beging you think your infor a calm piano song, but no it's like theater. You can feel every emotion in her tone, which no other artist does. It's a mini story in the song with so many inuendos. I really love the piano solo's in between each verse. My fav part in the video is the lyric "don't get me wet." When she likes him. MMM

and the things about to burst
that i'm not the carefullest of girls.."?

Firstly this NIKKIE chick comments on heaps of dresden dolls songs, and she is a complete idiot.
Secondly this song is awesome and i too have the
"you can tell
from the scars on my arms
and the stains on my skirt
and the dents in my car
and the things about to burst
that i'm not the carefullest of girls.."? version.
but yeah thats internet downloads for you.
Awesome song, amandas a fucking genius.

This reminds me of the System of a Down song "Sugar". Both about really fucked up people...and the the singers have so much emotion. You want to listen to the songs again and again to catch everything.

If the Dresden Dolls ever produced a musical... it'd be the most fucking brilliant thing ever.

This song is amazing. The music is just so frantic that you can practically see Amanda pounding away at the keys while singing it, and the emotion in her voice never sounds forced, despite the turmoil of the song -- it's good stuff, kids.

the first time i heard this song, i thought it was about a girl whos just a bit fcked up..nothing reli special in the lyrics (xept the music is amazing) but after looking up the definition of anachronism, i saw the song under a whole different light.

anachronism (n): The representation of someone as existing or something as happening in other than chronological, proper, or historical order.
One that is out of its proper or chronological order, especially a person or practice that belongs to an earlier time

so basically, its about a girl who was born in the wrong decade and doesn't fit in with the world around her now.

i luv this: don't call the doctors cause they've seen it all before, they'll say just let her crash and burn she'll learn...the attention just encourages her

I read an interview that stated that Amanda's mother instisted that Amanda be born a day earlier because she was superstitious of days with odd numbers. She had a c-section and Amanda has said that that is the reason for her "oddness". She has also said that this song is an inside joke with herself.
