So let's not even try, you're right, let's ball it up and throw it out the window
It's becoming all so clear in my mind
I've thought this through more like once or twice
I feel that this is my last request to you

Hold your breath
Bottle it up and save it for the next one
It's safe to say we've been riding this all night
None of this well ever change your mind
It's never safe to rely on borrowed time
Now we're both undone and it's time to open up your eyes

Consequence, it's our need in times like this
Feeling free is our modern disease
You're a classic disaster with a knack for losing your exterior
I'm so sick from staring at the mirror

This all needs a break from you
And I'm used to this

I fear that I am just an end
So you'll play the mistaken and I'll play the victim
In our screenplay of desire and I'm still writing
The letter I'll never send

Running in circles I can't forget how many times
I've played this in my mind

Feeling free, feeling free

Consequence, it's our need in times like this
Feeling free is our modern disease
You're a classic disaster with a knack for losing your exterior
I'm so sick from staring at the mirror

This is my panic, this is my call to arms

My Interpretation:She doesnt want this relationship anymore.
She doesnt try to be with him.
She just wants to "feel free."
"feeling free is our modern disease"
single girls like their friends to be single, they tell them its not fun being in a relationship.
these girls make feeling free a disease, becasue they infect girls in true love to do stupid things.
Its all coming together in his mind,
why she wasnt even trying in their relationship anymore even though it was beautiful.
He knew they could stay together "ive thought this things through more than once or tiwce"
He wants nothing but to assure her that they can be together,
but "none of this will ever change your mind"
She thinks it might be a mistake and he knows it is but she is still breaking up with him.
And he is a complete mess about it.
"you play the mistaken, and ill play the victim"
He cant bear to look at himself after all this, how could this be him?
"im so sick from staring at the mirror"
He tells her to realize what she is doing, she just destroyed everything beautiful they once had.
"Now were both undone, and its time to open up your eyes"
He continues to write to her, he doesnt know who to go to without her.
She's all he has and he cant belive its over.
"im still writing the letters ill never send"
He thinks she is so horrible for this,
"hold your breath, bottle it up and save it for the next one."
If she could do this to the guys she really loved, he knows someone will be next.
He will never say it but his "last request" is for her to realize she doesnt need to be free.
She just needs him. He can be her whole world, because he loves her more than anyone.

I know because it just happened to me.

General Comment:i think whitecrayon16 is right.
i've read an interview with them and they had said it was about an eating disorder.
and it really makes sense if you read it like that.
i think it's somebody talking to or about someone with an ED and realizing that they think differently than we do and he's not going to change her mind easily.
i have two very close friends that are dangerously annorexic and so i know how it feels to try and talk to them and get turned away. these lyrics describe it perfectly.

General Comment:I love the bit where he's screaming "This is my panic, this is my call to arms"

I think I'll have to go with the relationship idea. It seems he can't even be bothered to argue any more.

General Comment:In talking with the band I asked about this song because it's one of my favorites and this is what they said...

"Young and Aspiring is about dealing with an eating disorder, tons of people struggle with this every day and we wanted to write a song of support for them. The line "your a classic disaster with a knack for losing your exterior" tells all."

General Comment:this song took me the longest time to figure out, but i've got it.
this song is about a relationship. the writer is basically saying that he's messed up in this relationship and that he's trying to look good for this girl and be the best guy he can be for her, but is ignoring all his basic foundations and beliefs in pursuit of this one girl. now that that relationship is over, he has no one to go back to because he has abandoned everyone he loves for this one girl. "this is my panic, this is my call to arms" is just him freaking out and realizing that he's made a major mess of things and that he has to fix the relationships with his friends and family that he's destroyed for this girl.

General Comment:you probably downloaded a demo version, made before they recorded the whole album properly and added all the post production shizzle. Either way you choes an amazing song to download, the introduction to this makes me happy whenever i hear it. this is one of the most energetic sounding bands i've ever heard. every song is exciting and i'd really love to see them play live.

General Comment:Hey, I don't know why, but I downloaded this song off of LimeWire and it was a little faster, no distorted sounds before the guitar intro, and the screams were really clean-sounding, yet I bought the CD and before the guitar part there's a drum fill and the screams are a little darker. Why is that? Did I download a special version?

General Comment:first of all...the lyrics are wrong
    which does not surprise me

second of all...this is a great song...well produced and the vocals are mind blowing especially at "This is my panic, this is my call to arms"

third, the meaning of this song is...

two people are in a relationship...the relationship is not working out...and he knows this..."It's becoming all so clear in my mind I've thought this through more like once or twice." he wants to get out of the relationship...but she doesnt...as quoted here..."you'll play the mistaken and I'll play the victim"

"This is my panic, this is my call to arms"
this last quote is very important to my reasoning here...he is saying that they need help...and they need something such as "consequences" to wake them up
