On another day, c'mon c'mon
With these ropes tied tight, can we do no wrong
Now we grieve 'cause now it's gone
Things were good when we were young

When my teeth bite down, I can see the blood
Of a thousand men who have come and gone
Now we grieve 'cause now it's gone
Things were good when we were young

Is it safe to say, c'mon c'mon
Was it right to leave, c'mon c'mon
Will I ever learn, c'mon c'mon
c'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon

As I make my way c'mon c'mon
Through these battered nights that seem too long
Now we grieve 'cause now it's gone
Things were good when we were young

When my teeth bite down, I can see the blood
Of a thousand men who have come and gone
Now we grieve 'cause now it's gone
Things were good when we were young

Is it safe to say, c'mon c'mon
Was it right to leave, c'mon c'mon
Will I never learn, c'mon c'mon
c'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon

Is it safe to say, c'mon c'mon
Was it right to leave, c'mon c'mon
Will I never learn, c'mon c'mon
c'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon

And now this day these deepened wounds
Don't heal so fast, can't hear me croon
Of a million lies that speak no truth
Of a time gone by that now is through

General Comment:This song is incredibly vicious if you really look at the lyrics and compare them to the context they were written out of.
like sailin-albion said, Jason's failed marriage.

General Comment:its about jason's, lead singers, failed marriage.

before he married in 2001 he chased this girl for 13 years. after 3 years of marriage he realised that it wasnt right so he divorced her. planely a bitter one just look at the lyrics

General Comment:Fred86, "croon" means to sing, sort of like a lullaby, but in a way harsher and more mocking, I think. Hmm. Sometimes it's hard to explain the emotions of words.

General Comment:What? Are we supposed to be ashamed to watch "Rescue Me"? :-P All I think of when I hear this song is firefighters.

I actually see how this was picked as the theme song to "Rescue Me" because you can easily read 9/11 into it. "Now we grieve cuz now it's gone/Things were good when we were young" and "A time gone by that now is through" recall the more innocent days, before "threat" and "terror" were commonplace words in the American vocabulary. I'm not trying to be political, but make sense of the song in a more specific context. It really does seem to fit that way.
