This makes me think of a clingy child, for some reason. So afraid of being left alone that they fear even closing their eyes. But yes, the lullaby feel is nice =). I love singing it, too, very simplistic.

I think the last comments are slightly wrong. I think its about someone dying, and someone very close to them is trying to confort them.

As in like, when their saying goodnight sleep tight their actually saying go peacefully. And when they say goodnight and not goodbye their saying you'll never really leave.

There's something very eerie about this song . . . though soft and lullaby-like, there's an edge to it (one of my friends is actually scared of it). It makes me think of seducing someone to go to sleep with promises of love, even though they're really dying or something . . .

Maybe I'm just paranoid . . .

This song brought me to near tears when I listened...Even if the piano to it is annoying as all hell...But...Well, for me, it's telling someone very special that though they are not physically together, every day is a new opportunity and every day, they will be there.

...I think I'm the only person who gets the typical emo child feeling from this. Meh, could be cuz I don't really like Amy Lee and i think she's pathetic :P Any band that gets a singer purely based on her sex appeal should not be famous. Which is why I respect Nightwish so much more, Tarja is a fucking opera singer for god's sake.

And also I kinda sorta hate Evanescence because of what they did to Christian stores... They used Christianity to get their songs well-known and then once they were famous they went all "I'M NOT CHRISTIAN" ...I'm not Christian but I think that's just a revolting thing to do.

The whole Goodnight not goodbye thing is a very well-known phrase,,, And yeh, basically i think these lyrics are way too lame and weak. But it's beautiful song, hence the reason I'm commenting *smiles*

I love this song
I love it so much i taught myself how to play it on the piano lol

i think this song is about having a person's {in this instant let's just call that person Amy because she wrote the song} lover dying
Then when she says "in the morning i'll be here" she might be talking about killing herself so they can be reunited
Hence the "no more tears/dry your eyes" because she's gonna kill herself to reunited with him
Then the "we said goodnight/not goodbye" she will she will see him again so he doesn't have to be sad cause it's just goodnight and they'll be together again
idk this sounded better in my head...i still love the song tho lol
Evanescence is the best band ever!!

I love this song. :]
I favor it because I used to do this thing where I'd tell my mom goodnight, and if she'd ever say, "Bye" or something, I'd say: "No. Goodnight, not goodbye." because I used to have bad dreams where one of us would die or something.

Then I heard this, and I'm like, "Hey..." XD
Anyway, it's a beautiful song.

yeah it sounds like a new modern verson of lullaby
i like it , lol kinda sounds like a last song you would sing at the end of a nite at a concert makes ppl less sad that the concert is over but leave with a happy note knowing this isnt gud bye

- Exactly-vampirella666 I have no idea where you got that ides from- ever heard 'everybody's fool?' Amy is 100% against that sort of thing!


As for the song- beautiful! but not in the typical Evanescence way- it reminds me of a child crying at bedtime because he doesn't want his mother to go away, and she's telling the child that shes only leaving for a few hours, not forever.
