So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
England seemed like such a beautiful place from afar
Until one day I went and saw how miserabely how things really are
All fantastic images they only are apparent
Propagated just by hope and desire to share it
Beauty was the allure that brought me close to you
Loneliness was the bond that made me stick like glue
All fantastic images they only are apparent
Promoted by desperate hope that things are somewhere better
I don't have a thing against fantasy
But to chase it down just don't make sense to me
If you're only hope is simply peace and love
You end up discarding most of what you're made of
All fantastic images they only are apparent
Promoted by desperate hope
And the need to share it
Until one day I went and saw how miserabely how things really are
All fantastic images they only are apparent
Propagated just by hope and desire to share it
Beauty was the allure that brought me close to you
Loneliness was the bond that made me stick like glue
All fantastic images they only are apparent
Promoted by desperate hope that things are somewhere better
I don't have a thing against fantasy
But to chase it down just don't make sense to me
If you're only hope is simply peace and love
You end up discarding most of what you're made of
All fantastic images they only are apparent
Promoted by desperate hope
And the need to share it

Just listening to these assholes makes me want to slit my own throat. GRATITUDE is the key but they don't seem to be able to find good in anything. Oh but they are so smart so they must have all the answers. This kind of shity doesn't surprise me from these atheist Darwinist losers.
I bet you're religious, aren't you?? And christian, to boot!! Love thy neighbor,Golden Rule, Let he who is without sin....I could go on about your behaviour being typical o f religious hypocrisy LMAO......
It's posted pretty much the same drivel on every BR song on this site. It's either a troll or an agenda driven religious person. Either way, it's not worthy of anyone's attention, and should be ignored.
"Religious hypocrisy"? What do you call atheistic arrogance and bigotry?? With a name like ReglionisFear you sound like a pompous ass. Perhaps you should be ignored for your prejudice. Just because you believe you are the center of your universe does not make you special. It makes you rather short-sighted. Believe in the possiblity of aliens? Probably. But apparently you're fine with believing you KNOW God does not exist. Ass.
