In times like these
And times like those
What will be will be
And so it goes

And it always goes
On and on and on and on and on
On and on and on and on and on it goes

And there's always been laughing, crying, birth, and dying
Boys and girls with hearts that take and give and break
And heal and grow and recreate and raise and nurture
But then hurt from time to times like these
And times like those
What will be will be
And so it goes

And there will always be stop and go and fast and slow
Action, reaction, sticks and stones and broken bones
Those for peace and those for war
And God bless these ones not those ones
But these ones made times like these
And times like those
What will be will be
And so it goes
And it always goes on and on
And on and on it goes

But somehow I know it won't be the same
Somehow I know it'll never be the same

General Comment:The lyric "so it goes" is also a reference to death, as famously used in Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse-Five."

General Comment:I interpret the song to be somewhat of a reminder that time goes on after bullshit. What we'll be we'll be...and so it goes.

General Comment:I heard this song's live version when he played it for the first time. He said "It's sort of about all the American flags on cars, and it's not a bad thing at all, but, It's just good to realize that God would want to bless everybody on Earth."

At the time I hadn't heard much of his stuff, so I was actually a little bit pleasantly surprised to find out that he believed in God.

This is a very nice song.

General Comment:when he said it was about the flags on cars he meant that everyone in America, especially after 9/11 has been a little bit selfish. It is understandable to want God to Bless America after something like that, but God has blessed America alot more than most countries around the world. Believe it or not there have been alot worse things that have happened. It is important to see everyone as an equal, their problems are as relevant as yours.

General Comment:it's an awesome song, but it's about war. from the mouth of jack johnson himself- he wrote it right after september 11 happened and everyone was saying god bless america and he wanted to write a god bless everything song. i think that's so cool. it's a love song and a song about people who need to just stop being so nationalistic. god doesn't like you better if you're american or french. life just keeps going and "there's always been laughing, crying, birth, and dying."
