Well I
Been thinkin' 'bout the future
Too young to pretend
It's such a waste
To always look behind you
You should be looking straight ahead

[Chorus]
Yeah
I'm gonna have to move on
Before we meet again
Yeah
It's hard
If you had of only seen

At ten thirty-four
Flinders street station
I'm looking down the tracks
A uniform man
Asking am I pee'd off
Why would I want to be that?

[Chorus]

Take control
And don't be afraid of me
'Cause every once in a while
I think about if ya gonna
Get yourself together
You should be happy just to be alive
And just because
You just don't feel like comin' home
Don't mean that you'll never arrive

[Chorus]

Take control
And don't be afraid of me.

My Interpretation:I was praying in a very difficult time and I was going through a 3 year relationship break up.

The 2 of us still love each other but we just couldn't be together right now (she thinks).

She said to me that she thinks we will be together again one day.

I couldn't stop thinking about her and I couldn't stop thinking about our history. I feared that I would never get over her and never be able to be in another relationship where I cared about someone that much. So I put all my hopes in us getting back together one day.

    Then this song came on

"Well I been thinking bout the future
But I'm too young to pretend
It's such a waste to always look behind you
    Should be lookin' straight ahead

Yeah, I'm gonna have to move on
    Before we meet again"

Basically I had been planning a way to be with her and worrying so much about our future and at the same time being stuck in the past with her.

This song basically answered my prayer.

Move on. Live for today, not yesterday nor tomorrow and you will meet her again.

here, i think he is saying, "ive been day dreaming about the future, but im to young to pretend that it will actually happen, i have to stop living in the past, and head towards my future."
    "10.34: Flinders Street Station
    I'm lookin' down the tracks
Uniformed man askin' am I paid up
Why would I wanna be that?"
he's saying that he's leaving his past behind, hence the train station metaphor, and he's looking for the train, before he changes his mind. the man who works at the train station asks him if he has payed for a two way train, and he wonders why he would do that, because it would just be another chance to run from his future.
"Cause every once in a while
You think about if your gonna get yourself together
You should be happy just to be alive
And just because you just don't feel like comin' home
Don't mean that you'll never arrive"
Here, i think he is saying that "sometimes you ask your sefl if your ever going to do anything with your life, you should just be happy your alive, whether you succeed or fail, and even though you're running away from home, eventually, you will find where you belong" thats my interpretation of the verses.

General Comment:OH i forgot to add.
Home May not be where you were born, lived and/or, grew up. But where you feel like you fit in and excepted for who you are... where you belong to be in the end.

General Comment:I don't think this song is about "two" people. I think this song is about internal conflict.

"Cause every once in a while
You think about if your gonna get yourself together
You should be happy just to be alive
And just because you just don't feel like comin' home
Don't mean that you'll never arrive"

Its more like he's singing this song into a mirror. Something hurt him and he's trying to convince himself to "move on" and get over it so he can face himself enjoy, his life and go home. He wants feel something other than what he's feeling now.

General Comment:The first 23 seconds of this song just might be the most incredible intro ever. Just hearing that makes me want to cry.

General Comment:This song, to me, sounds a lot like Pink Floyd. Specifically, "Wish You Were Here," in the way that it starts with a "radio-affected," country lick. Then the bright, beautiful, and thoughtful acoustic guitar comes in. I think this song is about not looking into the future or the past, but instead, putting all your thought, time, and effort into right now and living life. I'm pretty sure it's also about not letting others make your decisions or influence them. It's mainly about living life to its fullest. Some of the lyrics are in there, I think, because they sound good. :) Hope this helps you, blondechick917.

I'm going to take a stab at this one. After losing someone close to you such as a father, mother or brother, you start to wonder if you will ever get out of the rut.

Those times sometimes come with thoughts and questions to yourself of why you still feel horrible for your loss. You can see all the good things in your life, and you tell yourself that you should be happy to be alive, and to live this life to the fullest.

Maybe the last part is a metaphor for returning to how things used to be. For people who care about them not to worry because they're not the same, they will feel better and preserve the memory of their loss. That is just my take on it.

"Yeah I'm gonna have to move on
    Before we meet again
    Yeah it's hard
If you had have only seen"

Pretty self explanatory, basically a conscious thought that they're going to have to keep doing their thing until they can be together. But it's hard to move on because you start to think about all the life changing events that your loved one will never get to witness.

I guess that's just my own personal adaptation, but it makes sense to me.

    General Comment:One of Jet's best.
    love the line:

"Uniformed man askin' am I paid up
Why would I wanna be that?"

I also love the part where it picks up near the end:

"'Cause every once in a while..."

    General Comment:Fantastic song.

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to realise and accept that something has come to an end. You have to let go before you can look to the future and move on.

It's hard, but I'm sure it's for the best.
