This captain goes down with the ship
All hands on deck, stand hip-to-hip
I shout the orders, "Shoot to kill!"
I'm dressed to thrill,
I'm dressed to thrill.

And all my enemies,
I want their eyes to see,
Their captain walk the plank
Destroy them, rank by rank.

Sail with me into the setting sun
The battle has been won, but war has just begun
And as we grow, emotion starts to die,
We need to find a way, just to keep our desire alive.

Now set the sail to quarter mast,
We'll jump the ship, we'll sink 'em fast.
Men follow me to victory,
Red as the sea,
Red as the sea.

And to the cannons roar,
Their bodies dance ashore,
A pirate's life for me,
I won't go quietly.

Sail with me into the setting sun
The battle has been won, but war has just begun
And as we float, emotion starts to die,
We need to find a way, just to keep our desires alive.

And to my damsel in distress,
You've made a mess of your new dress
You've made a mess of your new dress

Sail with me into the setting sun
The battle has been won, but war has just begun
And as we float, emotion starts to die,
We need to find a way, just to keep our desires alive.

Just to keep our desires alive.

General Comment:I think this song as about the trials of marriage...at least the chorus.

Sail with me into the setting sun
    The battle has been won
    But war has just begun

*Basically he says marry him..they got through the hard stuff but there will be more to come

    And as we float
    emotions start to die
we need to find a way
just to keep our desires alive

*Basically as they are along for the ride their love for one another is not as prominent as it once was. They need to find some sort of way to keep their love for one another alive...could also be talking about their sex life.

And to my damsel in distress,
You've made a mess of your new dress.
You've made a mess of your new dress.
    You've made a mess!

*more proof that the woman just got married in her new dress...

Not sure what the rest of the song is about though, but those parts sure seemed like it was about marriage.

General Comment:Nobody has posted a good meaning for this song, so I'll try and be the first.

This captain goes down with the ship
All hands on deck, stand hip-to-hip
I shout the orders, "Shoot to kill!"
    I'm dressed to thrill,
    I'm dressed to thrill.

This is obviously about his enemies captain walking the plank, or just symbolizing how all his enemies, he wished he could destroy in the same fashion, and he feels compelled to compete against them being "dressed to thrill", it seems like theres a competition for this girl, and the only way he can win, is to get rid of them, and try to impress her.

    And all my enemies,
I want their eyes to see,
    Their captain walk the plank
    Destroy them, rank by rank.

Yest again, he wants to see all of his enemies witness themselves falling and failing, he wants them to be aware that he's winning and that's he's winning the war.

Sail with me into the setting sun
The battle has been won, but war has just begun
And as we grow, emotion starts to die,
We need to find a way, just to keep our desire alive.

This is obviously where the girl comes into the song, he wants to be free with her, and escape away from everyone else that wants her. "Sail with me into the setting sun". And "keeping there desire alive", is a way for them to keep each other satisfied so she doesn't lose interest and find someone else

Pretty much it, i cant be bothered to address the whole song, but i think ive covered most. :D

General Comment:anybody else notice how many different people say "o he said it was (blah blah) at a show i went to"?
anybody think that maybe he is just trying to find a more clever way to introduce the song-such as with the "this song is about women who can't hold their drink" intro?

    People is dumb.

General Comment:i believe that this is discussing a past relationship.

the captain goes down with the ship just like he did with a failed relationship.
the relationship went down hill and so did he. (maybe his lifestyle or behavior?)

    just a thought.

General Comment:its sooo got something to do with Pirates of the Carribean, even if its something stupidy vague like they were watching it at the same time.
reference to pirates, and burning rum.
and in the film, Elizabeth gets a new dress, hence "And to my damsel in distress,
You've made a mess of your new dress"
titanic my arse. no pirates in titanic!!

General Comment:Actually, it IS about a pizza. Your explanation can't explain why there was a mess on her dress, why the sea turned red, or why Buddy TOLD me that it was about a pizza. Are you calling Buddy a liar? Buddy has never lied in his life.

As you can see, my explanation HAS to be the only one that is right.

General Comment:You people are ridiculous. This song is about winning the battle of beginning a relationship. The pirate [singer] is telling his beloved to "sail with him into the setting sun" The battle? Beginning the relationship - & it's been won.. The war? The rest of the relationship that two significant others have to work to keep their desires & love they have for eachother alive in the long run- hoping that the emotional spark that was first between them will never die out.

"Sail with me into the setting sun
The battle has been won, but war has just begun
And as we float, emotion starts to die,
We need to find a way, just to keep our desires alive."

& his beloved.. " the damsel in distress" who's made a mess of her dress is just metaphorical for the fact that they have to battle together to keep their love alive.

There's much more to be said about it but that's the gist .. no Pirate of the Caribbean .. no pizzas [even though that's the closest intellectual breakdown of the metaphor I've seen.. disregarding the Italian cuisine.]

General Comment:This song is about the fact that every guy is a pirate and we're just sailing around hunting for that booty.
