Sharp disaster in a fresh new coma.
Was it worth it when it was over?
Proving yourself right, you'd make the biggest noise.
Well, I'd lock my hands behind my head,
I'd cover my heart and hit the deck,
I'd brace myself for the impact if I were you.
It's a long wait for an answer. Is there any news? Is there any word?
Was there trauma? Or a struggle? Am I missing? Or was the body found?
Is there anything worth looking for?
Worth loving for? Worth lying for?
Is there anything worth waiting for?
Worth living for? Worth dying for?
I'm home
Was it worth it when it was over?
Proving yourself right, you'd make the biggest noise.
Well, I'd lock my hands behind my head,
I'd cover my heart and hit the deck,
I'd brace myself for the impact if I were you.
It's a long wait for an answer. Is there any news? Is there any word?
Was there trauma? Or a struggle? Am I missing? Or was the body found?
Is there anything worth looking for?
Worth loving for? Worth lying for?
Is there anything worth waiting for?
Worth living for? Worth dying for?
I'm home

* There has been a "sharp" or sudden "disaster" that has put him in a comatose state.
-Was it worth it when it was over
* He wonders if what had caused this disaster was worth it when it was over and was left with the consequences
- Proving yourself right
You'd make the biggest noise
* This reveals that the disaster is related to a person who was stubborn and most likely created the disaster in the first place, yelling to get a point across, taking extreme means to get what they wanted etc.
-Well I'd lock my hands behind my head
I'd cover my heart and hit the deck
I'd brace myself for the impact if I were you
* This seems to be in reference to going into the fetal position. He apparently thinks that this disaster will back fire on said person and states that if he was them he probably might not be so stubborn and would protect himself before he gets hurt.
-(It's a long way) is there anything
(For an answer) worth looking for
(Is there any news) worth loving for
(Is there any word) worth lying for
(Is there trauma) is there anything
(Or a struggle) worth waiting for
(Am I missing) worth living for
(Was the body found) worth dying for
* Here the chorus gets a little interesting. he goes back and forth kinda poetically. Each part in parenthesis has something to do with the parts outside directly after:
--(It's a long way) is there anything
(For an answer) worth looking for
These two parts go together with (It's a long way for an answer) and Is there anything worth looking for. I take this as It's a long way for an answer to what happens when we die so is there anything worth looking for in life to take up all that time?
-- (Is there any news) worth loving for
(Is there any word) worth lying for
Here he changes from his original phrasing in the parenthesis. I think it connects to the previous part here and is more related. He asks if there is any news, any word about what really happens then continues on. Is there any trauma? Are you shocked when you get there? Do you struggle? Is there pain awaiting you in Hell? He asks if he's going to be missing or will his body be found when he dies. So many unanswerable questions.
So then, Why love anything if they might not love you back? Why lie for someone when they might not even care? Why wait for someone when you might just die tomorrow living your life in waiting? And while we are at it, what's worth living for if we are just going to die in the end... and if there is nothing when we die then what is really worth dying for?
I feel he is questioning everything about life really.
****** Personally, i kinda believe that this is about him dying. Somebody killed him (the disaster) and he wonders if they thought it was worth it. As he is dying he sees his life flash before his eyes and wonders to himself if it was all worth it. Everything he'd done, everything he'd waited for, loved, lied about, looked for, and now finally it is someone he died for. I'm pretty sure the person who killed him was someone of importance in his life. Which makes sense as to why people would think this would be about a breakup. metaphorically relating dying to the end of your life ie end of your relationship/ life with that person. They broke up with you in effect pulling the trigger and killing you inside. But the high, light, happy tones at the end ringing "I'm home" really bring to light the meaning of the song. He's "Home". I believe that to be a reference toward being in heaven. He's died yes, but now that has set him free to go home, to heaven, where he belongs. He's happy now finally home.
(This "home" as heaven metaphor is also seen in "Almost Home" by Craig Morgan")
"Proving yourself right, you'd make the biggest noise" that line gives it away, he's talking about a fight, the person that insists that he/she is right, can't compromise, he/she is so sure about what he/she is saying. That person is the one that will get hurt the most, as in "the biggest noise when he/she falls" , when it's over.
Was it worth it when it was over
Proving yourself right
You'd make the biggest noise
Well I lock my hands behind my head
I'd cover my heart and hit the deck
I'd brace myself for the impact if I were you
i think this is the part of the song where he's talking to the person about how clumsy he or she has been and how he/she has finally hit that breaking point where he/she needs to stop being so damn risky or has finally lost his/her life from being so damn risky. i guess. then, the singer is saying he's preparing himself for the heartache and the pain that's following this person's mistakes.
the singer then asks these questions, is in anything in life worth putting the effort of doing something for when you're just going to lose it and get hurt in the end.
and when he asks, "am i missing" he's probably referring to how disoriented you feel when someone you love has hurt themselves.
and i think it might just be about a death. i'm not sure!
whatever, that's my interpretation! i love this song.
you know i came here to give an indepth analysis for the song but it looks like GoodGirlWithAWink beat me to it. y do soooooooooooo many ppl who listen to dc AUTOMATICALLY think of suicide. he is metaphorical in most cases relating death to be with out love. and in that sense it is true. Many ppl make their partner/lover/spouse their life and when they leave or gone its like they have lost their life. BUT BUT BUT many songs that ppl BELIEVE to be about Lost Love and Desire turn out to be about something different when questioning chris.
i have said this many times again Emo comes from Emotic (fictional word orginally developed from the Root "Emo" from emotions and the suffix "tic" which means roughly means "to cause" or "causing") deriving from Emotive which means "characterized by or pertaining to emotion" and/or "productive of or directed toward the emotions." In short, Emo songs do NOT HAVE TO be SUNG emotionally as long as the song can BRING TO SURFACE YOUR OWN EMOTIONS In this sense DC can be considered emo though Chris never rlly considered himself a lable. besides true "Emo's" as u like to call them detest the term "emo" and denie any connection to the label and only use it as a friendly tease (originally).
